Embleton bid?

It’s less than a month’s salary to Harry Kane according to the latest rumours, hope that’s not true it’s too much to pay for him!

I'm pretty neutral on him really. If we get him for a bargain fee and he comes back then thats fine, I'm sure he may carry on improving but if not I actually think we can get much better. 1.5mill for him is however obscene and I'd be concerned if we paid that.

Not a chance we’d pay anything near £1.5m for him.

Sunderland might want £1.5m for him but there’s Bob Hope and no hope.

I doubt very much that your Sunderland mate has got that info from anywhere trustworthy.

I'd love to know where people get their valuations from. We're in 2021. It costs 25 quid to go into a match. I remember when it was £1.90. 1.5mil is probably the going rate for a promising young player at championship level. Critchley has worked with him, seen him up close. If he think's he's worth it, then we pay it. That's how it works.

I’d be very concerned if we were looking at paying anywhere near £1.5m for Embleton as I don’t want Mr Sadler to be wasting his money. £300k max for me but I’ll trust Mr Critchley’s judgement.

Seems some still have lower league blinkers on . A Championship club buying an under contract player nowadays is going to have to stump up some serious dinero .
Not in the last year of a contract with no option to extend in Sunderland's favour. And when he's out of work at the end of next June if they don't agree new terms or if he turns them down. I wouldn't expect to keep my own job if I'm in charge of a football department and telling Simon Sadler that's how it is just pay it knowing those circumstances.

For £1.5m I'd want Ellis Simms with Seamus Coleman thrown into the bargain when you compare that number to the rest of the transfers made so far. It's mainly been frees apart from whatever they've done with Kings Lynn for Sonny Carey. Which I'll be surprised if it tops 100k or so. And Olly Casey an agreement with Leeds on his development.

With good coaching I think he could develop into a good asset at championship level. I would not be against signing him.

But the only way we would ever pay a £1.5m transfer fee as a championship club is if we'd sold someone first for at least that amount. Not a chance otherwise. IF they're asking for that much and won't budge, we need to quickly move on.

I dare any of you who want to sign him to go on ifollow and pick two random games he started and watch him.
I have done it and he is more shockingly bad than I even thought before I did it.

If he hadn't scored that goal he would have been forgotten by just about everyone by now.

He frustrated me, and he could be the type of player that drifts in / out of games. Not at £1.5m, as I’d be asking why we didn’t keep Kaikai.

However, I do think in his very poor games, he was played wide, which didn’t suit him. Same can be said for Kaikai. Both need a bit of freedom to properly make an impact. I think he could do well in the Championship, where clever players can make use of the space.

I can't say you're wrong Simonized. You know what you've seen and, no doubt, you're a seasoned fan of the game. However, I saw potential. I saw a player trying to break into narrow spaces up front of midfield, which unsettled defences. Often, not a lot came of those moves but I still think there's a good player in there who needs guidance but also the encouragement to keep making these off-the-cuff advances.

I can say Simonized is wrong. Embleton is a classy player with a good footballing brain and a hell of a lot of potential. Critchley, the England youth team selectors at several age groups, Sunderland and plenty of other football professionals who have got him to where he is today all likely agree with me too. I don’t think he’s a £1.5 million pound player (yet) but I think he’d be a steal for £500k.

I would be shocked if we let Kaikai go then go and pay over the odds for Embleton.

I did like Embleton and he was instrumental in our turn of attacking fortunes from Burton Albion at home to the end of the season. A bit raw at times and his inconsistency is probably due to his inexperience, ultimately he would be a decent addition who has the potential to improve a great degree so a price tag of £1.5 million is genuinely ludicrous from Sunderland if true. A few hundred thousand at most I'd say in the current market is fair but anything teetering towards even half a million I'd say the Mackems are ticking the piss

I can see there is a player in there but Championship I am not sure.
He needs another season in the league below and with S/land I personally hope.
He needs to fill out and get consistent as one good game in a while won't cut it in this league.
S/land fans were quite please with his performance against York the other day.

1.5 mill is a definite no and £300,000 is too much to gamble I think having seen him play a lot.

Go back and man watch him on follow and I swear you will change your mind.

Agree re. The £1.5m, that's silly money. Also, I'm partly convinced by the idea of him making a name at League 1 first. However, Critch is a good coach, Embers fitted our squad on and off the pitch and I might be OK with £300k as a bit of a punt. Obvs, it's not my money.

I was a critic of Embleton but he started to grow on me a bit.
He's very definitely two-footed, which is a great attribute, and he's got a good engine on him. Neither of those attributes make him worth £1.5m of course.
Is he worth a punt? I think we have to trust Critch on that one.

Embleton improved continually through his loan spell, whilst I was less than convinced with his early performances he became far more effective in the latter games. Match fitness, confidence and understanding what is expected of him are probably all contributing factors. If Critchley sees a player who is good enough and can improve, it'll do for me but no way would I be spending north of £500K on him if I were Sadler.

Beat me to it, thought he improved steadily in his time with us. Think some of the stuff he does goes under the radar, ie he did brilliantly in the build up to the second goal at Wembley. But no way his he a million pound footballer, at this stage of his career.
