Gabriel fee

Said the other day that the £300K fee being quoted was low, particularly as they tied him to down to a long term deal before loaning him to us last season (compare and contrast with Embleton).

They'll be playing hardball whilst they're trying to bring a right back in. The price will end up between the two amounts.

How important he could be depends on whether we play 3CB's or not. In a 5 he'd be a very good addition, but that really on applies if the 3 work- they may not. In a 4, I just don't think he was there last year, so it's hard to see him being suddenly up to it. So you'd need 2 good RB's- him for a 3cb and 1 for a 4.

Money

He has bags of potential and I hope we sign him, but I agree with Scara, can't see us spending a million on him, but I can see £300 - £400k plus add ons.
I said in a previous thread that I'd like to see him back here.
Agree with the 300 to 400 k plus add ons, which would mostly remove the risk of paying over the odds for a player who may or may not get a lot of games (I think he would). After all he was sent on loan by them last season, so 600k should only be regarded as either their opening position or a piss take. 300 to 400k quite realistic imo
At least we're hearing about a price range, rather than hearing they might not consider selling him at all, so a bit of progress.

Seems more cost effective to me to invest in goal scorers and championship experience. Loan a right back or look for an OOC. That's what happened with left backs last year and now there's loads of those on the books where the overheads are on contract length only and any sale is a profit.

Let's be honest we are used to an offer of £100k plus a years supply of out of date Gatorade as an add on in the old days, or a bid of £600k and then offer him £1k a week on a 1+1 contract, knowing they would never get any deal over the line!

Hence the guy on trial from Leicester. Wednesday wanted him, but wouldn't pay the £300k Leicester wanted.

Transfer fees are that ridiculous these days I'm not sure what is too much and what isn't in the grand scheme of things

Some people need to get their heads out of the sand with this one; we are not going to be able to get quality players for cheap and there won't be better players for that price, otherwise we would have already signed them.

Gabriel is a young, athletic, and talented player in a position we desperately need.

500k-1 Million for him would be a steal.

Herts, Is that selling - definitely do a deal for ANYONE going out at that - or buying? No chance we would ever have BOUGHT anyone, let alone buying at £100K! well not without Belokon money anyways.

Actually it could apply to both!! 🙈

Their favourite trick was offering the going rate, get the player in for talks and offer really shit terms so the deals fell through but it looked like they were going for good players. It's incredible, that over the years, we got so many players who shone in the face of adversity!!

They have this lad in Mitch Clarke, looks decent to me and worth taking a closer look. If we are to
spend half a million or more it should be a striker.

The lad has plenty of potential and would be a valuable asset. We can’t mess around in that position and for me, he’s worth every penny of £750k. I don’t see how we can lose at that money.

There is a fine balance and we cannot afford to throw money around, but at the same time this is the Championship and you can’t do it on the cheap. The way we play, full back / wing back is a key position.

It’s the Championship, this lad has been at a PL club but was on loan 3 times at the same Div 2 club. If he’s at the level now, he would have attracted other attention and wouldn’t be a trialist. He’s one to take on a risk free gamble, not starting in the second tier.

I’m guessing that being Championship is around £3m extra revenue plus TV money less spiralling wage demands.

Doesn’t give a lot more for transfer fees?

There is such irony in posters saying "WHAAATTT, he's not woth that!!!" for a player yet shout down anyone who thinks the ticket prices are too high.
Ticket prices are ticket prices, there's f all we can do about them. I've never been that fussed about them since the Anglo Italian cup! But some like to go, particularly the away games as it's a bit of a summer social on the lash.

At the end of the day re transfer fees, we are all just speculating. If Critch wants Embo and Gabriel and SS is happy to negotiate the fees with the respective clubs then we will either nail them or not. I have no idea how much SS is willing to spend, but he won't be bullied into paying above a players value.

For his age and potential, £600K seems decent value. If he even has half a decent season we'd double our money. The key factors are the lads attitude, by all accounts very good and Critchley's view. Sadler seems the sort to take a calculated risk and back his man, I think it'll happen as soon as Forest bring in their target.

We switch systems a lot so he will be needed.

If they want 600k give it them. It may be a risk, but being a young English full back the way the modern game is, with the pace and power he possesses one good season in the championship and he’s immediately worth well over a million.

Yep. If you're going to bet on a player coming good and making you a tidy profit, bet on an athlete.

Disagree completely. Sometimes you have to walk away from a deal if the selling club are taking the piss. Remember Gabriel only started 18 games for us. He spent most of his time on the bench. He has some ability but defensively he’s got a lot to learn. For Forest to want that price or anywhere near it, is a huge piss take.
If Forest have a £1m fullback he plays week in week out for them, they don’t flog him to a rival.
We won’t and shouldn’t pay anymore than £300-400k

From what I’ve seen in those games, he’s worth significantly more than £300-400k. It simply seems that at Forest he doesn’t quite fit with the regime and what they are looking for. There are many many players at all levels, some worth multi millions that don’t fit. It doesn’t mean they are sold cheaply.

Yet Critch only started him 18 times in League One. I’m not even sure he thinks he’s a first choice Championship right back. He’d get turned inside out by some of the wingers we’re going to face. I’d rather see larger fees paid for match winners.
I like Mitch Clark’s pedigree, he has loads of ability and he’d cost around £300k

I’d argue that appearances last season were more down to how we set up, and that Turton edged the starting position. The lad has pace and lots of ability, and he’s not yet the finished player.

I don’t see what you see in Clarke’s pedigree.

As for spending money on match winners, it’s pointless without the right defensive base.
