EFL Trophy (LDV Vans)

The club posted on their facebook today that they will be showing the highlights tonight of our 2004 EFL Trophy win (when it was sponsored by LDV Vans). Which prompted a thought in my mind of how the fact that we are remaining in League One next season means we will be competing in the EFL Trophy again.

What are you thoughts on this competition? Do you hold the opinion we should try our best to win it, or ignore it completely, put the kids out and concentrate on promotion.

I am of the opinion that we should give it a good go. Realistically it's our only chance of winning sliverware (even if it is a minor competition) and could turn the heads of many of the younger generation who may have lost interest in Blackpool due to the boycott years.

Seeing how disinterested some of our senior players were away at Carlisle this season I would bomb off the competition.
Although it was Grayson in charge, so perhaps the feel bad factor in the changing room had spilled onto the pitch that night.
( so much so, not even Da Fonz clapped the travelling support that night ).

On the whole, the competition only matters if you get to the final.....and win

Pointless competition if you’re aiming to get out of league one like we should be

I always liked the competition and felt it was an opportunity to give fringe players a game.
If next season is curtailed however it should be the first thing for the chop.

I have never really understood the contempt for this competition. It’s a separate competition among clubs at our level which we have a chance of winning and a day out to Wembley to win silverware with a decent cash injection for the club. Its the only chance of silverware we have yet a lot of people hate it.

I went to the Southend one and thoroughly enjoyed it-great game and well supported by both clubs. The competition is worthwhile but all the better ones have instant knock out, which should be the case after the first round group.

I went to the home games and paid I-follow for Carlisle game have no issue with the competition but needs tweaking.
Eight games to get to the final is a couple too many and I'd start it before the season starts, try and make it as local as possible in the early rounds and why not have the Final in the October holidays rather than having to wait till March.

Couple of nice comments from the players who replied to it on Facebook

Matty Blinkhorn: First medal 🥇 with my hometown club ⚽️ Great day
Ciaran Donnelly (on Blinkhorn) Commentator obviously doesn’t know you very well as he just said you were ‘intelligent’.....I’m not having that!!!
Danny Coid: Memories ( of hair 😳☺️)

It's been ruined by adding the under 21 sides of category A academies IMO.

Got to say I agree somewhat with that. Bringing the U21s in has tarnished it somewhat, but it would take one of them winning it to completely ruin it for me personally, and they usually get no way near (closest was Chelsea getting to the semi final where they were beat 3 - 0).

Also if you draw an U21 side in the knockout stages away you play them at their home stadium, a trip to Old Trafford and the like wouldn't be too shabby even if it was against their U21s.

Bit of added incentive I just read on wikipedia. If we were to win the competition again, we would become joint highest winners of the competition (3 wins) with Bristol City

I had some of my favourite BFC memories at LDV games. Bully's Golden Goal, the 5-2 win at Oldham, the 2-0 win against the Wendies in the semi final and we had a couple of cracking days in Cardiff. However when we got promoted to the Championship, my first thought was 'thank God we don't need to be in that cup anymore'. Wouldn't be sad to see it go.

Over 50,000 tickets have been sold for the final and I get the feeling they won’t want to refund them all and so I’d have thought they’ll try and play it next season as I doubt they’ll have the competition next season?

Fact? Not yet

Weird thread bump btw...

And Wiz is replying to a 4 year old post that almost still works for this season...

Didn't go to any of the games this season and would've been 50/50 about going to the final. Just feels like we've been there, won the trophy, worn the shirt and without getting big headed about it, we feel bigger than that trophy these days.
Always said should be a pre-season trophy for the group stages to ease the pressure on the season.
