Euro 2020

Is there a strong possibility that the euros could be cancelled this year then? I am unsure of how long this virus is going to take to be gotten hold of. Will it be sorted or under control by the summer or not? If not I think the whole tournament will need looking at.

The government wants to move into the delay phase,so that most cases are delayed until the summer when the NHS can cope better, not sure how they can effectively delay this, but thats the plan, and so the Euro's would be affected

First I have heard this. I also am not sure how you can delay a virus?
STE the delay phase means delay its spread rather than the current phase of just containing it. Delay is where "social distancing" measures will be considered - which could include restrictions on public gatherings above a certain number of people.

Hope this helps clarifies the delay phase.

Yes it does mate. Thank you.

I can't see how it will go ahead if things carry on on their current trajectory, even behind closed doors? Surely it only needs one player/staff member to be diagnosed before it puts everyone else at risk?

Agree. I would rather it not go ahead than play BCD. I am for the rest of the domestic season to go ahead BCD because we need the conclusion. Teams with a chance for promotion or survival ie Sunderland and Tranmere, should be allowed the chance to win the points, it is only fair. Also could you imagine the meltdown in Liverpool if they cancelled the season? We'd never hear the end of it lol.

The same thing surely applies domestically though, that if one person gets it, they will infect others, negating the point of it being held BCD?

Given the situation in Italy at the moment with all Serie A matches postponed and a Juventus player testing positive l think they may well force a decision through. It’s only 3 months away with other european countries not yet in the same position as Italy. It really is a very difficult situation.

I don't know mate. It is all such a mess. I am trying to remain fair to those clubs who still have it all to play for. Starting a tourney tho is a no no. Maybe a postponement is best? But how long would it before? Will it go in to next season and knock start of that back? Would it end the season starting in August for quite some time? Can they just cancel out this season? Wouldn't matter to BFC would it, but to other clubs it will. Such a mess all of it.

If the Prem is not finished then apparently there are hundreds of millions to be paid back to the broadcasters.

The prem will finish somehow, even if it’s just on EA’s FIFA!

The problem with delaying games is as you say the knock on effect, not only the football calendar being broke for potentially years, but also stuff like transfer windows

Yep. I honestly think they will have to risk BCD unfortunately to come to a conclusion and so it doesn't have a knock on effect.

This coronavirus is a real pesky little blighter and make no mistake! It's going to come properly, how can it be stopped? the death toll and the financial impact it will have around the world on individuals, businesses and countries is going to be unprecedented. All stemming for the weird old Chinese who have to eat just about anything they can get their hands on, like virus infected bats or whatever it was, in an open market. Thanks very much!!
