Embleton

I know this will sound ‘a mate of a mate’ stuff but……. A lad from work who Lives in the North East and knows Embleton has told me this - Embleton has no idea what is happening, SAFC have not spoken to him, he has no summer fitness programme, basically radio silence! He would welcome a perm move to the Gold Coast if it stacked up.

Harsh but probably accurate. Remembered for one great goal but don't think he did too much whilst he was here. And going up a division will make it even harder. But you never know.
I normally don't criticise players, but I simply don't get this love in some people have with him 20s.
He had 2 decent games at most and scored a great goal.
We need much better.

Don't get the love in either but we've signed so many untried and untested players at the level where we re going we just have to trust Critch. I reckon Critch will have had to learn a lot of lessons very quickly last season and that will stand him in good stead for this season. Of course he's not gonna get every signing right because sometimes things just don't work out for players but if he thinks Embleton can do it then we have to trust his judgement. That's if he wants him.

What criteria results in you pushing out the lifeboat then?
What grade of drownee gets enough push out points?
I'd push the boat out for Ballard, I'd cheer the launch for Simms, I'd watch from a deckchair on the prom for Embleton.
Basically I didn't rate him in the first few games but he improved and I started to think he was an asset. Plenty of energy and TWO good feet.

If we are to prioritise the loan players, for me its Simms, Ballard, Embleton and Gabriel.

I would happily live without the last two.

They put him on a one year retainer before sending him here to try and get a fee after THEY got promoted in the hope we could do them a favour and generate interest I think. Easiest one to get off a high wage bill with others refusing to budge or no interest in them.

If they saw an actual football future for him then they do a lot more to secure an asset than that. They're on their arse I think.

If we do want him, as much as its a KO trick, play the long game with it.

Not one to jump on a bandwagon but this is one i can associate with.
i am indifferent to him, he is ok but not great , didn’t impact many games at all and was a constant source of frustration with his average ability to maintain possession

not one that i would pay a fee gor

Don’t buy the two footed thing.

I am two footed - problem is they are both shite 😂😂🧡
His aren't shite. Though.

People seem to forget he's played 15 games for us and a handful for Sunderland. That's it. He has shown potential and improved a fair bit in a short time, and is only 21 ish? Same old thing here I think of judgements being made very quickly. Critch has seen him close up in training and knows about young player development so he'll have a fair idea.

I think he's a bit different. If Sullay and Matty Virtue were spliced in some kind of bizarre experiment, you'd get Embo.

Agree with the GTF thing. He's also a lot younger than GTF was. There's an unusual player there. Not always effective but sometimes effective in a way that others wouldn't be.

If Critch gets him for peanuts, and has a role in mind for him then a good signing. As previous poster has said he tries to open up defenses rather than take the easy option, and he showed his potential with that goal.
Simms is the signing I would like to see though

Rumour on the Sunderland fan site is that Wigan have bid for Embleton on the recommendation of Max Power, who has returned to Wigan

I think he ran the lines between midfield and attack well, nothing spectacular but linked play nicely. We don’t really have another player that does that, hence why we did well when he joined.

The added dynamic he brought to the team with his link play and energy in the run in to the playoffs was pivotal imo.
I'd go so far as to say we may not have made it without him.
He was given a chance to express himself here and he was obviously relishing it at the end.
IF he comes back (and I hope he does) I think he would quickly become a big hit with the fans.
The rumour I saw on the Sunderland RTG forum was that Rangers were looking at him.

It's a tricky one this. He certainly improved and certainly helped in our late push for promotion, is only 21 and a full season with Critch he will only get better. Is he the creative midfielder we need to build our season on in the Championship? I don't think so. I think our main signing this summer needs to be this one. We need someone who is going to take a game by the scruff of the neck and make life hell for opposition defences and heaven for our attackers and who can score 10 plus goals. Embo isn't that player, maybe in a couple of years, but not yet. Would I sign him? Yes, certainly.

If you look at our loan players Simms, Ballard, Embleton and Gabriel (I'm leaving Woodburn out) they ALL improved whilst they were with us.
We could find the same again but if the option arrived to sign any of them again, they know us, we know them, they would all be great additions.
I'd welcome any or all of them back be it on loan again or permanent

Had Sunderland beaten Lincoln in the semis and played us in the final, leaving Embo sat in the stands for the most important game of the season, I think most on here would have rightly said we'd have been be below strength. OK that's L1 standard and we now have to look at ourselves to match up against Championship standard teams but Embo is young and will only improve so while I agree he shouldn't be a big ticket transfer he would be a decent option to play the number 10.

I wouldn't be gutted if we didn't sign Embleton specifically, as much as I like him. We definitely need a player of that nature though now we've lost Kaikai and Embo, a creative, skilful, playmaking midfielder - we could probably do with two of them really!

Carey and Embleton, perhaps!

It's no coincidence that results improved when he was brought into the team, how much of that was down to his performances alone is questionable but we seemed to score more and look more clinical up top. His stock is high, Sunderland will know this and no doubt command a decent fee for his services, money which i'm sure a large proportion of the fanbase will feel could be better spent elsewhere.

If we do chase after him it'll probably go down to the wire on deadline day. If he's not starting for them at that point he will want to join us and they'll probably cash in. We may or may not agree a price, of course. Someone else might offer more.
