England v New Zealand 2nd Test

I'd give Bairstow another opportunity as opener
He's an excellent white ball player, and is experienced against the world's best bowlers.
Yes he wss out of form in the Red ball game, but t's not as if we've got an array of talent at nr 1 or 2.
I think we play Buttler too far down the order as well, I would drop Pope

Oh.... Alex Davies anyone??
Mark Wood for me

Gotta say that was embarrassing, good pitch, shocking batting, absolutely no concentration and application. Taking nothing away from the Black caps they bowled well but ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️

Their batsmen all have a simple, identical technique. Ours are leaping around and twitching like an epileptic convention with the strobe light on. Who's coaching them?
Our batsmen also share an identical technique……

It’s called getting out cheaply!!!

It's nowhere near the first team, I have no idea why they are playing so many players who wouldn't usually get a look in. Bizarre.

India will rip us a new one if this was the team going out to play, It will be a lot better once we have the missing players back. It's almost like we have disrespected New Zealand.

New Zealand had plenty of first choice players missing too.

Kind of similar to the batsmen on here but who get run chases cheaply 😁

Watched the 'highlights' and it was appalling. Joe Root wants chucking out of the Yorkshire Seasiders 😊

Read this from Barney Ronay in today's Guardian. Tells you all you need to know about why we're so shit just now. Silverwood has to go and we need to start playing our best players in their best positions. We've got test series against the two best test curent playing countries and we're just farting about with it. Apart from anything else it's disrespectful to our opponents 😫

Silverwood out!

Comprehensively beaten by a much better all round team. The top order batting has been a huge weakness for several years now and consistently puts England on the back foot. Nasser is right regarding the technical deficiencies and the apparent acceptance of them at county level. The well looks very dry.

One area where I do have some support for the set up is with the rotating squad. It’s a packed year of cricket but more importantly the covid rules around quarantine will change things significantly and a different approach has been needed.

Good luck to the kiwis versus India. They’re a likeable side with grit and a lot of bowling skill and deserve some recognition.

I like New Zealand, much better in every department. England abject - but at least I got a full refund 😃

To be fair there were only a couple of new faces . . . James Bracey came in for Ben Foakes and Ollie Robinson / Olly Stone came in for Ben Stokes.

Bracey has had a bit of a nightmare but Robinson & Stone did OK so I don't think you can blame the new faces too much.

The big problem we have (and have had for years) is the top order . . . Burns, Sibley & Crawley consistently fail to deliver. Yes they've all had the odd decent knock but we never lay the foundations for a big total.

In these two tests the seam attack of Jimmy, Broad & Wood haven't performed to their usual standard.

Root & Pope have also been below par . . . but are clearly first choice players with test pedigree. The jury is out on Lawrence but I think he deserves a decent run.

Out of the players missing there is only Stokes & Foakes that would be a definite starters in out best test team IMO.

Buttler is an option as a batsman only & obviously Woakes & Archer would be contenders for bowling slots for certainly not guaranteed places.

In fairness to Broad and Anderson, they bowled well without much look at all. They beat the bat a lot and England’s catching has been poor too. The bowling (apart from the lack of spinner) isn’t the problem.

Well we re missing some big players ie stokes, butler, foakes, archer, so there is hope maybe
Yes, but NZ rested up to 6 main players as well.
The fragility of our batting at test level has been apparent and consistent for the last 2 or 3 years. The team has been baled out by the bowlers far too often. Not helped by constant chopping and changing of the opening 5 or 6 players and the selection of players not up to scratch. And whose daft ideas was it to not not select a spinner for Edgbaston and Bracey as wicketkeeper?

How does social distancing work at the test today and for the last 3days I also reckon that barmey army mob are a bunch of morons

Indeed they they did but it's pretty clear they have a stronger squad than we do. Whereas we have a good bowling line up with a few options our batting line up is hopelessly weak at the moment and it's in this area NZ have so many more options.
