FA Cup Replays Scrapped

The time is fast approaching when Premier league teams won't participate and that will be a very sad day.

Perhaps it means some of the Premier league players will now be available to play for their local Sunday League team instead of being tied up with the cup replays

Why scrap replays in rounds 1/2, when the Prem clubs aren't involved and non-league clubs can earn extra cash from replays?

For fans of smaller clubs, replays and the upsets they bring are about anticipation, excitement and the memories that go with them.

And if football has developed a scenario where EFL clubs desperately crave the chance of a Cup replay against bigger clubs to make ends meet, the overriding issue isn’t abolishing replays....

At least they abandoned the idea of just using a coin toss up until the semi's which would have eliminated the need to play.

Or have they.......

So the FA bow down because of increased European competitions, who only 6 or 7 clubs participate in. 6 or 7 Prem clubs who have the most money and biggest squads. Losing out on FA Cup replays will impact clubs further down the pyramid, yet the FA jokers say it is in the name of protecting them. The sooner we get proper football people in the FA and EFL the better, rather than these top 6 pandering goons.

Sad to hear.

When there have been threads on here, about your favourite ever Pool game, a regular shout out is, when we beat Arsenal at home in a FA Cup 3rd round replay.

Sadly now such memories will no longer exist for future generations of footy fans.

This is a disgraceful decision and panders to just a few of the Premier League. It shows just how out-of-touch The FA is with the lower reaches of the football pyramid.

FA cup replays away against a Prem or Championship club, in the 3rd or 4th round, in front of 40,000 people (with gate and TV revenue split equally) after a hard fought draw at home in front of just 5000 fans are the lifeblood for many League 1/2/Conference clubs. It can set them up well for quite a few future seasons and is just reward for a great performance.

I just about accepted ET and penalties for the 5th round onwards since the last 16 tends to be largely composed of Premier and upper Championship clubs.

With regards to these barmy clowns I'm just surprised they haven't ordered to teams to play in snorkels and flippers whilst wearing sombreros and singing I'm Henry The 8th I Am

How does this "strengthen the format"? It's just another kick in the teeth for the EFL and clubs further down the pyramid which are now robbed of memories that last a lifetime and revenues which might ensure their survival. Coventry could turn out to be the last club outside the Premier League to reach an FACup semi-final.

Why not just get rid of the FA Cup and have a best of 5 rock, paper, scissors tournament.
All done on the same day at the Wembley arena.

One of the best games I saw at Bloomfield Road this season was the replay against Forest. OK we lost, but it was a cracking game which Forest had to win and Blackpool tried their hardest to win.

Perhaps they should now rename it the FU Cup.
was at that game. end to end . booooks this is.

Another case of the laughably weak FA caving in to the EPL. Once again the blazer boys fail their customers. Pathetic and spineless.

Utter disgraceful decision and hope as many clubs as possible boycott the competition next season... really is a joke for the smaller clubs

If they'd added a clause that says any top flight club who draw a side L1 or lower, the lower league side will be offered the choice of venue (home or away), would that have been a sweetener?

I think changing a home tie to an away tie is permissible already with both clubs agreement. It certainly used to be the case some years ago, with non-league clubs drawn first sometimes agreeing to an away match to maximise their share of the gate.

Diabolical decision . Great to see a packed n bouncing lower league team equalise in the last minute and the fans go mental for a juicy replay .
Tell you what I'd love it if plenty of the billy big bollocks teams got stuffed by lower league teams . Would serve them right . The distance between the EPL. And the rest of proper English football is an ocean wide . Self serving greed

Not anymore and hasn't for ages.

Grimsby and Tranmere have both put out statements condemning this - apparently the EPL clubs weren't consulted about this at all.

The FA Cup lost a lot of its romance when the semi final was moved to Wembley and not another large neutral ground. Wembley should be for the final only!! Also makes no sense if it’s Manchester V Liverpool to be played in London.

The FA Cup is now dead and buried as far as the lower clubs are concerned which generated a lot of money for them notwithstanding the excitement involved!

The best thing about the FA Cup was when there were as many replays as required. You had to win to go through.

If its such a moneyspinner and everybody loves the FA cup then how come we played a Premier League club in a replay this season and struggled to get 8 thousand there? Yeah it was a night game and on TV but the appetite for this competition isn't there any more. It flares into life with a good game and shock now and again but it's dying a slow death in reality.
