Fiorini / Lyons

looked good Fiorini. Showing for the ball and trying to get a cute pass off.

as someone else said - against a more accomplished midfield you wouldnt want Fiorrini and Patino. Too lightweight. QPR were shiiite btw.

And we need 3 teams to be shiiiter than us

We pushed them right into the corners and they struggled to get out with any composure. Loads of great performances tonight. It's also very clear that Lyons has a goal in him. As well as the ones he scored he brought one down second half, smashed it and the keeper only just got it over the bar.

Lyons is very calm in front of goal isnt he,especially for a full back.Brilliant awareness the way he picked out the bottom corner like that.Even the header he has picked his spot whilst being crowded out by some giant defenders. His goal against huddersfield felt like he had almost too much time to think about it,those ones usually fly way over the bar but he calmly struck it very well.Im still unclear on how good of a defender he is though, ive not seen anything negative yet but at the same time ive not really seen enough of him on the pitch to see how well he defends one on one.

I think he is wasted as a full back, let him play as a winger who tracks back

We had 38% of the ball tonight, doesn't matter if you're efficient and ruthless when you have it
Even at half time after that excellent 1st half our possession was still only 50%. The last 20 minutes we were happy to concede possession, get men behind the ball and manage the game out. The most interesting stats were the number of shots — Pool had 16 shots, 8 shots on target, QPR had 7 shots but only 2 shots on target, number of corners — Pool had 6 corners and scored from 2 of them, QPR only had 1 corner, number of Yellow cards — Pool had just 1 Yellow card (Yates), QPR had 3.

Both immense tonight
Frustrating that they’ve been kicking their heels for weeks when they should have been nailed on to start ( in Lyons case anywhere on the left or right )
Hopefully no more bench warming

We just need young Poveda to stop being an ars* now & add to that the return of big Marv. Both give MM good options.
Also Josh (we know what he's capable of) may choose to give his head a wobble & up his game, or Florist will look to off load him.

I thought everyone of them worked their socks off, subs included 👍 some great performances out there last night ! If you read this site lads we need that to the end of the season . Your livelihoods and the staff at the club depend on it ! Our well-being and lives depend on you also . UTMP

I thought CJ could have come for that ball too but overall both played really well.
It was a poor unnecessary ball, with limited chances of success- a classic 50/50 out of possession. CJ wouldn't have dreamt it was coming his way and was on his heels a bit. Just a bit of Fiorini getting caught up in the moment, entirely forgivable.

Great performance from everybody and great to see 'The Penny Drops'* with none of this bullshit keep it tight until the ref looks at his watch in the 97th minute and then go for it approach advocated by some.

* A thread from 2005 when Hendry finally played the right team in the right way and beat Bradford 2-1 (H) which was the first game I chose to miss, other than births, marriages, deaths etc since 1977, maybe 76.

Another note on Lyons, that's 3 goals for us, left foot, right foot and head.

I think we are starting to see why he had the reputation as a goal scoring full back/ wingback. The one he tucked home with his left was particularly well taken, even before you consider his off the ball movement and anticipation to be in that position. Very exciting signing.

I like Carey but I think we have only won 2 games all season with him starting in the team. We've won more than that with Fiorini starting and he's missed most of the season.

It's been obvious for months that a Carey / Patino partnership in midfield is not the right balance for our team or the Championship
I like Carey but think this season has come too soon for him. Not his fault, just down to injuries and the need to fill the squad out.

Just for balance, I'm sure the podcast picks Gabriel at right back every week, with Lyons on the left ,where we havn't seen him play yet.

Bad ball from Fiorini to set them off for their goal but apart from that he was superb. Lyons was outstanding tonight.
There were three mistakes that led to their goal, Fiorini's ball was too short, CJ didn't read the flight and therefore reacted too late and Husband went to ground and failed to get the ball giving the player too much time and space to get the cross in. That's football and had any one of those three not happened, we probably would have recorded a clean sheet.

Those errors aside, all three of those players had great games and played a huge part in a superb team performance.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the last time Patino and Fiorini played together was at QPR away when they both came off injured but prior to that were outstanding?
From what I've seen, Fiorini provides enough clout to allow Patino to be a little less exposed defensively. Add a third in there - a Connolly or a Dougall - and you have a good midfield. But in reality, the combinations have never been available for anything more than a handful of games. Why that is, who knows.

Best mate is Tangerine so I get the whole 'Lyons is quality' all the time.

Didn't want to believe it to be honest. but think you've got a bit of a gem with him. Movement seems to be really good for a defender and anticipates where the ball is going to be which doesn't come a long often. Seems solid defensively too.

I have nightmares with the utter shite we have signed from Ireland (Graham Burke, Kevin O'Connor, Andy Boyle - shivers) so I didn't think Lyons would come good. Good spot.

Still will get rinsed by Alvaro on the 1st April though x
