Enough incentive for the EFL Trophy

Just over 1,000 for a game where we can progress to the last 8 (regionally!) of a cup competition seems low. Surely a chance for this competition to get new supporters in grounds watching live football. Do they have any incentives bar reduced ticket prices to get bums ons seats?

I think allowing Premier League teams to enter their development squads killed this off as a serious men's competition.

Most teams fans are boycotting, Carlisle has a record ever low attendance of 700 odd a few weeks back
They ain't boycotting they simply CBA.
Last night around me was the same die hards who go to most games same similar to the Morecambe match.

Last Saturday we'd have had less tham 3k home fans always the same in cup games.

What can be done apart from freebies not a lot.

B team boycott is a myth. Every team that has attended the final have sold thousands of tickets.
The only way the powers above will realise its a sham is with 2 under 21 sides making it to the final but even then I fear there would be a fairly high crowd if priced accordingly.

I'll still attend these games as it's cheap fairy decent standard football, can sit on the half way line for a tenner and get a sort of non league feel for the game as I can hear the players and coaches talking/shouting which weirdly adds to the experience.

What the club need to do is some sort of season ticket add-on for cup ties - there's always at least one trophy matches and one league cup tie, so a minimum 2 cup games. If the club charged say £40 on top of season tickets and that covered up to 4 home cup games, then people would buy it with their season ticket, and the club would get more revenue from hospitality etc too.

Crowds have always been crap in this competition.
I can't remember us packing BR out when we won the thing all those years ago.

The U21 rubbish is a myth

Hopefully an u21 team gets to the final - Brighton and West Ham I think still left.

I'm not even sure I'd bother with the final - but then again I'm just an armchair fan. 🙄

They could / should have the national league teams in it.

Had a quick look to double check. Most attendancesq15 before B-teams were between 2-4000, since then most attendances, especially the u21 games are in 3 figures,
Wasn't streaming available back then now if it's a bit cold you can watch for free at home.

They've got their own competitions which is fantastic that their fans get the opportunity to have a final at Wembley.

I would restructure both the lower league competitions for two reasons.

Firstly, they are too much of a distraction to the higher placed teams; resulting in dismissive team selections that end up showing disrespect for both the opposition and the competitions.

Secondly, there are, currently, too many matches being played during a long season. This results in too many mid-week matches early in the season and a congested programme in winter where travelling can be made hazardous by bad weather, attendances can be hit by both the weather and by Christmas commitments and the pitches can suffer. The latter impacts the lower (and less affluent), clubs more critically then it does the better off.

To mitigate these problems I would (a) dispense with the EFL trophy altogether. The inclusion of EPL U21 teams has not had any positive impact that I can see. Also, the one benefit that does come to mind - that of providing competitive game time to peripheral squad players, can be catered for by (b), restructuring the EFL Cup.

The EFL Cup should be competed by EFL clubs in the Championship, Leagues 1 and 2 and by all teams in the Vanarama National League. The Cup would not be open to teams in the EPL.

I'll take a day out at Wembley, the early stages do feel a bit lifeless though.

The competition has definitely helped us this year blood certain players and bring certain players into form. Morgan will have certainly made a case to start in the first team now, it's helped Beesley and Kouassi get some goals under their belt.

Derby & Bradford only got 1,900 each last night & Wycombe 323😱😱😱
Yep there's far bigger clubs than us who get some pitiful attendances in this competition. Derby get over 25k in league 1 regularly and only managed that, quite telling. Makes the 1296 look not as bad... we did get more in earlier rounds, so maybe the cold put some off.

They should simply fast track the comp and make it a FGR V Scarboro final (ignores fact that Scarboro not in LEague)

Argyle made upwards of a £1M last season by reaching the final ; partially due to luckily playing Bolton in the final , ensuring a crowd just shy of 80,000. So it can pay to treat it semi seriously.
