Finally kicking into gear?

Has the disaster at Cheltenham become a catalyst for a playoff run?

It seemed like the team/coaching staff snapped into action yesterday. Lavery and Joseph were relentless, hubby and ekpiteta solid and subs were bang on.

First half wasn’t an easy watch but looking back I think we minimised the chances they had to where they couldn’t find the angles. The goal however from a set piece was disappointing.

Second half we battled and shut them down in the middle and just didn’t let them play. The work rate was so good they couldn’t live with us at times and the chances we created were promising.

To say we were against one of the best footballing sides in the division, surely we’ve finally cracked the code to consistency for the remainder.

We've been here before so many times this season and haven't backed up a good result.

The simple answer is who knows.
That’s what I mean, seems like they’ve had a fire lit under their arses this time and let’s hope it keeps burning. Watching the interviews after that performance just seems like the mentality has shifted to “a point to prove”.

Agree with what others have said above. We have to find a way of beating the 'ugly' sides. We have a couple of games now against decent opposition so I actually half fancy our chances. Beat Bolton and Orient and we are right in the mix.

There is very little wiggle room now though for those shitty away performances against physical teams. We have to find a way. No other choice.

Do I think we can? Yeah but going off past evidence I'm not confident that we will.

Some interesting results yesterday.

Charlton , who managed a draw with us, scoring three against Wonderers.

Yes they wondered how they had let three in.

Orient conceding two against the Brewers and losing perhaps that is the end of their climb up the table.

Oxford drawing again,

Stevenage continue with their shaky form and lose again.

We need to put a series of wins together , firstly to build confidence in the team and secondly, obviously, to reach the play offs.

Two seasons ago, Petrborough was the start of our fall from grace. Could we now have buried that curse?

Yes, I agree. Can we find a way of beating the hoofball teams when we are playing away from home? It's been an ongoing area of weakness for us. Cheltenham was the fourth (?) time it had happened this season and the most disappointing aspect was that we appeared to learn nothing from the previous attempts. So, if we do make the playoffs, Stevenage is the one team we may want to avoid....

He only pulls his finger out when the heat is on. He'll probably go back to his ultra conservative f'ing shite football. I hope not, though.

The way to best hoofball teams is NOT to try and play football against them. You defend in depth. After a while the Home support will start to get onto their backs at the lack of goalmouth action in what is a home games. They will eventually open up, and in the last hour, chances will come.

If we get in the playoffs, Stevenage won't be in them.

We’re doing this season the hard way. Can’t see any kind of run or momentum happening, just a painful inconsistent scrape into the play offs, if we manage it.

It’d probably need a near-Perfect-10 to get us over the line.

Do you see us pulling off what would be a genuine Great Escape - via promotion - from this Division?

I thought I saw HMS piss the league( do you remember that ?) off the coast at Anchorsholme last night but it turned out I had a bout of trapped wind - once evacuated it had gone .

You make it sound so easy, if only

In 2006/07 we were promoted to the Championship after fishing 3rd on 83 points and finishing the season with a run of 10 consecutive wins. You all know this, of course. However, it is also worth noting that in 2006/07 we also lost home and away to the two teams that finished the season in the bottom 2 places: Brentford and Rorherham. In February of that season we played 5 games resulting in L L D L W. in fact, it was as late as 27th March that we lost at home to Rotherham (0-1) before commencing our perfect 10 run in.

I hesitate to suggest that history repeats itself so precisely. Even so it is worth bearing these things in mind prior to prematurely throwing ourselves from the top of the Tower.

Which sums this division up, you can't take any team lightly.

It’s a win just like Barnsley and Portsmouth. Fully expect us to go back to being shit as that is what we do. What’s different about this win? The only thing I can think of is the midfield three. Perhaps that is now the foundation to build on.

I detect a hint of optimism there ATG.!
That's very unlike you.😮

This one was against Peterborough.

Cheltenham was our worst performance of the season. Sometimes after a defeat as bad as that one, teams can go on a good run.
That’s what I’m hoping will be the case anyway. It’s good to look forward.
