Dom Thompson

Critchball is so ridiculously repetituve and drilled and metronomic that i find myself wanting DomThom in the team to provide the unexpected and the moments of madness. I thought his rugby tackle was fantastic. Its what football is all about surely. I dont want to watch 11 robots.

And enjoy it while it lasts cos Critch will coach it out of him as sure as night follows day! When did Hubby last get a red card? Speaking of whom, Critch will get him back on the straight and narrow too, I'm sure.

I still want to know what Husband was thinking away at Southend all those years ago.

I thought when he first started playing for us he was very good and could bring spark to a team that really needed it. The more the season went on he seemed to lose his confidence and that definitely affected his play. I thought he had and still has lots of potential and he should thrive now he is under a different manager. His runs down the wing were quite inspiring and he was good to watch. If he can recreate that style of play he will be a first choice player.

Got this review in the Gazette ..

"The wing-back made some key defensive contributions at the Valley, as well as playing his part in the build-up to Jordan Rhodes’ goal."

For those who went have we a contender?

I'm one of Thompsons few fans I think. I love his enthusiasm and energy has a good cross on him and fast. Yes he makes mistakes but hopefully he will grow out of these. I'd rather he on the left than Connolly.
Take away the one horrendous pass per game that results in an opposition goal and you might have something.

Confidence ! Some players need it more than others ( and I have no idea whether DT is one of those or not ) but ..the sledging some players get on here is appalling. One slip .." get rid " ..missed shot " drop em " Frankly it's juvenile and does any player no damn good whatsoever. He got far more than his fair share last season, ...it will be someone elses turn soon. Thankfully it's usually the same names that are always shouting for heads 🤣🤷🤦...so easy to identify. ( and ignore ) 🧡

Husband has started the season really well left of back 3 . Thompson could be decent in left wing back role. Gabriel and Lyon’s will be perfect on right wing back. New forward to play when fit. Said that cos I can’t remember his name. Virtue, Dougall, Norburn in midfield. I have been frustrated by start , but we should and will get better. Fingers crossed.

CJ has been an absolute revelation as a wing back this season, consistent, up there for man of the match again on Saturday apart from Hubby pipping him again. It will be really difficult to drop him once Gabriel and Lyons are back. I like Thommo, he is a wing back and it suits him, he played several lovely passes along the wing on Saturday and it was no surprise we conceded when he went off and Connolly came on to replace him in a position he just shouldn't be anywhere near.

CJ has to play for me so how Critchley is going to work it out I have no idea.

I rate him and enjoy his playing style and truly believe he is a confidence player.

Was it the Burnley 3-3 or the Shef U game that he had a poor decision go against him from what I can recall ref gave a goal kick and it should of been a corner to us and he lost his head and got sent off. Anyway I felt he was never the same after that.

A run of good performances and I think we have a real asset on our hands.

He will become a good player when he calms down a bit, also if we lose CJ at the end of this season he definitely has the potential to become next season's scapegoat.

Ive always liked him and stick that he has got in the past has been ridiculously over the top. Yeh he is rash and has a mistake in him but you can see there is a decent player in there. Playing a system with wing backs he should be absolutely nailed on to play on the left with there being no Lyons available.
It will be a tough call once Lyons and Gabriel are back as both of them are more natural wing backs and would suit the system i think a lot better although it will be hard to leave out CJ who whilst erratic does offer a lot going forward with his pace. Im thinking Gabriel may play on the right of the 3 but who knows.

The lad played well on Saturday, up there with CJ, Husband and Rhodes as the best performers.

He came into the side and slotted in comfortably.

He isn't your run of the mill no nonsense defender, he has got a bit of flare and unpredictability about him and can be exciting on the ball, he played a great through ball that led to our opener. The flip side is he needs to play alongside a good talker because he is not disciplined and we saw a few times on saturday him getting dragged out of position.

A solid 7.5/10
