Football Focus interview

Hi everyone

Jane and I were contacted by the BBC on Monday to see if we would give an interview for Football Focus today prior to the FA Cup game this Saturday.

They wanted to know about the Glory days of the Matthews era, the battle with the O's and how we are feeling about our new owner.

I decided I would try and make a behind the scenes video to show you any of you that are interested in that sort of thing.🙂

However, the storm came in really strong midway through our interview! I managed to have a little chat with the crew under shelter of a tram stop, which you can see but, we had to call it a day as a second wave of icy rain came in, my hands had turned to blocks of ice and Jane had totally had enough.

Anyway for those of you who would like to see a bit of the behind the scenes stuff hope you enjoy it.

Great piece and credit to all those involved because it told the story perfectly and showed just how much we value the history of the club.
It's great now that we don't get any balancing up from the Oystons in the media, they are shown up for what they are and were and are gone forever.

The producer did a great job in appalling weather conditions
He's just said on the WhatsApp group that Dan and Leon ( the show presenters ) have said it's the best piece of the week

Just tried to watch it on I player, the programmes before and after it are available but weirdly not Football Focus 😕

I thought it was awful really. Could TAM not have avoided the "rollercoaster" word? And do we have to have a picture of the bloody Tower every time? Usual lazy rubbish from the BBC.

Sorry to disappoint
To be honest I’ve done numerous interviews over the NAPM years where I was desperate to get the message across and often had it heavily edited
Thursday was pleasurable as there was no need to convey a specific point across although as always the producer edits 10 mins of comments down to 1 min to create what he’s looking for
Yes I used ‘ rollercoaster ‘ ( possibly for the first time ever as I’m not a great fan either ) but sometimes you’ve got to think about the audience It wasn’t aimed at us
It was all about conveying a positive image of Blackpool and I think the object was achieved

That's fair enough TAM, and I'm not really upset with you, you are far better at this stuff than I would ever be.

I just think football coverage on the BBC is garbage, and has been for a long time.

Of course you entitled to your opinion coppice, but how you can be negative about the feature is beyond me. What would you have done or said?

To be fair its what draws in the TV coverage-puns galore but in essence its free publicity. The BBC did it with the Cods a few years ago and it was a tad embarrassing -I think they held it in Jims bar- but otherwise there wouldnt be the coverage.

Our town is usually the last to get anything which is why I pushed at the FSA AGM last year to have its big meeting here, but (covid apart) this was never supported by the BST people there and wasnt included in their minutes today.

I just turned on a clip of it and the soundtrack was the Smiths “everyday is like Sunday”. And at that point I turned it off again. Anyone who says I didn’t give it a chance is right. I don’t watch enough of this sort of stuff to know whether if they go to a post industrial Midlands town or city they play music which involves a snidey pop at those towns.

But if i am going to give my time to the game outside of the actual watching of games, then I would rather spend my time either dipping into avftt or reading the likes of td53s very good blogs. The vast majority of TV channels coverage outside of the games is pretty generic and stereotypical. I will give the BBC some credit for the mental health and football work and BT for some of their documentaries.

Was great to see us get a piece on TV that wasn't about us being a crisis club, glad that we're now being advertised as a club on the up to the rest of the country.

I just wish they'd avoided all the usual rubbish. They could have talked about how Critchley is finding it, what it is like for the new owner taking it on when there is no money (maybe interview him or Brett G.). Maybe cover the 80k raised for the kids at Xmas. Lots of things they could have thought about. But they never do think about it.

Can't speak for the others but in my ten min interview I spoke about Critch / the transition we are going through as a team / our formation and more on Simon's ownership

What they then use is up to them

I still think it was a decent piece - as detailed above is was good to speak positively about the club

Yes it did start with Morrissey but equally it switched to more upbeat music half way through as we moved onto talk about the ownership change
