Gary Madine

Big changed required in this summer for me, otherwise it’ll be us jumping up and down come the end of season signing “jump around if you’re going down”

The difference between Lavery & Beesley and Lavery & Madine is significant. One is a mobile partnership.

There are games for Gaz, but Critch’s obsession with him is hard to fathom. He cannot adopt the same approach next season. Let’s see what Critch has in the locker tactically.

Jerry, well I just have to accept that he’s unlikely to be here next season. A sad & remarkable turn of events.

He's been superb this season but his messing around trying to be clever and give Keogh the ball to take the penalty was absurd, firstly he should be wanting to score as many goals as possible and secondly Keogh told him in no uncertain times to get on with it. He never set himself up properly then and probably cost us the game. Critch and the other players should all give him an all mighty blocking, he may have thought it was a good idea but it was a terrible one and as well as not scoring Husband ended up getting injured just after which he wouldn't have done had he just done what he is paid to do. Give it to Jerry, yes, he's the number one penalty taker, but Keogh? FFS, really!!

That would almost be criminal, I love Jerry and he should be playing in front of Lavery, he's a much better all round player. I'd love to see him partner Beesley from the start.
I posted about his selection in the u23 match v Liverpool. It didn’t look right then, and what we’ve since indicates a problem. Who knows what that problem is, but Jerry has fallen from grace with Critch.

He was just fantastic last season and his partnership with Simms was something I was hoping would be a permanent fixture. If Jerry and Thorniley go in the summer then we will be the losers for that, both players worthy of playing from the start.

No...I disagree! Penalty apart I thought Madine did well. He'd obviously been asked to play head ons and they worked. What happened after he'd headed on is not his problem. He also held the ball up well and laid off well. Sometimes I wonder what people expect!
Mobility, that’s what I expect. We cannot have a main striker who can generally only score with headers or a penalty. He’s ok at what he does, but he’s just not mobile enough. He often slows down our play and it impacts on the performance of others. He’s someone to turn to when needed as plan B, but he’s never plan A for me.

I think we actually agree in a way. I don't look on him as a striker, rather a forward midfielder who lays stuff off to strikers in and around the area. Note that when Kirk went off Yates came on to work off one side of Madine with Lavery working the other side. OK, it didn't work but that wasn't because of Madine.

Hes a good asset but at times is too slow, shows in some chances like against Luton stretching for thr ball and should put it in, similar 2nd half today, a quicker striker can move into position and put chances like that away.

I think the point is, every game with Gaz we are one dimensional as a team. It’s a safe percentage selection from Critch, but he won’t get away with that next season.

Madine just doesn't run for things. He won't get us in the playoffs.

Not a bad player but massively prefer Beesley. I'd like to keep Gaz around. I think Yates or Lavery could still maybe do a job at this level, the jury is undecided.

I think you'll find the player who slows play down more than anyone is Keshi. Madindoes OK for me.

Because it was a shit pen, so was the one against Luton but fortunately that went in. Sort of agree because he doesn't half spend a lot of time on the floor or complaining about being roughed up. Also can't hide giving a foul away, having said that like him and he is the only front player we have at the moment that can win a header.
So think it's a bit shit to slaughter the bloke today because of a shit penalty. If we are going to hate players slag em off and get rid on today's performance then We wouldn't have any players left to start next season.

Said this forever and had people crying about it. Keshi is bang bang average. Takes a year to release the ball. Consistently slows play down. Zero chance of another championship club coming in for him.

easily our best player before his injury, Critch having a look at him in centre mid whilst nothing on the games

Has anyone thought that the reason our strikers have had a lean season maybe the fault of our midfielders or our defence . The number of times our attackers made runs and our defence and midfield kept passing it backwards. Just maybe our strikers would score more if they were given more and better chances . The reason everyone thinks Bowler is our best player is that he is willing to try and make his own chances , although I think he is too greedy and don't mind him going.

Madine can make an impact and has decent physical presence, but he’s being played for too long in games, 60 minutes is about his limit imo.

It’s been a disappointing day. Who knows how it might have panned out had Madine done better with the penalty?
I think that sums up this season though for me and a few of our other players too.
' If only we'd have done better.'
I just think to progress some are at their limit already and they are giving all they have so we need a few upgrades especially in the attacking positions

I’m expecting half a dozen out and the same in. However, I can’t remember how many loans there can be in the squad.

Madine seems to have double value to Critch, ie: defending corners, free kicks. Perhaps, he’s also a ‘leader’ and/or popular. Sadly, he’s way short of a 20 goals/season. Assists?

We could also do with more goals throughout the team.
What position would we be in the league with an extra 20 goals (that’s not much spread across the squad/per match).

Totally agree and I think that's why it's frustrating really cos you can see how close we are. All said and done though a thoroughly enjoyable season which for me anyway ends at home with a poor performance on one hand but loads of positives and optimism for what's next.

I think sometimes he is selected purely because the side we are playing are big and we need his height to defend set pieces. Maybe we just need a taller centre half. !

Said it a week or so ago, that coming above Preston is very important to the fans so yep, there was plenty on the game yesterday. Critch and the players needed and need to be reminded of that.
