I don’t know how people will sustain working from home next winter. It will cost a bloody fortune to heat a home day in day out.I noticed my electricity charge, as you all will, has risen from around 12.8p per kw/hr to 28p, but why has my standing charge risen from 19p per day to 42p per day? the wires & infrastructure have not got more expensive?
Same for gas too
Seriously how is that/this a (as advertised generally) 53% increase?….??mind boggling..I noticed my electricity charge, as you all will, has risen from around 12.8p per kw/hr to 28p, but why has my standing day charge risen from 19p per day to 42p per day? the wires & infrastructure have not got more expensive?

I never worked from home , but for those that did , my employer paid a contribution towards electric , gas , broadband and house insurance , which of course will go up when you work from home . Some even got charged business rates if part of the house was being used as an office , and they also helped with that extra cost .I don’t know how people will sustain working from home next winter. As for your standing charge, I had an increase a while back but don‘t think mine as increased again with this price cap thing.

I don't know how people afford travel to the office, have you seen the price of petrol and public transport bet its still cheaper to stay put.I don’t know how people will sustain working from home next winter. It will cost a bloody fortune to heat a home day in day out.

Standing charges really should be scrapped. Their only purpose is to muddy the waters when trying to make comparisons. Not that that matters very much now with most people on the standard variable rate, but still.I noticed my electricity charge, as you all will, has risen from around 12.8p per kw/hr to 28p, but why has my standing charge risen from 19p per day to 42p per day? the wires & infrastructure have not got more expensive?

It was £6 extra a week tax free, so £1.20 a week in your pocket.Thats good
I think our guys got £6.00 a week and that may have stopped now
Sounds like it very much depends on your employer.
I’m surprised this hasn’t had more publicity tbh. People will of necessity cut back on usage to try and control their bills but they can’t escape paying the standing charge and once again it’s the least well off disproportionately affected. Regardless of whether you’re in a bed sit or a mansion with heated swimming pools you’ll pay the same standing chargeI noticed my electricity charge, as you all will, has risen from around 12.8p per kw/hr to 28p, but why has my standing charge risen from 19p per day to 42p per day? the wires & infrastructure have not got more expensive?

So why the sudden increase of over 100%.This was a question on a money programme a few weeks back. The standing charge is to cover network improvements. Because not all properties have gas and to ensure fairness (?) the standing charge for electric took the big increase.
Network improvement or shareholder dividends? This was a question on a money programme a few weeks back. The standing charge is to cover network improvements. Because not all properties have gas and to ensure fairness (?) the standing charge for electric took the big increase.
