Exeter is a (very) long way.

Given that the game is in August on a Saturday, the journey could take anything between 5 and 8 hours. This is one where they might have to consider going down on Friday. Thoughts ?

I wouldn't drive down on Saturday myself. Even if I had a car! Could be stuck in traffic for hours, surely?

On a perfect run (which will only happen if you set off in the middle of the night) you can do it in closer to 3.5 hours, it’s about 270 miles. If not then setting off on the Friday would be recommended I have made this journey many, many times and I would NOT set off on Saturday morning unless it’s the really early hours.

Set off as early as you can on the Friday. I used to be able to see the M5 south of Bristol from our flat and the traffic build up from 3/4pm Friday is appalling. Let’s hope for another 3 points

The M5 south of Bristol is always congested in August on Saturdays, I've turned back from trips to Plymouth and other matches before now when it was obvious I couldn't get there in time. Travel on Friday, it might take a very long time but you won't miss the game.

I always wonder what the team do for long away trips, how they travel and when.

If I were there, I would try and do the Friday late night drive down. Done it to Cornwall before and it’s worth it.

Agree with all the above. Done the trip down that way many times and it always ends up about 6/7 hours minimum. I won't be going to this one so fair play to all you who are but my advice would be set off very very early

As a sandgrown'un now in Torbay, a Saturday in August is not recommended, and, you will definitely need to stop, probably more than once (adding 15-20 mins a time).
Exeter to Torbay is about half an hour. On average, Torbay to 'home' is 6 hours. That means sometimes it's less, sometimes it's more.
There's NO pattern, and NO guarantees.
If you want to do it, as Devonshire says, set off somewhere between 3 and 4. Half 4 absolute latest.
And you will get stuck in traffic somewhere.
I've not done it in 3.5 hours.

It wasn't any fun going down there for a midweek match.
Only thing I remember is
A. A bloody long way.
B. Got pissed wet through.
C. Kevin Stonehouse scored.

Yes, it was that long ago😁

Just to confirm my quickest is from Torbay to Blackpool is about 4 hours. As such in theory Exeter is about 30 minutes short of Torquay therefore 3.5 hours, but as above says the only chance you have of doing anything like that is setting off in the early hours. The Bristol area can be a real pain, but many other potential traffic hot spots on route. Good luck to anyone travelling 👍

Current plan is to set off at 06.30 Saturday....do-able?
Suggest first light say around 5am if going on Saturday. An early and non boozie night might be in order.
Don’t forget that Leigh and other Rugby League fans will be off to Wembley down the M6 and that might clog things up as far as Birmingham or the Toll Road.
The last thing you want to happen when going that far is to miss out due to heavy traffic and increased stress levels.

After chatting with the passengers we're going to risk it. Did Lyme Regis in 5 hours on a Friday October Half-Term last year so 🤞even with a bit of traffic we'll be there for kick off! Staying overnight, so long as we're there for 3pm that'll be fine. If we're at Frankley services by 9.30ish that bodes well.

Good luck….didn’t know about that effing festival which has blighted many a Pool fan in the past.
I get the feeling the EFL with it’s Preston links does these fixtures just to 😡😡😡😡ing annoy our fans.😂

Didn't know abut the Effing festival Bleach, probably be busier than the balloon festival 😭

If anyone wants to park in Taunton and get the train from there you can use my drive but I’m a good mile from the railway station but 5 mins from the M5 .

We’re setting off at 5.45am on Saturday. When I say we, I mean my pal. I’ll be asleep until breakfast around 9

Got back from a night game at Exeter in the back of Saaaaaab turbo in just over 3 hrs in the 90s 😱

And it's 'Boardmasters' in Newquay this weekend.
The last time I did it on an August Saturday, it took 9 hours.........

I’ve done Bristol comfortably in 3 hrs at about 5:30am on a Saturday.
We’re ditching vehicle at Bristol then jumping train direct to Exeter St Davids. It’s just over an hour and less than £20 return.
Will be drinking in Exeter easily by 11am 👍👍
Rather clever logistics... I would not have thought of that.

No-one is exaggerating the M5 problem. (I’ll not list them.)
1. Best solution in my opinion is go Friday if you can.
2. I like the idea of jumping on the train at Bristol. £20 return is excellent.
3. For God’s sake, set off early or earlier if you’re going Saturday.
Good luck.

Hope the coach has air con .. scorchio today!
Wonder if a player has ever had travel sickness and struggled with travelling away?

Shouldn't that've been, B. Got piss-wet-through? Or, alternatively, if you were out imbibing and inadvertantly found yourself caught up in something of a downpour, I'd say your version is absolutely spot-on! Just wanted to clarify ...
