Fylde Coast pubs/clubs gone

Always gutted when I come back from Manchester and see the tiny, unused car park that they replaced Scrooges with. What an absolute waste.

Many a Thursday night spent in there. The older generation remember it as a wine bar but it was the indie music bar for me when I was going!

I thought the Vic was closed.
Waiting for new owners or something.
The old landlord posted on Facebook saying they'd left because of poor pay and the rules that Samuel Smith were imposing. Basically they got paid £18,000 a year for both him and his wife and wern't allowed to have another job or form of income. Then the rules got tighter and tighter to the point where if anyone even had their mobiles out then they were to be immediately and permanently barred. The owner of Samuel Smith would even pop in unannounced to check they were enforcing the rules and if they weren't he would go mental screaming in their faces. That's why they can't get another manager for it and it's shut.

Fuck me, I used work there as wine waiter upstairs as youngster and it was my second job at the time. Are you saying that the customers are not allowed mobiles in the pub? I kinda like the idea but sounds like Sam Smiths management need a bit of a rethink…

Looks like the Winmarith/Burlington/Spen Dyke has finally expired after years of decline. Shame as it was a thriving busy place back in the late 70/80s. Times have changed & the Arnold under aged element have also now gone. There was still quite a few going in even in the 90s but the place was going down hill. Pub culture has changed & this place looks destined for another use or demolition. It's a big place spread over 4 floors, last time I saw it packed was when they probably illegally showed the Blackpool games on many screens when we were in the Premier league & they even had a van in the car park with a screen at the back. Sadly over the last 5 years when I've occasionally popped in for a swift one on my way home from the matches there've been more staff than customers, they seemed to try during Covid with outside seating, but after that it was quiet inside. So I'm not surprised it's closed.
Winmarith was my second home as a youngster. Bought a flat on Burlington road so I was always close. A few of us set up Winmarith FC and played in the Sunday Alliance for a few seasons. Home ground was Common Edge or Palatine school.

Local derby’s with Highfield Social were tasty affairs.

They can have them, but they have to be on silent and have to be in a pocket or bag so they can't be seen. You can't even have it out to text someone back or read if you're on your own. I get having them on silent, but not even being able to read the news whilst having a quiet pint is too far, then getting a permanent ban if you do.

Well the rubble is still lying there 30 years on from it being demolished.
Mariners was only closed in 2007 and demolished about a year later following a fire! Thought it would have been much earlier than that. As been mentioned thought this site would have been developed by now, prime spot!

Used to be quite an easy little triple pub circuit including the Ramsden. Can remember if it was the wheatsheaf or the Kings that did Old Peculiar on draft. Went down to well & the frostiness the following morning from an ex was due to me peeing into the calor gas heater. Think the lid resembled a toilet lid in my drunken stupor.
The Kings Arms became the Flying Handbag before it got knocked down

Good story, as to why it was called the Flying Handbag.

To cut a long story short, 2 sisters had an aeroplane accident in 1935 which crashed around Swainson Street, Blackpool
The 2 sisters and the pilot sadly died. Years later a handbag was found on a roof in Swainson Street and it was believed
to belong to one of the sisters, who had been thrown from the plane, just before it crashed.
The Kings arms was very close to the crash site, hence the name change to Flying Handbag

Jaffa doesn't like next door neighbours from a foreign country so I don't know how he would cope living in close proximity to a supernatural being from another dimension!!
Really?
Since I moved I’ve got a Jock couple living next door couldn’t wish for better neighbours.
So I’d say you are wrong (again)

Scottish are hardly foreign are they, happy for you that they aren't Romanian or Muslim. I was only having a little joke about it, no offence intended, I'm sure you and the supreme creator will get on fine for eternity and let's hope it isn't any time soon👍

Had a snooker table as well. There was a shop opposite that served Old Peculiar I think it was and you could (illegally) sit outside with your pint. Cheaper than the Falcon too.
Maybe it's a good separate thread - pubs with good snooker tables.

