A North East colleague of mine, Sunderland fan, says rumours circulating of a £1.5 million bid for Embleton from BFC.
Good pointIf Mr Critchley deems him worth a punt at £1.5m then who am I to question him ?
For once, I have to agree with you.Have to say that he didn't overly impress me. Scored one cracker, but generally gave the ball away too often. Didn't possess pace or stamina. £250k max for me but I think we could do better in the loan market.
Reduce that figure by about two thirds and another team paying it.Reduce that figure by about two thirds and it could be about right.
Not in the last year of a contract with no option to extend in Sunderland's favour. And when he's out of work at the end of next June if they don't agree new terms or if he turns them down. I wouldn't expect to keep my own job if I'm in charge of a football department and telling Simon Sadler that's how it is just pay it knowing those circumstances.Seems some still have lower league blinkers on . A Championship club buying an under contract player nowadays is going to have to stump up some serious dinero .
‘Including add-ons’ … so seven figures if they win the Champions League. Within two years.Sunderland make seven-figure offer for 21-y/o transfer target
Sunderland have made an offer in excess of £1m for Exeter City's Josh Key as they look to finalise a deal for the midfielder.footballleagueworld.co.uk
I can't say you're wrong Simonized. You know what you've seen and, no doubt, you're a seasoned fan of the game. However, I saw potential. I saw a player trying to break into narrow spaces up front of midfield, which unsettled defences. Often, not a lot came of those moves but I still think there's a good player in there who needs guidance but also the encouragement to keep making these off-the-cuff advances.I dare any of you who want to sign him to go on ifollow and pick two random games he started and watch him.
I have done it and he is more shockingly bad than I even thought before I did it.
If he hadn't scored that goal he would have been forgotten by just about everyone by now.
I can see there is a player in there but Championship I am not sure.I can't say you're wrong Simonized. You know what you've seen and, no doubt, you're a seasoned fan of the game. Go back and man watch him on follow and I swear you will change your mind.I can say Simonized is wrong. Embleton is a classy player with a good footballing brain and a hell of a lot of potential. Critchley, the England youth team selectors at several age groups, Sunderland and plenty of other football professionals who have got him to where he is today all likely agree with me too. I don’t think he’s a £1.5 million pound player (yet) but I think he’d be a steal for £500k.
Agree re. The £1.5m, that's silly money. Also, I'm partly convinced by the idea of him making a name at League 1 first. However, Critch is a good coach, Embers fitted our squad on and off the pitch and I might be OK with £300k as a bit of a punt. Obvs, it's not my money.I can see there is a player in there but Championship I am not sure.
He needs another season in the league below and with S/land I personally hope.
He needs to fill out and get consistent as one good game in a while won't cut it in this league.
S/land fans were quite please with his performance against York the other day.
1.5 mill is a definite no and £300,000 is too much to gamble I think having seen him play a lot.
I would question him but ultimately time would tell us if he was right and hopefully he would be.If Mr Critchley deems him worth a punt at £1.5m then who am I to question him ?
Beat me to it, thought he improved steadily in his time with us. Think some of the stuff he does goes under the radar, ie he did brilliantly in the build up to the second goal at Wembley. But no way his he a million pound footballer, at this stage of his career.Embleton improved continually through his loan spell, whilst I was less than convinced with his early performances he became far more effective in the latter games. Match fitness, confidence and understanding what is expected of him are probably all contributing factors. If Critchley sees a player who is good enough and can improve, it'll do for me but no way would I be spending north of £500K on him if I were Sadler.
