Exeter City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 12.08.23

Good point considering how the game went. Didn't impose ourselves enough or stick to our style enough. We do look pretty solid, but much to improve of we have ambition of going straight back up.

Two evenly matched teams either of which could have nicked it. Decent result away from home. At least it spared Critchley the fist pumps that some abhor 😬😂

That is the only positive. Played poor but still take a point Really missing some quality in between the lines of midfield and attack. We also need a partner for Lavery and quick.

No goals conceded in 3 games. Well organised. Undoubtably lacking some creativity in midfield but then how many League 1 teams have a Kevin De Bruyne in them.

Without a really good save from their keeper we win away from home against a good team.

All looks good for me.

Ok result, half due to their pressure and half due to our set up. Critchley needs to be a bit more positive in the way we play, especially away from home. I can understand though, that he wanted to make sure we didn’t lose.

You’re not allowed to say that. Protected species the Bees. Never going to get promoted if he starts upfront every week

thats a decent point, exeter were a distance better than either derby or burton. quite a cagey game, exeter were very organised in defence, decent on the break, we had a couple of harum scarum moments but generally we kept them at bay. We probably had the better chances to score, a few too many long balls from grimshaw, but we were being forced to go long to some extent, please Mr critchley stop with this inverted wing back shit, it doesn't work.

no goals conceded, another point in the bag, and not an unentertaining game

Norburn the clear quality in our team. Can’t really find anything else to be excited about. Carey anonymous in a very important position. No threat from set pieces and a great chance spurned at the end. My old hope is the lad from Swansea and the new loanee are better than what we have

Solid performance away from home against a team that have started well. I can see a few struggling against them, they looked decent.

Would have been three points if it wasn't for an excellent save. Fair play to the keeper, he was out quickly and Virtue didn't do too much wrong with the finish.

I'll take the point, Exeter are a good top half of the table team, my dark horses to make a push for the play offs. Good point on the road whilst still missing a few players. We move on to Tuesday and hopefully 3 points at home.
Agree. Exeter played with a lot of energy , and are very well organised .

I'd give Dale a run in the Carey position on Tuesday. He's a bit lightweight but he's more busy and has a bit of attitude. Carey seems a bit too nice if you know what I mean.

Positives for me, Grimshaw had hardly anything to do, we looked fit, strong and organised, Joseph and Jensen will make a massive difference.
Negatives, the inverted wingbacks, general lack of creativity.

Overall a good point and I think Dougall, Virtue and Dale made an impact from the bench, so close to getting the winner. I'd be tempted to put Dougall and Weir in next week for Carey and Morgan.

James Husband was man of the match in my opinion.Played very well read things well and made some important challenges

Norburn is so good at breaking up any build up play.He has a great technique when he wins the ball back without any risk of fouling the player it’s very good

Since Lyons got moved to left wing-back at the end of last season and with Critch this season it has taken away his goal threat.

Dougall had the pass of the game with his first-time ball to Virtue with his left foot, he also won the 50-50 that lead to Virtue's effort at the end.

For all Norburns effort, he is totally right footed, he needs someone near him that can use his left foot.

As for big Marv, the two players next to him need to gamble and do something with the ball instead of just keep giving it back to Marv,
