Dougall suspended for Saturday

5 bookings . So who will replace him , Connolly, if he is fit , will be at right back . So an opportunity for Liam Bridcutt ?
 
The only reason he is taking set plays is that the manager is making him do it, probably based on how the players perform in training.
As Dougall is one of the better headers in the team, it seems a waste. Normally a team would have its wide players taking corners,
but our wide players are poor at crossing the ball, if you look at the recent teams, Laverty, Yates, Corbeanu, and Poveda none of them have the
passing of a Charlie Adam. There is only Patino that looks like he has the potential to take corners, and maybe we should try him against Watford.

Last night we have 12 corners, and we had efforts at goal with 3 of them with most of the chances falling to Connolley. Statistically, corners are poor ways to score goals with less than 1.5% direct from the corner, and 5% indirect. I think we have as fans unrealistic expectations of corners
based on Charlie Adam's performance against United when we scored two goals from them, the reality is that we have only had one player with that passing ability in 50 years at the club.

Would replace him with Carey on Saturday and bring Bridcutt on later to manage the midfield when legs are tiring.

This hits the nail on the head for me. Dougall didn't win "take set pieces" in the club raffle. They practice and he's currently the best for the job.

He put some duffers in last night no doubt, and I agreed with Steve Thompsons assessment that his delivery can be hit and miss, but he also put a few good balls in; one free kick on Gaz Madine's head first half which he powered back across the box springs to mind and two corners second half where he put it in exactly the right place to attack, but nothing came of it.

Agree in a way - though I am certain we will miss Kenny. Aside form set play delivery, which clearly should be placed with a different player, he contributed well last night. The other two lads would have been rolled over without him. All in all a bit like the Madine syndrome.
 
Connolly or Bridcutt, anyone else and we will be very weak defensively in midfield putting more pressure on our already wobbly defence

Surely he has to be replaced with a tackler, so it's Bridcutt for me. Carey cannot tackle!

I'm sure apples said Bridcutt is not match fit. We might get 60 mins out of him or alternatively Carey with Bridcutt still building up his fitness.
 
At least two of Doug's yellows have been ridiculous can't say the one he got yesterday was justified considering the "tackles" the ref let go without even awarding a freekick
 
It’ll have to be Bridcutt for however long he can last. After that we’ve got no DM or anybody who could fill in actually fit. Maybe Lavery could do half an hour or so otherwise it’ll have to be Carey. Unless Anderson is ready or Hubby, Stewart perhaps with a Zimmer frame.
 
In gazette today only husband looks likely to return from injury before the World Cup 😩😩😩😩
I’d be looking at cancelling Stewart’s contract in January if that’s possible

Maybe try to shoe-horn one of the LB's in at RB in place of Connolly, for the last half an hour or so, with CC moving into DM, alternatively give Moore a chance?

Not signing a proper backup RB really was a big mistake.

I would give Moore a chance as Connolly would give us an extra defender on the park.

What about Fiorini ? Original estimate was six weeks from memory and that was two weeks ago.
 
Just read article. Wonder if we have the option of cancelling Fiorinis loan and replacing him with someone else ? We shouldn’t have to carry injured loans not long-term at least or it eliminates the point of having a loanee in.

Williams too maybe if it comes to that.

Can't do anything until January now, and I imagine the club would want to keep Fiorini for the second half of the season.

I can see Williams going back in January, with one of Casey/Tharme being recalled.

Patino is not a screen player at all. It must be a tactical thing - maybe he gets more space to build from the back there or ping long passes?

Maybe Kenny further forward although less creative, can win tackles in a more advantageous area? I just don’t like it regardless- Charlie can tackle or protect our centre backs. Kenny can’t pass or create chances for our forward players.

It's so we press higher up the pitch and start attacks from further forward, in theory.
 
Tie his legs together with a loose rope ,maybe then he might find the penalty spot instead of keep giving the opposition a throw in 😜.

Patino likely to pick the ball up and kick it in the right direction, which is a start.

I thought he would be just about ready before the break, but unlikely to feature until after.

It worked well on Tues evening. It puts Patino in a quarterback type role and allows him a little more time to pick the right pass. It was a big plus in our improved second half performance.
 
Shame it wasn’t a red for violent conduct. He’s been shocking this season. His set pieces are SHAMBOLIC

Depends what you mean by shambolic? As, to me, it seems the idea of a floaty ball for every set piece must come from the management or they'd have stopped it months ago. I think Dougall does what he is capable of and in terms of directness and accuracy, I'd be giving Connolly the set pieces.
