Every ffff'ing week

He gets asked a question by a journalist WTF is he supposed to say?
Their utter shite?

What a non story every manager comments on the opposition you only have to watch any interview before a live game.
Yes, but he rarely bangs the drum that we can hurt the opposition. Whether he motivates his players is debatable but he seems to demotivate a growing number of the fanbase.

Did he cream over teams that we beat easily as well? Every game is competitive and difficult to win.

You could look at it the other way and say let’s send a team out thinking today is going to be easy, we know how that usually works out in football. Plus, if he did there would be posts saying he was complacent and fired up the opposition.

He has to say things like that, it compliments our formation, so when we are shit he can say "told you they were a great team" whoever we've played recently he's played to their strengths so at least he's doing his homework albeit all wrong.

Simple response would be "It doesn't matter if we focus on our game plan and hit them hard n quick they'll have to worry about us" Stop pandering to them n give it em right up the sphincter
You do know how journalists work?
They ask a multitude of questions and then cobble a story together not do word for word like a TV interview.

It's the Gazette FFS.

He does it in the videos. Surely if you believe in what you're doing, the opposition are irrelevant and have to adapt to play us. Eg - leave 3 up top with wide players on the byline, they'd have to keep players back to deal with it. Speed the passing up/bypassing players so they can't get back and set up. I just think he focuses too much on what the opposition have n can do that his own plans go sideways

Holloway for example, yes we know he sided with that family, however. Stuck to his guns and philosophy and attacked, whether it was arsenal, Liverpool, man United, Swansea, forest. It stayed the same. Players knew their jobs, we didn't always win but we gave it a go. Instead of passing up one side, nope it's blocked so back 50 yards, across the back, up the other side. Momentum gone now so we end up with some shite panicked cross to nothing

He’s trying to manage our expectations isn’t he.

I’ve been a big supporter of NC but I agree with the original poster. We should be imposing our game on other teams.
He's a master of lowering our expectations and giving the opposition a boost prior to the game. At present neither him or his players are giving the fans anything to look forward to.

Holloway used to say exactly the same kind of things about the opposition. Regularly used to say how many millions they had spent, highlight the quality of their players etc..

It’s just an excuse to have a go at the Manager.. Last week he was being criticised for saying ‘Erm’ too many times.

What matters are the results …. End Of

Literally every manager does this. As above, he’s not likely to say “these are bobbins and we’ll put 5 past them”, is he?
It's pretty standard, the tough game routine.

So it doesn't come back to bite you or the opposition put your words on their wall as motivation, like we've done before.

Correct.
Are they good enough ?

We've had a fair few to give us an idea !! For me not good enough .
Today is a big one for him, probably the biggest league game of the season , big crowd , pressure already on .
Win only for me and then some to make the play-offs.
Let's see.
The results so far are woefully short for a Top Two spot, aren’t good enough to achieve a Play Off spot at this point. They have been just about good enough to keep us in touch with the Play Offs, they have certainly been good enough for a Top Ten finish and They’ve been outstanding as far as avoiding relegation is concerned.

Even Mccarthy and TC could have avoided relegation in this league.

'They have some great options etc... but so do we and on our day etc....'

I don’t listen to them anymore nor read it same with players/new signings and all that, once you’ve heard one you’ve heard them all too much crap posted nowadays I wished we could go back to the 90’s and teletext

Critchley creams over the opposition. Forget them and concerntrate more on our attacking threat and kicking their flucking arses. View attachment 18473
Critchley's honesty would mouth:

"Bolton deserve their playoff spot.

"But they won't change me.

"I'll include players unrated by fans, stick to tactics which have often failed and leave the subs until too late."

Said before I'd love to hear his rallying off to war team talk at 2.45 today 🤨 or will it be more like "come on boys these are a superb team that are far better than us...but if we keep it tight for 90mins and then sneak a goal it will be great.... and I can do my fist punch" .... yeah OTT but can't imagine it being very motivational... maybe doing critch an injustice but just can't see it

It's funny how all managers and players seem to always big-up the opposition.

Yet boxers have the complete opposite viewpoint when talking about their opponent.

He is the opposite of Holloway, who installed confidence and belief in his own players.
Anyway it isn't Boltons players I am jealous off, I wish we had Evatt as our manager.

I haven’t been in the dressing room before games so, like you and every single member of this message board, I have no idea whatsoever about how the players are motivated before games.

I do watch pre match interviews though, which is what we are talking about here.

you tell me pal 😉

If he makes a motivational speech before most games, it ain’t working pal. If he diversified from his usual preamble today, then about bloody time and I hope he takes on board what can happen. Viva la difference.

Yeah, he probably just really wanted to win today and wasn’t bothered before. I’m pretty sure professional football is that simple, so good shout 👍

I appreciate your sarcasm but your first sentence is probably nearer to the truth than you realise. Number one in the coaching manual of boring football is don’t lose. Number two is if you manage to nick a lucky goal hang on to it. Number three is make sure you have a number of fans who slavishly believe this mantra. Goodbye number three.

Always fun to debate 👍🍊

Well I would have liked Evatt as manager, but he was Critched into oblivion yesterday. Gave the post match interview of a traumatised jellyfish.

It's what's said after games that matters. 👍
