haha i was the same. Got to Broughton roundabout eventually and missed the turning for A6 ended up going to preston then thought id better turn back ;-(

Absolute crap information - if there had been some indication that the M55/M6 junction was closed would have got off at the new junction. Again no indication that M61/M60 juction was closed but that was okay as there was no queue to get off - no diversion signs for anyone who didn't know the way to get back on though.

Down to single lane on M61 in 2 places for a few miles which was fine as only light traffic but big jam on northbound side, presumably as United were at home.
 
Yes we probably suffered more than most because after the unwanted diversion around Preston, and single carriageway driving for most of the rest of the way, we eventually had to leave the M62 has it was closed after Brighouse.
After 1.00 am before I got home and I was the first to be dropped off.

Yes, we got to Broughton and were sent off the motorway with no signage. That was fine as we went down past Asda to rejoin at 31A, but not helpful for those who don't know the area.

Same occurred when we got to the other end of the M61 where we couldn't join the M60, again with no warning or signage.

Then again when the M62 was shut between J26 and J27, resulting in a trip around Halifax near The Shay. Home around 1.00 am for me.

Could have been worse, at least we won.
 
I am an ex-trucker and pretty much know how to get anywhere by the back roads but even so with all the shit traffic/crashes/roadworks.

I drove home to Scorton with mates to drop off in Catterall & Garstang which on the way home its faster to go to Broughton then A6.

My point is even though I know my way around I now put Waze(other smart maps are available😉) on for even fairly local journeys and that last night sent me back to Windy Harbour off at Kirkham.

Obviously, it wouldn't have affected me like others but the point is just put Waze on as a precaution and it's saved me loads of traffic grief.......

I always use google maps for the same reason, like you even if it’s a short journey that I do regularly. I’ve heard positive reviews of Waze, is it better than google maps?

You must live not too far from me with that journey. Due to work commitments I couldn’t go last night, sounds like I was lucky in the travel sense.

I stick to Google Maps. Waze can try to be too clever sometimes and send everyone into the same small shortcuts so you get blocked there instead.

Thanks, that’s interesting, will be interesting to hear what others say. Google Maps is excellent, I’ve only had a couple of minor issues over the years so I’d need a lot of persuasion to change. I used to drive 15-20 miles each way to work with around 7 or 8 different routes and it used to save me well over an hour of travelling each week.

TSSJrs 1&3 went to the match last night; I think they put up the A6 and eventually back in to the M6.

Then the A19 N was closed too.

I think they ended up back home at 12.30am - I was long in bed by then though.

3 goals and a win makes it a bit more worthwhile.
 
UK diversion signage is generally ok but this past 2 years I’ve noticed it’s been awful, especially traveling at night.
Last year arrived at Newhaven late from a ferry, all the way from the M40 up to Wigan on the M6, closed use diversion, ok but then the diversion signs dissapear like magic.
Four times diversion Off motorways and four times I was completely lost.
It’s dark it’s raining and I’m following a wagon three times round a roundabout because he’d no idea either.
It never was this bad.
 
Could do with an easy to use website to show planned roadworks, especially motorway closures. I’ve not seen anything that is quick and highlights where on your planned route works will be going on. Highways England lists them all but I find it awkward to sift through. Google maps is fine real time but not for planning in advance.

I think the Highways Agency site/Twitter is supposed to be what you say
 
If you're driving over to Yorkshire at night, do not be tempted to come off at Junction 24 for Halifax, it was, on our journey, another sticking point being dug up bi directional controlled single file traffic and some clown lead all the traffic into the road works. Bradford is also , like Leeds a nightmare presently. Fortunately I was first out before Wizaard circa 12.35.

Yep those roadworks have been there ages and nowhere near done yet. The route is often gridlocked !

Very small chance, most of these roadworks happen late evening overnight so should not affect travel home after 3pm game. The site linked above posted by A13 seems to work well, no works planned on the roads I use this Saturday.

Cheers. But to be on the safe side, I’ll set off in good time Saturday morning and return straight after the finish.
And, what’s the weather forecast for “The Gold Coast” on Saturday? W. Yorkshire is expecting prolonged rain every day for the next eight days and the fields/golf courses are already saturated.

Met office showing it as cloudy with 10% chance of rain practically all day.

Similar problems when we played Vale. The M6 M61 and M60 all had lane restrictions and massive Qs

The reason I didn't go to be honest. Had a 6am start and it was either leaving the game early to avoid the cones going up at 9pm or saving me all the hassle and just buying TW - reading some of the comments about how cold it apparently was am glad of my choice!!

You did right. Wise choice. The fact that Fylde were at home to Oldham compounded the problem.
