Embleton

I think it is telling that there have been no rumours that we have even gone in for him. Perhaps we are looking elsewhere or have other priorities?

I think it says that nothing is happening now because it's too soon, it will happen later in the window. If at all.

Ineffective on the right of a four man midfield.
He was though a key part of the shape of that team that got us up.
I think he needs the team formation to be right for him (probably 4-4-3 or 5-3-2 etc, not 4-4-2) and he is clearly an ‘impact’ player. He was often done for by the hour mark, but the thing I really liked about him was that he was effective from the start of games, so helping us to get on top.
A lot of impact players you have to wait until 60 to 70 minutes in for them to turn up.
Can he make it in the Championship ? I have no idea, but I probably feel that about most of this squad.
Happy for him to sign, but I wouldn’t pay a fortune for him.

Carey and Embleton, perhaps!
Embleton would be great to have in the squad, it just depends on how Sunderland valuate him, I can see them attempting to rinse us a bit for him. Carey is a Right Mid according to trasnfermrkt, it also might be too big of a leap from the National League to the Championship to come in as our creative no.10.

I personally think, to quote the ongoing thread about our signings, the no.10 role should be our "wow singing". I'm not saying break the bank but securing a solid Championship no.10 would be brilliant for us.

I wouldn't go off transfermarkt. It wouldn't be surprising if our attacking midfield options for the season are Anderson, Carey and Embleton. But the Embo thing is up in the air, depends on Sunderland. They are in a tricky situation with him, but they won't lose sleep over it. Selling him to us with a sell on clause might be the best outcome all round.

No mention of Embleton here and they have a pre-season game on Saturday and so one to look out for.

I expect he may join their training a couple of weeks later as his season with us finished 2 weeks later than Sunderland's due to the Play Off final.

Still find it odd that we didn't take up the option on Kaikai, played in the right areas of the pitch he had goals and assists in him. Arguably more end product than Embleton, definitely cheaper than getting Embleton and he wanted to stay.
Long way to go, hopefully it all makes sense when we lineup at Bristol City.

Embleton had more influence in the last 8 weeks of the season than kaikai had in the whole time he was here is my opinion.
And please don't tell me KK was played in the wrong position..that wont wash.

I think it's clear we are interested in Embo but aren't going to be held to ransome, he wasn't in Sunderland's plans in January and all the comments I've seen from them since feel like price hiking spiel. Let's see how this one plays out, I still suspect he will join us but only when the terms are right for us.

Critch sees the players every day in training. A lot of us have watched over 1000 football matches, but probably wouldn't notice half of what a top coach sees in training. I'm happy to let Critch judge if a player is good enough for our squad.

Not with you maybe, all opinions, kaikai goals and assists per minutes played much better.
Its not either or with me, ideal world I would like to have started the season with both of them, as it stands we have neither of them!

I think Embo is much the more likely of the two to develop and give us more next season, for sure. KK has had 2 years and not progressed, Embo is younger and just starting out and looked good in the play offs, and just more confident really.

I'm neither here nor there on Embers. Can't say i saw him as a better player than S-KK if I'm honest, so unless his fee and t&c's are in our favour in terms of a gamble, then I don't really see why we'd go chasing after him with any great purpose. If we did sign him, I'd be hoping he's providing an option to the squad rather being seen as a regular first team starter.

Can you really judge a player who has just turned 22 and has only appeared 18 times for us? What will he be like in a year or two's time? It's really about what Critch thinks based on what he's seen. Obviously.

Absolutely. But based on what we’ve seen so far, I’ve made my judgement call. Obviously it carries no relevance to the actual situation.

But if I compare Embleton to Yates, i see one player who has more spark and caused more problems to the opposition. So if I’ve got a budget to play with, I’d rather take the ‘gamble’ on spending more on Yates in a higher league, whereas I’d consider Embleton if the cost looks like good ‘value’ in the bigger picture.

Yates had a lot more games and took about 10 to get going though, and he's older, and came off the back of a full and successful season at Swindon. Embo hasn't had his break through season yet, just a sneak preview.

Yeah maybe. I just don’t agree. No big deal as our opinion doesn’t matter anyway 😀

Does the squad need yet another midfield player?
The squad needs another striker and right full back.
I reckon we need 2 RB’s (or 1 RB and 1 RWB), 1 CM (attack minded), 1 LW, and 2 Forwards (1 Quick and Powerful and 1 ideally able to play between midfield and the forward line).

In an ideal works for me it’s Gabriel + one other, KDH (or similar), a left winger, Simms and Embleton.

I work in Sunderland and we were chatting about Embleton on Wednesday and there was a strong view that his link play has no part of Johnsons inept up and under tactics. He probably knows that.

I actually really like the suspense of it all rather than someone knowing who we signed three weeks before we sign them.

I think he's a bit different. If Sullay and Matty Virtue were spliced in some kind of bizarre experiment, you'd get Embo.

Agree with the GTF thing. He's also a lot younger than GTF was. There's an unusual player there. Not always effective but sometimes effective in a way that others wouldn't be.
That’s a great idea for a thread- which 2 players would you splice?
Id go for sear sene & gnando, imagine the contorted direction the legs would go on that bad boy spliced hybrid

I feel like he’s a player who can vastly improve under Critch, he’s definitely capable. If we can get him for a decent price I’d say go for it but I don’t think he’s a player we should break the bank on

Wonder if they’d loan him again? Not as if we’re in the same league now and keeps him as their asset.

Decent enough player & Critch would improve but I would want loan players to be from a Prem club as they should be players that we couldn’t afford but would make a huge difference to our team .
