Gary Bowyer has left Dundee.

Would he not want to bring this Billy Barr chap with him as nr 2?

Does anyone know much about BB?

FWIW, the Daily Record says quite categorically that Bowyer "is moving back to England in order to take on the reins at Blackpool"

Nothing would surprise me, but is this just the paper putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5?
I can't see why we would appoint a manager before appointing a sporting director, and I'd be surprised to see SS go down the route of yet another former manager given that none have worked out well so far.
Matt Scrafton has said there hasn't been any contact, and I suspect the paper has just looked at the odds, seen he's a former manager and made an inaccurate, unsubstantiated comment (it's not like a tabloid to do that!)

2+2 does not necessarily equal five

(Reading between the lines it appears he wasn’t happy about contracts being run down and wanted to spend this summer; they thought he should’ve won the league by more 🤷‍♂️)

Nixon says definitely a contender, Scrafton says there’s been no contact. So 🤷‍♂️

Good god no. Utterly dreadful appointments if he got it. Been sacked pretty much everywhere he’s ever been look at his bloody record. Has absolutely no charisma. Sure he’s probably a decent bloke but good god please no!!!!

Yes sorry mate a typo. I think it was a hotel bill if memory serves me but he certainly chipped in out of his own pocket which suggests he felt more for the club than the owners.
I heard rumours he paid for hiring training pitches elsewhere as Squires Gate was in a bad condition ( 2018 summer was very hot and dry).Dunno if true but i can believe it.

Yes that’s it! I knew there was something. Think it was on the outskirts of Preston. Hope he gets the job. He can finally continue what he started in a much better environment an a good playing surface as and real supporters.

Bowyer is not the manager i would choose, but he is also a long way from being the bottom of the list of who i would want to manage us. He did a decent job the last time he was here and by all accounts he is a decent bloke who builds a bond with his players and gets them to perform.

I would beg to differ as he got us promoted and Dundee. Scottish L1 is about the same level at the higher end.
He got us promoted from League Two and the Scottish 2nd division has semi professional football clubs playing in it so is probably closer to the National League than League Two in standards. Failed everywhere else.

He's done nowt in League One, similar to how Appleton had done nowt in the Championship. It's a manager we've had before under the Oyston's, that is lacking in any charisma.

It's the opposite of the sort of appointment needed after an awful season in terms of decisions made by the board. We need what looks like a forward thinking, positive appointment.

Sacked at Bradford, but took over when they were all but relegated, but he impressed and was given a 4yr contract. It didn’t work out in his first full season there.

At Salford they were replacing managers for fun, and it’s widely thought they acted in haste. They just missed out on the play-offs and his win % there was just under 48%.

Blackburn, again not a stable club.

Many great and successful managers get sacked.

Blackpool promoted at a very difficult time and he faced down the O’s.

Dundee promoted with just 1 permanent signing this season and off-field distractions. He was on a rolling 1 year contract, so he’s walked away.

You mention charisma, that’s a personal opinion and it’s not a requirement to be a successful manager. Many would say King Billy lacked charisma, but he did the right things.

It’s the Scottish championship you disrespectful clown. every club is Professional and half the players in that league are on more than Blackpool pay!! would you say Blackpool are now in the conference ? As for charisma have you had a pint with him? Nah😂

I watched Pool at Wycombe a few years ago , in what I think was the first match of the season. Gary left just after that game to go elsewhere ( can’t remember where). I DO remember that fantastic 3-3 draw at Luton in the Play-Off S/F with GB in charge.
I’ve always thought that he just right for Pool, and He with Dobs would be a good combination.

I thought sheff wed guy was taking over as sporting director 🤷
one Other note , Gary has always been manger , was last time he was here , so would he again and if yes , means Simon is moving away of appointing a first team coach, like critchley was and appleton was

I prefer a manger , means they buy the players , not us as a club and gives a coach to work with a set of players

Arbroath are semi professional, I thought it was more than that to be fair. But the standard is definitely no higher than League Two. The fact it has a semi professional club in it that finished above two teams says everything about the standard. Your comparisons don't really make any sense.

And charisma just relates to how they present themselves as a manager. I have no idea who is better to go for a pint with, Holloway or Bowyer but I can tell you which one is a more charismatic football manager.

That doesn't mean I want Holloway either, as charisma means fuck all really in terms of success and I'd have the most boring bloke going if we'd walk the league with him, it was drawing the comparison of how Appleton wasn't well received for being dour and Bowyer isn't the most charismatic himself. We need someone we can buy into either in terms of success or charisma (preferably both), Bowyer doesn't have either at this level IMO.
