Elon Musk

So what is he all about then ?

And is his taking over of Twitter a good thing ?

I know not a lot about him to be honest, so all info will be sponged up by me and considered.

He’s quite clever I hear
I definitely l don’t dispute that 👍

Just wondering what his motivations in life are maybe 💁‍♀️

He’s obviously an international ’influencer ‘ now and I know very little about him.

Is he left, right, or not politically engaged at all.
A so called narcissist or an altruistic type. We love labels don’t we 🫤

He seems to want to push humanity in the right direction. SpaceX and Telsa are examples of that.

Why he's taken over twitter... not sure tbh.

Edit: weirdly if you asked me to describe Elon Musk in 1 word it'd be "progress".

I think the lots of kids thing is a survival issue, protecting his genius long term and all that.
That would make sense...

Some people describe him as arrogant. But is it arrogance if you've got the ability to back it up? Isn't that just well founded confidence in your own ability?

I’ve just watched three episodes of The Elon Musk Show, he seems like a very complicated man, with passion and drive second to none . He is also diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome

Interesting. Aspergers and Autism can often lead to very straight forward thinking and speaking. And high functioning also highly intelligent.

I don't do social media (unless this site counts), but I heard in the news that he's allowed The Donald to use Twitter again. Hey presto, free international advertising as the Donald says how great EM is.

As Blood says he's a clever guy.

What sort of a Drive has he got?….is it one of those imprinted concert ones?…they’re quite nice

He's an arrogant obnoxious individual. Just because somebody's super rich and "clever" doesn't automatically admit them to the human race.

He'll come a cropper sooner or later.

I remember the song they used to sing on Spitting Image - " I've never met a nice South African"

Could easily apply to him.

I didn’t know he was a Tory. 🙄

Can see the headline now...

WORLDS RICHEST MAN COMES A CROPPER

Thinking on it... if he'd only come across her maybe he wouldn't have so many kids

I didn’t know he was a Tory. 🙄
Me neither, know little about the man factually and otherwise.

But feel he is going to be a big influencer going forward.

Even those of us who don’t use social media ( apart from here) will be affected by the effects his opinions have on society now. It reverberates whether we engage or not.

You've met him then?

At $44 billion, he may have bitten off more than he can chew this time.

But then I just don’t see the value in Twitter.
Wasn’t it Cameron who asked “Do too many tweets make a **” ?

He did. But the likes of you and me, probably, value value in a much different way than the value of what influences everything these days .

Poor little mega rich boy made even richer

He doesn't believe in rules applying to him. My impression of him was when he started trashing his company value contrary to Stock Market rules, and basically ignored the regulator. He can afford it, but many investors lost a lot.

Interesting about the Asperger's, lack of understanding of others needs. Makes huge sense.

Drive, great ideas man, great salesman (electric cars are nowhere near as green as he'd have you think). Twitter ? Hmm, allowing all the nut jobs and bigots to start broadcasting their hate again? Possibly charging everyone for using it, rather than paid by advertising? If he does that, it may fail as Twitter 2 is started by someone else as per the current model.

I remember when those kids were trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand he offered use of his prototype submarine. It wouldn’t work as it was too rigid but when his offer was declined he threw a wobbly and accused one of the British divers of being “a paedo”.

The impression I had was that he only made the offer to promote his own brand and his fragile ego couldn’t stand being rejected.

He’s also a “free speech absolutist” apparently. Yeah. Right. Try posting “Musk is a paedo” on Twitter and see how long it stays up.

I remember him saying that. He came across as a right **. As normal ordinary people though we can only judge on the snippets of a person's life that we see reported.
Be interested to see how many leave Twitter. I suspect not many.

I think Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter is good news for Simon Sadler's hedge fund though.

Segantii Capital Management owns 7.3M shares worth $273M as of June 2022, which I think he bought when the stock price was low

so probably made a very good return.

Some might say he is part of the elite who want to run the world . He might already be doing it given his wealth , at least having a big part in it

I didn’t know he was a Tory. 🙄
Neither did I, but they wouldn't have him anyway

But look at some of the other factual posts above, and think about him.

When he starts giving his money away like Warren Buffett, or Bill and Melinda Gates, then he might start redeeming himself

Let me know what it all goes tits up and he goes bust then.👍

How much money has this guy Musk got?
He bought twitter for $44 billion.
Is that just his spending money? 😜

Maybe we can get that new striker now?

Musk has borrowed most of it from the banks. Which, with rising interest rates is possibly one reason he tried to renege on the deal in April. But the courts insisted he go through with it. He has also had to sell quite a few billions of dollars in Tesla shares to fund buying Twitter.

Musk ís putting a brave face on it, but his possible anger at being forced to complete something against his will seems to be reflected in his sacking of most of the Twitter executives and his implied threat to make three-quarters of its staff redundant. He does come across as petulant and a control freak.

Watch the amazing documentary on BBC catch up. He and his brother left college with $100,000 student loan debt and he is now the richest man on the planet all due to his genius. Tesla is a great success story and wonderful for the planet and his idea of setting up life on Mars just in case a nutcase like Putin ensures life will continue.

“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” the tech mogul wrote.

Musk claimed he’s buying Twitter not “to make more money” but to “try to help humanity, whom I love.”

“Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!” Musk wrote. “In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.”

He added, “Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise.”

This is the real reason.
Hes not paid £44 billion in cash.
It will be a group deal made up of stocks, crypto sourced from 3rd parties. Hes the head of the deal. He brings a brand, a following.
Hes not buying land, property or actual assets ( aside office space). Hes buying the Twitter name, whatever they have invested their profits into ( hedge, crypto etc) and hes also buying a worldwide media outlet. Hes buying opinion, influence, rumour, gossip. He wont be using his own cash so I expect its a no lose situation.
Also even if he were to grow the Twitter brand just 1% thats a growth of £440 million.

No mention of the family Emerald mine?

I know you’re trying to be humorous, but free speech doesn’t extend to free lies. Why would anyone want to call someone a peadophile when it’s unfounded? He was an idiot saying that. But it’s a good example of what free speech isn’t.

Unfortunately social media is too often abused by those who can’t control themselves.

Thats why there needs to be moderators and rules, just as we see on AVFTT.

Musk is not going to lift any current Twitter bans until they’ve been reviewed by a standards panel. It would be wrong to arbitrarily lift all bans. Just as we wouldn’t let everyone out of a prison merely because we suspected there had been wrongful convictions.

He has said he doesn’t agree with lifetime bans. As you know, many folk have had their accounts deleted. They’ve effectively been cancelled. In an era when social media is so important it is not right that a platform such as Twitter can have so much power to silence dissenting voices. Lifetime bans may still be appropriate but they’ve been applied almost willy nilly based on political differences.

If you allow influential voices to be silenced by the few powerful moguls that own these sites we will end up with the opposite of free speech. Musk seems to be taking a more balanced and reasonable approach.

We need have platforms where all can freely express their views and have debates without fear or favour. The cancel culture has taken over and it’s gone too far. We need to restore balance, fairness, and impartiality from moderators.

“Free speech doesn’t extend to free lies”.

And yet the far right organisation Britain First is back on Twitter……. telling lies.

Sounds to me like he's fed up with Twitter moderating things like the overground people in The Demolition Man. Good luck to him.

How can he possibly be called 'The richest person on Earth' if he's borrowed most if it??
