Well, we were 6th in October last year and finished 15th. I'd certainly take the other way around this year.

I generally agree with that, but there's always one team that bucks the trend over the years. Look at Blackpool's promotions since playoffs came into the reckoning, and for most of them we were nowhere near contention after ten matches, mainly due to not having a prepared team when seasons start.
