Favourite Pool left backs

Alan wright ,crainey ,jaszcun, also only a few games for us but robbie williams did ok,and as others have said dylan kerr ,hillsy and a few others.

robbie williams, always had a good voice too, fantastic singer

He was, one i'd forgotten about. A good player and equally good decorator

Coached me when i was young , had a small dog called Pele

Ended up as Assistant England manager to Graham Taylor

A fantastic after dinner speaker, a very funny man and known for a special party trick
Lived in Poulton round the corner from me.

Emlyn Hughes wasn’t bad at left back for the short period he was at Blackpool, must have done enough to convince Bill Shankly to pay a record fee for his signature,

Billy Bentley hatchetman...also very good in midfield...I loved his corners
Mitch Cook,Alan Wright,Steve Harrison,Danny Coid..all excellent

I have a thing for left backs I think.

Gaz Evans was total class. Thought he was brilliant.
Mitch Cook was my first favourite player.
Loved both Hillsy and Tommy J.
Jimmy Husband I ** love.
Marc Bola was definitely the best player we had when we came back.
Crainey is just too obvious but he was outstanding.
Great shout for Evans - a great player who would have gone on to higher things had his career not been cut short with injury.
I too loved Tommy J - I'm not sure why but he was one of my favourites growing up.
Husband awesome too, our best full back last season.

The more I read your posts/blogs td53 the more I feel relieved that there is at least one other likeminded fan who sees things the same as I do:-
- Husband a great player ✔️
- Left backs generally being awesome ✔️
- Wor Gaz being an absolute legend ✔️

Can’t disagree with that TD apart from Gaz evans im slightly embarrassed to say I don’t remember him, Mitch Cook had a great right foot though, surprised you put husband in there but I agree, 6.30 tonight him , beesley & Carey we’re in nondos, personally I think they should have been at the game as nice as the chicken is,don’t know what spice level they had but let’s face it you can always bump it up with the sauces on the side, beesley didn’t have that plaster thing on his foot though so hopefully he’ll be fine to replace the “goal machine “ if needed, although I’m sure big G will do what he does best and…we’ll I don’t want to piss you off so I’ll leave it at that

Just an aside. The best full backs I've seen at Bloomfield Rd were Jimmy Armfield (many times) and Danny McGrain (once). I was in the Scratching shed for the 1983 charity game for the drowned police officers and dog owner. McGrain's speed of thought, movement and passing were amazing.
I remember McGrain in that game too, probably the best non-Blackpool player in a tangerine shirt I've seen. Tommy Burns was excellent as well, however, the one moment that stuck with me was Kenny Dalgleish nutmegging Paul Stewart with a back pass to the keeper!

Was Barry Shuttleworth a left back? (God thinking of Barry Shuttleworth made me remember Udo Onware)

Anyway, not Barry Shuttleworth. One more swashbuckling season and it might honestly be Jimmy Husband No. 1 although Crainey was absolutely immense and is no 1 for now.

For the last couple of decades it would be Crainey and added to the list of some great BFC players would just like to mention Tommy Garrett from the golden days of the fifties, he was playing for us when I first when to Bloomfield rroad in '49 and still playing frist division football when I was in the RAF, many years later.
I was going to include Tommy Garrett.

Didn’t Gaz Evans play in goal during a Tuesday night match ?

The Crainiac had it all.

Tommy J LB and Hillsy LM was a brilliant left side partnership.

Barrie Martin was the best I watched and with Armfield at right back, Gratrix, Hauser, and Hughie Kelly completing what was one of the best defences in the 1st Division.
In 1959 he replaced Tommy Garrett and Jackie Wright who we’re sharing the left back position to form a formidable partnership with Armfield.
Ended up running off with my mate’s wife!

Loved watched Bill Bentley. Bill was more a tanker than a yacht. Always remember one fan quip. Bill was stuck at the corner flag with his back to the pitch and 2 opponents behind him when the person next to me shouted "Bill, do a pirouette". Hilarious reaction from everyone.

Pretty sure he was in nets for our street party penalty shoot out at the 1977 Silver Jubilee. He lived up the road when players lived in same street as the fans.

👍 There was a house on Mossbourne road Poulton,Near Cottom Hall.

I remember loads of players stopping there. Steve was a local lad, his parents lived at Staining Road End

Grew up with every kick and injury of John Hills career - bloody loved him! Kind of forget he came back for a few games.
