tbf he was gash last season aswellHe’s an excellent defender if played to his strengths.
Now devoid of confidence due to be tasked to be a ball playing centre half which ever supporter knows he’s not.
same as Lyon’sHe’s an excellent defender if played to his strengths.

One of the most basic requirements of a 3-5-2 is that you have wing backs that suit the role. Of today's starting X1 there was nobody who you'd say is a 'natural' wing back.He was good when Keogh played alongside him. He was OK last season when he was playing in a back 4. Don't forget he's scored goals for us as well.
The back 3 system exposes his frailties, and he just shouldn't be played there again.
Our very average opponents have sussed out the weaknesses (and it's obvious to all of us), and if our defenders are pressed they panic.
Ditch this stupid 3-5-2. How come with 5 in the middle, we fail to do anything with the ball?
I really don't get why Pennington wasn't played today - thought that was an obvious change.Pennington should have been in for today. Shame we sign players and dont use them
But he also goes to ground too early and commits fouls when not needed. Sheff U away; he lost us 2pts and was the last decent performance of an Appleton team but felt like a defeat to every player left on the pitch. He's good at what he's good at. Which is being a defender who heads, tackles and blocks. Consistently asking him to do things he's not good at will consistently end up with him not doing things well. It's really not hard to work out.
I feel sorry for Marv, this system leaves him exposed, but Critchley can’t see it. Unless he changes the system he needs to bring in Pennington. I don’t see why he won’t play the players he’s bought. I imagine he’s already pissed off Pennington and WeirI really don't get why Pennington wasn't played today - thought that was an obvious change.
I would agree with that. My grandmother could dribble better than that, go bless her. He's good at what he's good at. Which is being a defender who heads, tackles and blocks. Agree with the second statement, but recently he has made some stupid elementary mistakes which are costing the team dearly. Sorry but he needs dropping. He’s an excellent defender if played to his strengths.

Sure. But do we have any players who are perfect at what their job is? Being pedantic, I could point out that as an attacker, Messi isn't great in the air...But he also goes to ground too early and commits fouls when not needed. Sheff U away; he lost us 2pts and was the last decent performance of an Appleton team but felt like a defeat to every player left on the pitch.
When it's the manager who has picked him, and stubbornly continues to pick him, does that not make him culpable for the unfolding horror show that Marv's displays have now become?I'll have to remember when a player is having an awful game it's the manager's fault
That’s not the reason he dived in like a school kid. What was the excuse last season then. ????He’s an excellent defender if played to his strengths.
Now devoid of confidence due to be tasked to be a ball playing centre half which ever supporter knows he’s not.
You are right to some extent ,but I believe that I could do a better job of distribution then Marv .He is suppose to be a professional and should do better. He’s an excellent defender if played to his strengths.
Now devoid of confidence due to be tasked to be a ball playing centre half which ever supporter knows he’s not.
to say he's never been excellent is just pure nonsense. He’s never been excellent, and he shouldn’t be in the team either when you have a better all round defender than him on the bench.
If he starts the next league game against Wigan I’d be astounded to be honest, don’t like criticising our players but he’s a liability.
Being paired with Rhys Williams was the reason he played shit last season apparently. That’s not the reason he dived in like a school kid. What was the excuse last season then. ????
He looked like a good defender when giving away the pen yesterday, to be fair. He's good at what he's good at. Which is being a defender who heads, tackles and blocks. Consistently asking him to do things he's not good at will consistently end up with him not doing things well. It's really not hard to work out.
Haarland looked a good striker when missing the pen today, to be fair.He looked like a good defender when giving away the pen yesterday, to be fair.
Yet Ekpiteta won the Player of the Season under Critchley's watch?Epo needs a competent RB next to him. He sendings off last season were down to him covering that side more than he should need to.
NC's selections make other players worse than they would normally be.
Who was the RB?Yet Ekpiteta won the Player of the Season under Critchley's watch?
What difference does that make?Who was the RB?
Answer the bloody questionWhat difference does that make?
You said that "NC's selections make other players worse than they would normally be."
The fact of the matter is (based on recent history) that the overwhelming majority of our players have performed better under Critchley than anyone else.
I dunno… who was the Right Back?Answer the bloody question
Haaland rarely misses. Ekpiteta did the exact same last season, twice.Haarland looked a good striker when missing the pen today, to be fair.
So things only count when they suit your narrative. Got it.Haaland rarely misses. Ekpiteta did the exact same last season, twice.
No - I’m simply stating that Ekpiteta is an erratic defender who is a walking mistake. So things only count when they suit your narrative. Got it.
