Europa conference league final tonight

Do Roma's nutters still go around stabbing the opposition's fans in the arse, or was that just for the English?

Man United should re sign Smalling. Played a blinder tonight.

I'm trying to figure out what this trophy actually means. Bigger than the Cup Winners Cup?

If I remember rightly there were 3 major trophies. European Cup, Cup winners Cup and Fairs Cup. Back then i think they were ranked in that order of importance. So this trophy is the equivalent of the Fairs Cup.

Fair enough. Too young to remember the Fairs Cup so don't really understand what it meant.

The European Cup used to be for the one team in that country who won their League. The Cup Winners Cup was self explanatory and Fairs Cup was usually for teams who finished 2rd or 3rd and hadn’t won the Cup. A much higher standard than today

The Fairs Cup wasn't a proper competition. It was an invitation event and could have guest players iirc so Villa players could play for 'Birmingham'. UEFA disowned it and started the UEFA Cup which was initially a 2 leg final but morphed into one at the end.
I've enjoyed it. Its good to see other teams get the spotlight.

Yep, back in the day it was considered more prestigious to win the Cup rather than be second or third in the league. Not necessarily so now of course. Especially in financial terms.

It's all the place money.... 😉

If we wanted to, could we give the FA Cup winners a champions league place and lose one from the EPL?

Is that allowed?

That's how it started but I think it did evolve to be a competition where there was no such thing as guest players.
