Euronews last night

Not even close I would say.
We had people on here saying come 2021 we wouldn’t have food on the table and shops would have empty shelf’s.
That’s what I would call idiotic.
I bet we didn't, my guess is people probably said there could be logistical problems and things went be as easy so why bother.
Very different to saying we will have no food!

I know what I read, in addition to above there were going to be wagons queued along the whole length of the M20, grid lock at the Irish border, no one would be able to dive to the continent without masses of paperwork international driving licenses etc, really? It’s 3rd Jan and last time I looked none of those things have happened yet, maybe because it’s a Sunday and things won’t kick in till tomorrow? 🤔

As you may know the UK govt could have voted to take the issue to the EU. They didn't. You may know VAT on such products could have been at zero prior to the EU setting it's floor (as in ireland) but we didn't.
It's been calculated that the reduction of tax to zero will save 5p for a pack of 12, which results in a saving of £40 over a women's lifetime. These are facts, I'm not sure what your point is? Do you have a large harem of women and see this as a big saving or are you a flag shagger who clings to this as a pathetic tenuous brexit benefit and just can't let it go.........

My point is that you are pretending to know how European law applies and you clearly don't. You can't take matters of law "to the EU". There are well defined channels through which such matters are pursued. Legal disputes are routed through the ECJ via the Commission or the European Parliament depending on what is in dispute. The UK did seek to reduce VAT on some goods below the 5% minimum permitted rate but was rebuffed, not least because the UK already has far more zero rates than any other country. This can only be achieved by obtaining dispensations, known as derogations, from the European Commission and we were unable to obtain these.

What you need to appreciate is that the UK can now dispense with these cumbersome and restrictive requirements relating to changes in indirect tax rates and is no longer bound by ECJ jurisdiction. You seem to be trivialising something that is massively important to the UK in legal and economic terms.

Where did you read it? And if it was on here and one person said it then it is hardly indicative of general opinion.

Oh I think it’ll be surpassed.

And probably by the same poster

Edit to add: but then I had forgotten about Scara. Very timely post by him 👍
No I don't think it will be beaten, read it again, it is so succint. It combines lack of empathy, lack of nuance, lack of duality with a simplistic xenophobia, it's brilliant.

I’ve just read in yesterday’s Guardian that France has only vaccinated 322 people, Italy 8.200 and Germany 130,000
They left it very late ordering the Pfizer vaccine expecting there to be a basket of suppliers available. US ordered 600m doses back in July so getting lion share.

Approval plan was to do it en masse so the small countries would get same benefit as large ones. They’re hoping to get Modena approach next week and AZ not confirmed yet.

German Health minister taking major flack on this with the BioNTech vaccine being made in Germany

Who predicted this ? 🤔 😂

Wow. You really are quite the little fascist, aren't you?
I don't think JTH has taken into account a number of things Robbie before spouting about going to live in Europe.

I've read books about Hitler and the Concentration Camps, so perhaps I should become a Nazi or live in Germany.

But,

I've read books about Stalin, his murders and his Pograms as well as his Siberian Stalags, so, maybe I should move to Russia.

But

I've read about various wars both European, continental and Asian as well as the American Civil War, so I'm not sure where that puts me.

But,

I've read a couple of books about Mao and the Chinese revolution as well as its effects on today's state, so perhaps I should go to China.

But,

I'm just finishing a book on Okinawa and the end of the horrendous war in the Pacific, so perhaps I should move to Japan.

Decisions, decisions, decisions, when I voted to leave the EU I didn't do it to become a hermit and live my life not knowing what was going on around the world and I find Euronews quite interesting in parts.

Which brings me to a question, I wonder where JTH's clothes are made, Bangladesh? Taiwan? China? Turkey? some sweatshop in Africa? or anywhere else, I would wager they are not all made in the good old UK. So if that is the case where should he live? 🙄

I had no real issues with your O/P Wilf because as a poster I’ve respected you for a good while now but unfortunately the usual re-moaners on here turned it in to yet another toxic debate like most others and it ends up the usual vitriol slagging match of who's right and who’s wrong and it’s getting pretty tiresome these days when people who don’t know others suddenly start using the Marxists, Facist's, Racists taunts which is pretty shambolic given the fact some on here are supposed to be highly educated people.
Anyway apologies if it came across as a dig at you personally because it wasn’t intended to be.
