When you put it like that…..yes 👎

I doubt the fans are complaining about the amount of money spent. More about Everton being the worst run club on the planet probably. Money isn't the only contributor to the value of things!

Is that £700m more than they received?

I think that's just transfer fees. I doubt they have received that .
I dread to think of the wages and manager contract payouts .

kind of points to something i keep saying that big(gish) money and big name signings are not a guarantee of success or even survival.

Everton have been pushing at the relegation places for a few seasons now. but they keep doing the same thing over and over.

So they sack Lampard who did well to keep them up last season, sold their best player and gave him little to spend in the summer and wonder why they are struggling again. To then approach Brentford for Thomas Frank and be told to bugger off. They are a rudderless ship with entitled, whiny fans who have forgot that their club hasn't been relevant for the best part of 40yrs. I hope they go down!

They’re not overly wild about a sanctioned Russia-linked billionaire seemingly being the power/money behind the throne, for example. And while their new stadium is going to be fabulous, there appear to be some doubts as to whether they’ve got the funding in place to finish it.

All underpins the fact that signing cheques isn’t the be-all and end-all of an owner’s responsibility.

I think I read that under Moshiri ownership they have spent 700m on players and recouped 400m through sales.

Yep...

"Relegation would entail a fire sale of assets from the squad and raise the spectre of administration for a club that posted combined losses of £372.6m in its past three available set of accounts. About £700m has been spent on more than 50 players in the Moshiri era, with just over £400m recouped in sales."

They have been teetering on the edge for some time now and just managing to scrape their way to safety but it’s about time they fell through the trap door.

A season or two in the Championship might give them a reality jolt. They are still in the mindset that they are a big club and should be at the top but they have been passed by several clubs who have been better run and been more astute in recruitment.

They were unhappy with Moyes who managed to keep them mid table with moderate budgets but that was not good enough.

They have wasted an obscene amount of money on players who were simply not good enough. Time to go bye bye!

"Lucrative commercial ties with companies owned by the oligarch Alisher Usmanov, Moshiri’s former business associate, have been cut since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine." From the Guardian article above.

That could have been said by our ex chairman.
