The Sunderland fans seem to think this guy is a ‘key’ player for us and some would have loved to recall him for the playoffs.

I’m not exactly sure what gives them this idea.
He is a decent player for us and has done exactly what we brought him in for, but without downplaying his ability too much, am I alone in thinking our own players are better?

I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if he didn’t play for us again to be honest. I’m happy for the Mackems to carry on thinking he is a key player because that just tells me they have no idea how good our squad actually is.

Doesn't score enough or look like scoring for my liking.

Links up okay well, but as said above in his day Kai Kai does that and also chips in with a few goals

He has been a decent enough signing though and fits into the team well

yep agree with a lot of the above. He's ok but he doesn't stand out. Don't think he'll ever be the player that makes a difference.

IMO he has great work rate, movement and his positioning is pretty good too. Carries the ball well and has confidence. He needs to work on his final ball, be it a pass or shot; both can be really frustrating. But he's young enough and has enough talent I think to go on to be a really good player. Been a useful squad player, particularly with our injuries. I wouldnt be disappointed if we signed him, dunno if that's likely or not.

Thought he had a decent game yesterday but do not believe you could call him "key player" when compared with players such as Maxwell, Ballard, Dougall and Yates. In my opinion he does not offer more than Kaikai and Anderson. Yes on his day he adds creativity but the problem has been consistency.

Can very good and very bad, often within the same move. I think Ward is better on the right, Kaikai better on the left but he is a good fit when playing one 'in the hole' behind the strikers. Didn't let anyone down last night though and good delivery for the first.

Nooo we look very poor with Ward on the right. Embleton links up the play far better than what people are giving him credit for. He's not someone who sits waiting for the ball. Ward is a central midfielder who can fill in.

His shooting is woeful, whenever he pulls the trigger I have zero expectation he will score, yesterdays scuffed effort with the goal begging is the latest in a long list of examples .... Simms on the other hand 🤩

Wish he’d take all set pieces with his right foot. That delivery was spectacular. His left footed corners are too lofted for me.

He’s been a good addition and stayed fit for all his time with us which has been a massive bonus especially during those times where the squad was thread bare.

We won at Charlton, Portsmouth and Oxford with Ward on the right so we couldn't have been that bad. I just think it gives more scope to play out of defence and Ward is quicker and better in the final third than Embleton. But it wouldn't bother me if Embleton started the remaining games.

Yeah we did but can't say we looked great, I think we have a better balance about us now with Embleton being able to go and move around more. I would be happy for Ward to start there, poor wasn't the word. Maybe not as efficient or flexible.

Kaikai is a confidence player and he suffers from a lack of it too often, for me. Great on his day, not enough days. Keshi is a strong physical player, Embo has better technique. Embo is not the finished article but he's a talented player and he's improving with regular games. There's not really a lot between the three of them, but KK is injured and he takes a few games to get going after an injury, and Keshi had a pretty quiet game last night, more so than Embo I thought. The three are similar but also distinctly different.

Dont rate him at all.
Watched his passing closely last night & involvement.
Passed to yellow shirts more than white last night.
We have far better & more consistent players in Mitchell, Keshi & kai kai. Cant understand why he starts!
Bench at best 4 me.
If we get to Wembley hope its Sunderland so he cant start?

He`s nothing special although his delivery for our first last night was above his normal standard.

The two loanees who are making a big difference and we will miss greatly when they are gone are Ballard and Sims.

He reminds me of GTF in his movement and vision. He's not the same physical presence but he floats around the same sort of areas, trying to find a way through the defence, trying things that don't always come off. I wasn't aware he was getting stick on here but it doesn't surprise me. If some had their way we'd put 11 solid, dependable types out there every week and moan that we weren't creating anything.

He's only just turned 22..four or five years younger than Keshi, Kaikai or Ward so it's still about potential.
His link play is good and he gives us a beefy presence in midfield. I also think he will add goals to his game as he develops.
NC obviously rates him and that's good enough for me. If we did go up he may well want to keep him.

I think he's a good player still learning, still a bit too inconsistent but he has great vision and can play some killer passes. He does try more unconventional things that are ok on the training ground but not ok in a match, but that decision making is honed over time. The ability to make those things come off has to be there in the first place though and he looks to have it.

If we need pace and consistency I go with Ward. If we can can risk him having an off game for the chance of him unpicking a difficult opponent I go with Embleton.

Sometimes in football the good ball is intercepted or read by the opposition, anyone can pass the ball to a team mate or mis place a pass, but playing the ball in the right area for someone to put the ball in the back of the net or a chance to score is the key.

I think both him and Ethan Robson need a full pre season and a settled place in the squad and both will improve. Both young lads who were never given a chance at Sunderland, both were played out of position (ROBSON IS A DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER) or picked up injuries at key times. Critch has been watching these kids play since they were bairns and knows what they're capable of.

Critchley seems to rate him otherwise he wouldnt play him,and sunderland fans are wrong as i am sure they couldnt recall him as he was on loan till end of playoffs,i am sure that is what was said a couple of weeks ago
