EMBLETON SIGNS

"Only CM we have who tries to go forwards and we ship him out for league 2 Winchester."

"Bit gutted about this like, not convinced we have a better player to link midfield and attack through the middle."

"Don't really get the love in with Embleton tbf, had a few decent performances but never looked capable of nailing down a first team place."

"Slow & lightweight. Good technical player when he has the ball at his feet but just won't get games here"

"always had promise and very technically gifted, but because of injuries etc has never really had a proper run here. He has looked a bit lightweight when he’s played but definitely a good player in there somewhere, he just has never got going. He was just starting to get a bit of game time in recent matches so the timing is quite surprising."

"Seems an absolutely bizarre move this. Thought he looked bright when he came on against Ipswich and should have started against Gillingham. Things are already starting to feel very disappointing with regards to Johnson giving youth a genuine chance."

"Was one of our top prospects but lost a full year plus a bit more through injury. The club still rate him (hence the contract extension) but he really needs a good run of games to properly develop and with our aim being promotion at all costs we can’t guarantee he’ll get that over the next 3 months or so. Probably a good deal for all involved."

"Thought he was the best player on the pitch at the first half at Wimbledon and he looked lively when he came on at Ipswich."

"Disappointed. Good balance, good technique and can see and execute a pass."

"Think Embleton is more of a 10/advanced CM rather than a winger and doesn't really fit this shape we play."

I wanted to sign a player who could be Sunderland's best player. Instead we sign Embleton.
I didn't realise you were in charge of signing players . We'll not give you grief just yet, we'll see what he's like on the pitch first eh? :)

my thoughts to, he did ok at Grimsby at 18/19 years old, has he just been playing under 23s since? injured? good international pedigree, well worth a look till end of season.
It looks like he had about 14 months out from his twitter profile and got back to playing November this year...

It's a strange one getting a player on loan from a Club in the same division as you. That's at least 2 games he won't be able to feature in.
Sounds good on the label so I wish him all the best.
My sentiments exactly . In fact I used almost the exact same words as your goodly self

Aye, just checked.

Weird how they're trumpeting his contract extension as he signs for us.
Probably triggered it to make sure they get a bigger fee for him should he impress over the next few months here.

No doubt his age and being a cheap loan came into the equation. We seem to be a home for crocks!

I suspect we've strengthened an area we're weak in and they're not, whereas their weaknesses are in areas where we're strong. Sometimes it isn't as simple as saying if he was good he'd be playing for them.

Could have just brought Garrity back . Similar age, a regular for Oldham and an attacking midfielder, and also already our player . On the face of it this is a very odd, short term? signing. But what do we know?
Time will invariably tell.

Makes perfect sense for us, this has been a very good window and goes along way to rectify things.

It does however signal next year is the big push and D-Day for everyone at the club.

I’ve just said this to Voy on another thread but, If no one else comes in tonight that leaves is with a squad of 20 (next years limit), Simms and Embleton don’t count towards the squad cap. We’re getting our house in order for the summer. Both Simms and Embleton, will likely get us to summer with some respectability, probably 10-12th.

Both Simms and Embleton depart as do, all the boys out on loan, Sarkic, Madine, Kai Kai, Ward and probably Thorniley.

Summer will be a complete sea change in transfer policy from the ones before it. And we’ll sign only 4 top quality attacking options to complete a 20 man squad for a promotion push. Probably 2/3 strikers and a real left winger. Perhaps Bez or Mitchell go out on loan for the year.

Great window, good luck to Embleton.

We’re a well run club, being able to say that is just great.

Stop being sensible!

Sounds like he has just had a few really good games for them after a while out injured. Might be picking up a player coming into a bit of form.

Neil Critchley likes to blow his own trumpet about being one of the best judges of under 23 players in the country so lets hope he has seen something to work with. I could understand it if we were getting him with a view to signing him if he was out of contract but it does seem strange he has just penned a new contract.

You could argue Sunderland want to command a higher fee if he is in contract and he may not see eye to eye with the new gaffer. I guess he isnt costing much and is worth a punt but if he doesnt get game time I dont see the point. All the other new signings have been very good so we must give him a chance but on paper he is a bit underwhelming in comparison to Simms, Ballard and Stewart. One of the major disappointments this season has been the loan market and only Walker in nets and Ballard and Gabriel have brought any consistency and they all havent played that much. Compared to previous seasons we have loaned players of a lesser quality.

It’s not guessing ... he clearly isn’t wanted by a team pushing for promotion, who aren’t the most exciting side and it wasn’t a moan .. more of a question. Thanks though
You were asking why he can't get a kick but he has been playing. On their forum a lot of them are moaning about letting him go having brought in a player from League 2!

They say he'd play if Johnson hadn't brought McGeady back from the cold. That's a pretty impressive player to be stuck behind. Can't be many more skillful players in League 1. It could easily be like if Marv and Ballard are first choice someone moaning about signing the Viking. On paper, it looks shit, but he's actually really good.

Trying to be optimistic!

We're short of attacking midfielders and this guy can play left right or centre and has 2 good feet. He may not work out but I expect he'll get his chance to prove himself.

No point debating it till we see him play is there really? All it will do is generate into I told you so shite from either corner if he's good or bad.

That's a proper head on forwards post . Simms and Stewart came in under the radar as it were, All the dead wood has been pretty much shifted. That is to say pretty much all the ones people thought would go have gone. Then a last minute interesting/ curious signing at the death( Unless another one has been snuck in as the curtain fell)
So, as you quite rightly say, a good window with lots of positive activity with one eye firmly on the future .

Plenty of work to do in the summer with contract negotiations, loan players returning to their parent clubs, players still to move out and replacements to be brought in. It's going to be busy again.

We wanted an attacking midfielder who can pick a killer pass. If he stays fit, we could have a good player here. Believe we are more likely to sign him on a perm deal after he’s got used to being around the Club.

Posted a thread re woodburn a few weeks ago. We’ve replaced inexperienced midfielders with an inexperienced midfielder. Why not stick with Woodburn and Kemp? Hope to be proven wrong though. Obviously the people in the club know better than us, I was just hoping for someone who’s already established themselves at this level.
Woodburn was a very expensive inexperienced attacking midfielder and Kemp was recalled by West Ham to sell to Leyton Orient.

Another waste of a loan for me and nothing more than a squad player again what's the point of taking someone from a side in the same league to improve their player who has hardly played and has been on loan at a division below it makes no sense.

When you use the loan system they are supposed to start like KDH,Ronan & Moore did last year we should having been sniffing around youngsters from the divisions above we've ended up with someone again(Ballard the exception) who will be lucky to be on the bench.

Debbie and DJ weren't wanted by Swansea and Leicester...

Maybe wait for him to kick a ball for us before you judge him

It's a process. I make six of out squad who are good enough to play at championship level. You don't need 11 players of that quality to get promoted. No point spunking money in january if player x + y aren't available.
Don't forget we have plenty of posters that think we should have got it all right on Day 1 and then stuck with it.
