I am OK with this. Probably won’t win a trophy, but at least it hasn’t been an embarrassment so far.
. What’s the definition of insanity again?I am OK with this. Probably won’t win a trophy, but at least it hasn’t been an embarrassment so far.
It's also the money PL managers are now on Southgate 5 million.. What’s the definition of insanity again?
In reality there’s no one to replace him. I hate the idea of a non Englishman managing us.
Howe or Potter won’t leave the PL at this juncture in their careers.
More of the same at the Euros then.
He just needs know his best team and let them play freely. He’s done very well since his appointment, but I just fear he bottles it when things get tough or challenging. Stability is what’s needed, so the right decision all round!Right result.
Our progress since before Gareth should be how we measure his performance, and for me that’s a no brainer.
Getting within a penalty shootout of winning it?. What’s the definition of insanity again?

They said that in 2000.You can’t argue that the guy has done well, but this is the best group of England players in ages who could be amazing with really top manager.
He's won more knockout games than every single other manager combined for the past 50 years, bit of an odd post.Hes a thoroughly nice chap, thats what the FA are only interested in. Winning football games is secondary..
Who's this really top manager to come in?You can’t argue that the guy has done well, but this is the best group of England players in ages who could be amazing with really top manager.
I agree. Not a problem with this. It feels like we are on the cusp of winning something. Of course, it's always the hope that fucks you over and this is England we're talking about, but yeah, Gareth has done alright.
But on the flipside loses when it matters. Italy were average, France had three key players missing from the team. I'm OK with him staying as I don't see a viable replacement but he needs to show a tad more adventure. He's won more knockout games than every single other manager combined for the past 50 years, bit of an odd post.
It’s ultimately a results business, you can’t argue with the uptick he’s created surrounding the National team. But Jesus, it was at such a low ebb through a succession of disasters I’m not sure I can hand out a load of praise for getting us back to normal.Getting within a penalty shootout of winning it?
Better than any other fucker has done for 56 years.
I'd put him below Robson, Venables and Hoddle personally.Best England manager since Sir Alf Ramsey. His squad is young and talented and could well progress to succes.
My choice, for what that’s worth, would be TuchelWho's this really top manager to come in?
No thanks. England manager has to be English.Tuchel
Ideally yeah, but then that pool is incredibly shallow let’s be honest. No thanks. England manager has to be English.
You'd not have Robson up there until 1990, kept Barnes off until it was too late 86, 88 was a disaster and even in 1990 we beat an average Belgium with a last minute goal and scraped past Cameroon thanks to some creative Lineker diving.I'd put him below Robson, Venables and Hoddle personally.
I'm not going off record particularly. I'm going off style of football (Venables and Hoddle were better). I was a big defender of Southgate but let's be honest, his style of play in the last WC and Euros was poor, had the easiest run of any England manager to get to the latter stages of tournaments so I don't think it's a ridiculous statement to put those ahead of him. What he does well is squad harmony and get the press on board, that should be a given for any England manager but it does show how bad previous appointments were. You'd not have Robson up there until 1990, kept Barnes off until it was too late 86, 88 was a disaster and even in 1990 we beat an average Belgium with a last minute goal and scraped past Cameroon thanks to some creative Lineker diving.
Venables had one tournament, one good performance against the Dutch and that was it, Switzerland and Spain were awful performances, so was the first half against Scotland.
Hoddle had one tournament and managed to piss off half his squad before going out in his first knockout game.
Ridiculous to put those three ahead of Southgate on record alone, no logic to it at all.
He didn't have an easier run at all, our last two semis before Southgate were 1990 and 96, we beat Belgium after extra time, Cameroon and a pre success Spain side on penalties.I'm not going off record particularly. Not forgetting Bobby Robson failed to get us to Euro 84!You'd not have Robson up there until 1990, kept Barnes off until it was too late 86, 88 was a disaster and even in 1990 we beat an average Belgium with a last minute goal and scraped past Cameroon thanks to some creative Lineker diving.

Are you saying we have beaten better sides in knock out football under Southgate than Belgium and Cameroon in 90 and Spain in 96? I'm struggling to think of one. Euro 20 we beat a terrible German team, Denmark and Ukraine. 2018 columbia and Sweden? All open to opinion I suppose. He didn't have an easier run at all, our last two semis before Southgate were 1990 and 96, we beat Belgium after extra time, Cameroon and a pre success Spain side on penalties.
But you said he had 'the easiest' route, the Belgian, Spanish and Cameroon teams were all worse then the German team we beat last year, saying anything else is just daft, let's not forget we also beat the same Croatian team who have just got to another WC semi final. Belgium didn't qualify for Euro 92 and the Spanish team didn't even get out of their group in 98.Are you saying we have beaten better sides in knock out football under Southgate than Belgium and Cameroon in 90 and Spain in 96? The Belgium, Cameroon and Spanish teams worse than the Germans we best in euro 2020 laugh my ass offBut you said he had 'the easiest' route, the Belgian, Spanish and Cameroon teams were all worse then the German team we beat last year, saying anything else is just daft, let's not forget we also beat the same Croatian team who have just got to another WC semi final. It's complete nonsense to suggest they were harder routes. Venables and Hoddle didn't win a single knockout game in normal or extra time.
If Southgate had the tournament Robson did in 88 you'd be calling for his head on a spike.
Don't forget that in 1990 and 96 we probably had the best squads in the tournament as well, who was better?
The arguments against Southgate are complete and utter bollocks.
They were, laugh your ass off as much as you want but do look at the stats while you're at it.The Belgium, Cameroon and Spanish teams worse than the Germans we best in euro 2020 laugh my ass off
