There was a piece on Euronews, better than Mrs Brown's Boys, about our Government now scrapping the addition of VAT on female monthly products. Interestingly on the BBC News there was no mention of it, perhaps it's too good a news story for them!
 
The leader of the campaign to scrap it is now moaning that Brexit is being used to justify this and that in time the EU could have changed its rules any way. Brexit derangement syndrome strikes again!

If we are at the stage where posters think the BBC are wilfully not reporting stuff because the implication is it is a `good news Brexit story`, then it`s a pretty deep rabbit hole that some are down.

I heard it on Radio 4 yesterday morning.

When we enter into the `lamestream media` world, so favoured by Trump and other wannabee demagogues, everything is up for grabs...

They clearly weren’t needed. But if they hadn’t been built it would have been reckless behaviour by reckless leavers as the deal was never going to be done (another failed remainer certainty). You lot would moan about the sun rising in the morning.
 
So this should have been in place in 2018 when the EU first proposed it. Why the long delay?
The bit that surprises me in the BBC article is that it only saves women approx £40 in their lifetime. That’s the cost of one night out basically or a months phone bill.
I expected it to be much more, however it is still a progressive move as it’s an unfair tax based on equality.

Edit to add: there are reports this morning the government are planning to build another one. Bit odd bearing in mind they now know we have a deal?

Firstly we could have done this when we were in the EU (as the ROI already has this tax exemption).
Secondly, as his been shown, it has been reported widely on the BBC.
Talk about fake news!
 
The government agreed to lower the tax rate down to 5%, which is the lowest rate of tax allowed by EU law for anything that has been at any point subject to VAT. If feminine hygiene products were to go completely untaxed, all twenty-eight member states of the EU would have to unanimously agree on the decision – a unanimous decision that the UK believes is unlikely to ever happen.

so not fake news. Zero rating is impossible in the EU on anything that has has VAT placed on it previously unless unanimity is achieved on the issue.

So why are there reports this morning that they are planning to build more?

Now we know we have a deal?
 
This tax could have been reduced below 5% just like pulse fishing could have been banned at anytime. Both were done on the 1st Jan as a poor man's comical Ali style propaganda exercise, what's disturbing is brexiteers again lapping it all up as some bizarre justification for the nonsense. Albeit a saving of £40 throughout a females lifetime is an eye watering bonus that clearly was at the forefront of brexiteers minds on the 23rd June 2016.

Incorrect on VAT. Unless you advocate breaking EU VAT law whilst in the EU which the remainers were very keen on never doing. Would have cost more than a few lorry parks to see that infront of the ECJ.

There is zero VAT in Ireland and they are in the EU, the House if Commons rejected a vote in 2015 to take this issue to the EU and thirdly the govt could have made sanitary products free like they did in Scotland last year. After four and a half years, saving women approx £1 a year is the first alleged tangible benefit of brexit. Well done.
 
Why people would want to watch Euro news anyway is totally beyond me.

Surely it would be much easier if these people who are more interested in European affairs should simply move there?

Just a thought like being this country is a laughing stock and all.........

Has nothing to with sexist' tampon tax but has to do with the cost the wastewater treatment plants have every year .
The European union provides subside every year to those plants to get rid of that mess .

I was waiting for her to give an answer but when it came it was out them in the bin don’t flush them in the toilet (which is surely obvious?)
I’m still in favour of the tax being scrapped and do believe it is unfair

The point is once it has been applied you can’t then zero it without unanimous agreement. It’s legal fact as opposed to remainers nonsense.

So you seriously think that anyone who takes an interest in European affairs should have to move there?

By that logic, you should be forcibly re-housed in Chatsworth Avenue.

Just a fraction of the 48% i would have at a guess as probably 47.5% have since excepted it and moved on.

clappers is right. The UK was permitted to retain the zero-rate schedule in its VAT Act. It was not allowed to create new rates below 5%.
 
Has anyone heard about the tampons with tinsel on? They're for the Christmas period.

As you may know the UK govt could have voted to take the issue to the EU. They didn't. You may know VAT on such products could have been at zero prior to the EU setting it's floor (as in ireland) but we didn't.
It's been calculated that the reduction of tax to zero will save 5p for a pack of 12, which results in a saving of £40 over a women's lifetime. These are facts, I'm not sure what your point is? Do you have a large harem of women and see this as a big saving or are you a flag shagger who clings to this as a pathetic tenuous brexit benefit and just can't let it go.........

We have freedom of speech and thought in this country, if I dont like the current government or the result of a referendum or an election I am entitled to say so.
It doesn't make me less British to disagree with the public school cheerleaders that you support. And if the tide of opinion changes the other way you are entitled to disagree with me and you can still live in Fleetwood while you do it.
People have got too polarised with their views, thinking that other nations sometimes do things better than us doesn't make you less British, it means you want us to be better!!

We had people on here saying come 2021 we wouldn’t have food on the table and shops would have empty shelf’s.
