Embleton bid?

I thought Embleton made us tick for the final run in..We looked a completely different side when he came on at HT against Burton..He links up play well... However, I would not be paying £1.5m for a player (who has hardly featured for Sunderland) who has a year left on his contract.

I can see there is a player in there but Championship I am not sure.
He needs another season in the league below and with S/land I personally hope.
He needs to fill out and get consistent as one good game in a while won't cut it in this league.
S/land fans were quite please with his performance against York the other day.

1.5 mill is a definite no and £300,000 is too much to gamble I think having seen him play a lot.
He doesn't need to fill out at all. Just how closely have you been watching? 😉

Likely about 350k to get him I suspect, good but for me. In good pre season form.
That was my view. £250k cheeky bid. £400k paid too much
This is a whole new world of crap finance thanks to Covid so the freebie market is much more attractive.
Sunderland should bite our hands off getting any small fee.
If we move to 3-4-3 with wing backs, there’s no 10 position and you’d want pace as the 3 up top
I’m the 4-2-3-1 there’s a slot

Some Sunderland fans are saying why sell him if it's around 250k, may as well keep him in the squad, and there's some sense in that. I think Sunderland will only sell if it's worth their while and also if they can replace with someone they think is better. He's starting their pre season games and seems to be under serious consideration for a place in their side. Every player has a price. I suspect they won't sell for much less than 500. But 300 plus add ons might work. Sell on clauses make sense, sharing the profit from shared development.

Think they have bid a lot of money for an Exeter midfielder over 1 million gbp.
21year old Josh Key
There will be no place for Embleton if this comes off so we should tough it out.
Maybe we should look at Key?

I honestly see it differently. I agree with NewburyOne. He improved steadily and has obvious potential. He's not played many senior games yet but you can see his technique is good and both feet.
I would rather risk 300k on a bid for Gabrial as he looks more certain to step up than Embo.

"Embleton best player on the pitch so far. Not just because of his goal.

"Embo taking the piss here like.

"Embo has the quality.

I'd like to see him back here. I don't do social media (unless AVFTT counts), but my lad just told me that Sunderland fans are raving about him now, and how much they want to keep him.
Get the feeling we should be looking elsewhere, although we most likely are already.
The club just quietly go about their business these days, which I prefer personally.

Playing Harrogate in a friendly🙄
Their fans are going mad because of the lack of signings and they will go mental now if they let him go 😋
"First half analysis:
Embleton best player on the pitch by a distance, an exciting player on our hands if he stays."

"Embleton looks pretty strong like. Tacked on some muscle has the lad?

Been to the gym like i suggested then 🤪🤛

I'd love to know where people get their valuations from. We're in 2021. It costs 25 quid to go into a match. I remember when it was £1.90. 1.5mil is probably the going rate for a promising young player at championship level. Critchley has worked with him, seen him up close. If he think's he's worth it, then we pay it. That's how it works.
That's exactly not how it works because he's not worth anything like that.

"So can we say that Embleton has finally put to bed any doubts some of us may have had that he isn't good enough?
We can see from today why Critchley is so keen to sign him."

No chance now I reckon(i hope) as I have just skipped through 3 of their streamers thoughts and he was MOTM.
So unless we meet their valuation, so they can justify to their fans it was a good for them I think he will be staying.

But what of the man himself? He's a Mackem (I think), and would love to be a key man in their side. But, what's his ambition? With us he could be a key player in a Championship side. Higher clubs put a lot of faith in ambition. It depends where he sees his future.

It doesn't work like that and Sunderland aren't suddenly going to up the price more because he scored 2 goals in a friendly against Harrogate.

It's a business deal. If the clubs agree a price then he will come to us, if not he will stay where he is. He may want to stay at Sunderland and fight for a place in the side or he may want to come back to us and play in the championship so he will have a say in it too.

If it happens it happens. Gabriel is more likely and Embo is 50/50 I would say. Plenty of other midfield fish in the sea. the amount of players missing today is more worrying, not great for pre season match fitness, I hope Critch explains what's going on in the post match interview.

I think there's something in what you say Herts. However, anything involving motivated sports people and their futures cannot be completely about cold business. As per my post above, I'm interested in what Embleton thinks. He's had success with us and is a good fit on and off the pitch. Then again, his heart is on Wearside. It's a difficult one that goes beyond the accountant's pen.

Fulham just signed Harry Wilson from Liverpool for a reported £12m, that’s what we’re up against. We can’t match that kind of spending, but we do need some more quality if we’re going to compete in this league.

It's not spending we need to match. 11 v. 11 is what counts.

Have always said that the Championship even more than the Prem is the most 'have/have not' league in England.
Someone like Embleton will want Championship football - will hopefully put in a transfer request.

And it might get them promoted. There's more than one place up for grabs.
