Garrity and Brunskill confirmed assistants.

I'm just going to wait and see how the first 10 games go and before that who we bring in to the squad. Quitch was a "Meh" appointment for me as were his assistant appointments but I think Sadler is a bit of an anorak, peas are green sort of bloke so I didn't expect anything else. It could have been worse, it could have been better, it certainly could have been a bit more phwoooar! It is what it is, a bit dull but it could work, it could be a disaster, we have no idea now but we will know by Christmas at the latest snd I hope we are in the top 6 by then, If we are struggling down the wrong end of the table then the hunt will be on for another manager, but who knows.

That's an easy thing for a grumpy old man to say! 😆

Peas ARE green. 👍
But Sadler doesn’t have the vision to nurture them, cook them nicely and then stick some mint on them and shift then for four quid a go alongside grilled chicken at Nandos and grow the business. He just buys them cheap and sells them a bit dearer to someone else to deliver the finished product and congratulate himself on the marginmoney made, and then he moves on to courgettes! Or summat. And then goes back to peas again if it doesn’t work out.

Underwhelming but good luck to the new (old) team.
Yeah it's not exactly one to get fans really excited but let's hope it works. Seems to have been a lukewarm reaction.

It does have its benefits too and hopefully we can hit the ground running.

We’ve reappointed a successful management team and have pretty much the same tools available for them as the day they left. They know the club and players. They’ve all gained a year of experience and one of which was coaching in League 1 last season so knows the league well. We’ve also just appointed a Sporting Director with a great knowledge of players needed to get promotion from League 1 too.

What’s not to like ?

Peas or something.

That’s actually complete bullshit, but ‘perception’ always trumps facts on AVFTT 👍
I stand to be corrected, but we finished the season horrendously post international break. Just a quick look we won only 2 of our final 9 games of that season, playing woefully away at Preston from memory, and losing to relegated Derby and Peterborough. I'm not saying it's down to Brunskill, that would be unfair, but as others have said, you look at periods where Critchley hasn't had Calderwood / McCall as experience and they seem to be our worst runs. Start of League one season until hiring of Calderwood and then end of Championship season. Then you can look at how QPR went for Critch with both Garrity and Brunskill taken with him, 1 win in how many?

It's hard to judge with such a small sample size in reality, could well just be coincidence, but lets see how we start next season and hope it is just coincidence!

The sporting director seems a decent one and from a MASSIVE club.

Like many I wasn't mad about going back again, however once appointed I came round to it and can see the merit.

I think you have to accept that for some going back isn't as exciting and won't have people as excited as they were about Dobbie for eg. Not saying he would do as well we don't know how anyone will do.

Anyway as shown above if we see some good winning football and moments like that at Bristol City, people will soon be buzzing again.

We ditched them once after Critchley left us as they were not deemed worthy of keeping, what has changed?
Every Manager wants his own men, they left on good terms but Apples was never going to work with Critch’s men.

It’s a logical and common sense appointment but requires a strong no 2 too hopefully 🤞 🍊🧡⚽👍
It’s good to surround yourself with a team you trust especially when rightly or wrongly there’s more pressure.

Hopefully they have all learned a lot since last time from their experiences since leaving. It's good that we have the team in place nice and early so they can crack on ready for pre season. I think we'll do well, we've got the bones of a decent squad, will surely add some quality too.

The whole new management team according to half of this board especially one or two people, may as well accept it and be positive about the upcoming season and see where it takes us, some attention seeker has already started a thread moaning about the new coaching team

I don't think NC is daft and will have learned from experience that tactics will need to be varied and adapt, as required. I found it interesting when McCall came to the club he commented how much he had learned in terms new approaches from NC.
The really critical elements for NC and his staff will be the quality and depth of the squad they have available and crucial to that will be the the funds available from Sadler and the right contacts and approach from the Sporting Director, scouts and the Chief Operating Officer in finding those players and getting those deals done. Any club would face challenges having been relegated, in terms of a reduction of income, a loss of players and new players and staff all to gel. Teams rarely go back up at the first time of asking and this is a tough division to get out of.
So, I have a mix of both optimism and realism about the next couple of years. Time will tell, and some patience at times may be required. Sadler has acted quickly to get decent backroom staff in place early, so that ticks a box for me. The next will be the reshaping and strengthening of the squad, which will tell us fans about the intent of SS and NC. For me that should be a mix of experienced pros, promising players from lower divisions and bringing on the best from our development / youth squads. I have previously posted that the whole spine of the team needed strengthening from goal keepers, centre backs, central midfield (including a ball player that we have lacked in recent seasons) and strikers to put away chances we make.
And if there is finally some actions on the training ground and East stand then that would indeed show that the club is back on track.
Keep the faith and UTP

I hate to say it but these three have an awful lot to prove…but hopefully they do.
That's a hell of a negative spin. NC and MG spent 2 years with us in which we got promoted and then established ourselves in the Championship on a tight budget. NCs first ever head coach position and MGs first as assistant. We went to pieces after they left.

Garrity had 13 years at Liverpool. Critch had about 10 years at Crewe and 7 years at Liverpool.

IB came in as a no.3 for the last 15 ish games of those 2 years and has a pretty solid CV in a player development role in England and abroad. Ten years in Liverpool's academy, 4 years at Rovers, a few years in China, 2 years in Jordan with their U23s.

If you forget their QPR spell its hard to find negatives. And i think judging them on that 12 game spell is unwise given the struggles they had all season under 3 different head coaches.

I would argue that Calderwood and McCall came to Blackpool in order to learn as much as to mentor. The success of Liverpool under Klopp had been pretty remarkable and working with NC was a great opportunity to observe the methods. They've both been promoted since leaving. A different spin but we choose our own perceptions.

I would have liked a fresh start under Dobbie but he's not proved anything yet. And he's still at the club and in a position to learn and maybe even influence things. I'm sure NC is smart enough to use Dobbs' skills and experience as an attacking player and there will be joint first team / dev squad sessions i would hope.

Theres also scope to bring in an old head again if NC wants it. He wants to succeed. He'll use whatever he can to achieve success. He's done it before.

Agree on the stats. When Brunskill joined we went on our worst run of the season. He also took both to QPR and failed.

Whenever Critchley went on his best runs with us, he had experience in either Calderwood or McCall on his backroom staff.
With Calderwood's presence, in particular, contributing to an extraordinary turnaround in fortunes. A feat he has played a significant part in again this season as a backroom member of the training staff at newly promoted Northampton Town, who will be joining us for the 2023/4 season in Division One.

Are you absolutely sure about that? Because I can't say I'm entirely convinced they have...
4 out of 7 recent head coach appointments having previous managerial experience at BFC.
Critchley brings back people he feels comfortable with and we need a keeper.

Been on holiday all week and so am only just catching up on this news.
The reaction is not surprising as I think we will forget how much antimony there still is to Neil Critchley until we have a bad start to the season!

So many words, so little meaning. Have you ever read a post back that you’ve typed out and thought. “maybe I won’t post that’?
