First billion pound player. When?

When will someone pay a billion for a player?

Willie Groves, first player over £100 in 1880s
Dennis Law was £110,000 in 1961
Trevor Francis, £1,000,000 in 1979
Jean-Pierre Papin, £10,000,000 in 1992
Recently the £100,000,000 fee has been surpassed with Grealish, Rice etc,
And now Saudi money is sending prices up into the stratosphere...
...I just hope they offer a billion for Dembele after a great, promotion winning season in league 1

Honestly, I can imagine it will happen in my lifetime (sadly, not the Dembele bit though).

As I said on another thread, the Arab States are ruining the game.
Money is nothing to them, they just throw it at anything/anybody they want.
The salaries they offer are through the roof.
Will they eventually get fed up of it?
I sincerely hope so.

As long as their influence continues to expand they'll keep spending.
As long as they are given rights to control golf, host world cups (money having influenced that decision, no doubt) etc. they will use continue to use their unlimited resources in the way that suits their ambitions, sadly for our game.

It will be interesting to see if uefa allow Saudi team in the champions League.

Sadly, money talks.

11.36 in the year 2046 August on a Tuesday probably, could be Wednesday I haven't checked.

I think we should employ Mickey Bricks from the Hustle to promote CJ as being the best winger in the world, and get him to convince the Saudi's to buy him for £1bn.