In Poulton centre I spent many a happy time in the vaults of the Barn (Bull?), although the pockets there were really tight.

Sadly wasn't for very long, but Poulton social club (now the Elk) when it first changed to a normal pub kept the two full size tables from the SC days. Add in the rather good jukebox and the Ruddles County it served and you have a great contender for the award

The Victoria Hotel, Cleveleys. Local at the end of the road when growing up. Cheap rocket fuel beer! Fish guy doing the rounds on a Friday night. Shame brewery owner ruined the Sam Smiths chain with his silly whims & rules.

Little mention for the Municipal Arms (Wyre Lounge Bar) in Fleetwood. Great pub & started my love of proper beer.
Blimey, I used to go there with my mates, I went in when I came back home in 2915 and it was dire in there.

I remember it serving Ruddles because nowhere else did. The Barn and The Queens always looked a bit too dodgy for me. The GBH had a small table in the vaults I think.

Many, many years ago, the Dolphin bar and Queens disco in Cleveleys, the Vic Cleveleys, the Durban, The Royal, the Sporting Club, Fleetwood, Trader Jacks, Brian Londons 007 club

Ah yes. My 6th form common room. I thought it was going to work as the Spen Dyke. Obviously not. Great memories though.

Nooooo?? Really?? Feels like it's been rubble there since I was a kid. 2007? I don't think that's right.

My dad used to go there every friday when i was a kid but i never went there myself.
I don't blame you, it was a shit pub really although I did do quite well with the LAIDIES when I worked there, the worst bit about it was it had a kids bar and I ** hate kids in pubs!!

It was developed in the 70s, new owners no doubt, and became a crappy family pub type of thing. To be avoided. I was always gutted i missed out narrowly on the old fairhaven, and the Bodds it sold. My bodds drinking was done in the vic and the county. The Lytham pubs all got done up in the 80s, and ruined, in my opinion! A whole sort of thatcher yuppy culture took over, so I upped sticks and moved to London! Plenty of choice. Then on to manchester.

The Victoria ?
Was a regular in there from about 1992 until around 2005 when the brewery made the landlord get rid of the tv !
Went in between lockdowns in 2020, to be told the tenner id given wasn’t enough for 2 beers !

The Vic was a place I'd call into. The snooker room was a BFC shrine.

The Blossoms? They used to sell both and I worked behind the bar there in the early 80's
I can't remember CE being in there. I went in from about '88. Must say it has to be well over 10 years, probably a lot longer since I went in. The had a random picture of Howth Head (North of Dublin) as you entered the Gents.

Some joke. 🤷‍♂️
Why don’t you just come out and say you think I’m a racist just because I can pick and choose who I want to live next door to?
I’m a grown man and I’m used to it now.
Shame only you can turn a thread about old pubs on the Fylde coast into racist rant completely off topic so well done for that.

The Hole In One. Apparently the only pub in Lytham that was built to be a pub, had a Crossroads Motel feel, and is soon to be flats. I went in there a few times in the 80s, I think they served Castle Eden and Whitbread Trophy iirc?
Popped in there a few lunch times , when I worked at GRE .

That’s interesting, would have bet on The Queens, The County, Ship & Royal & Handsome Cab all being pubs from build. Any further on the history of these establishments?

I bought my very first pint of Bods in the vaults at the old Fairhaven from Edna the hunchback barmaid, it was 12p!! Cracking old pub and ruined by the new build although Sam Ellis used to drink in there every night, I loved the Vic too

Queens, County, Ship & Royal definitely built primarily as hotels. Hansom Cab presumably the same. Got the info from the FB page called Lytham's Past.

My brother was a Fairhaven regular for a few years in the 70s. He loved it and used to bang on about the Boddies.

Funny how The Barn just seemed to be the vaults of the Bull or visa versa but they were named as distinctly 2 separate pubs?

What, The Vic’s prices were as cheapest around! You must have asked for crisps as well for it to be over a tenner!
