Gay bar chant

Because evidently Rangers are embracing the LGBT community within their fanbase, whereas we are chanting gay related slurs.
Sorry i must have missed something

Just how are Rangers embracing the LGBT community and how do you know that from yesterday given you were about 150 miles away?

They’ve got a set of Gay Ultras who actually lead all the chanting ffs. Who do you think the Union Bears are ?

I think the gay bars and Lancashire songs are past their sell-by date. No different to the Tower/Mosque song which doesn't really get sung any more. I went with my lad yesterday who's in his Twenties and its inconceivable he would join in on any of those chants.

On the other hand, separate supporters groups based around sexuality, religion or race is a terrible idea.

What about changing the words from “get your fathers gun” to “touch your fathers bum” far more inclusive

I have a friend who works out of town in a warehouse distribution and packing dept for a sweeties and soft confetioners. He looks forward all year to his Blackpool trip watching his football team with the rest of his work colleagues.

He sings 'I'm only here for the gay bars'

We join in for a laugh an he loves it.

I'm in a conundrum what to do now moving forward mmmmm.

Bert Basset ?

An away fan once asked me why home fans were chanting the ‘gay bar’ song as he didn’t know that Blackpool was renowned for it.
After I gave him a quick update he then proceeded to ask me if I knew where said bars were located.
Awkward moment.

It’s a cringeworthy chant I hate it and I believe it does nothing to enhance the neutral’s perception of us. I suppose it depends on what kind of reputation you are striving for .Imho we need some new clever witty chants that entertain and put a smile on faces ( of both sets of fans and neutrals ) without the risk of alienating any group. We Blackpool fans should be all about inclusivity and entertainment , attracting more fans whatever the colour of their skin, religion or sexuality .Everyone should feel welcome at Bloomfield Rd and comfortable with the chants .
A clever witty chant for the visiting fans beats abusive every time , just my opinion .

Hear, hear!

Who cares what the neutral think of us?

It's a chant that's been sung for years and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it

There is no chance it won't be sung, now people are crying over it I expect it to be sung more often

Loud and proud

Long may it continue

Not sure how many on here are gay and so I'll give you a perspective of a gay Blackpool fan.

Did the chant offend me? No
Was I disappointed in our fans for singing it? Yes
Should there be a gay supporters club? If it promotes inclusivity and helps someone with their sexuality then yes. Would I join? No
Does this thread sadly show up some deep rooted unpleasant views held, even if unknowingly, by sections of our fanbase? Sadly Yes

Surely a neutral should be considered as someone to win over, a potential future recruit for the tangerine army .
Personally I would prefer us to be thought of as loud and loyal fans with a good sense of humour that get noticed for all the positive stuff not the negative. Of course you are entitled to your own opinion on the direction we as fans should take .I think we are more likely to swell the ranks by being clever , thoughtful and humorous with our chanting rather than the alternative .

I wish people would stop trying to influence other people

Nothing wrong with any of our songs or chants

Maybe it’s time for BFC to honour the traditions of what made the town famous and enter the pitch to the legendary George Formbys “ With My LIttle Stick of Blackpool Rock “ surely what ever your predilections everyone likes a nibble at it now and again !

Yes but where did that chant go with the most descriptive lyrics that those of us of a certain vintage used to sing " Weieeo, Weieeo, ... gobble, gobble gobble.. , ha ha ha ha" They don't write them like anymore!!! Can anyone remember the full lyrics with translation?

Funny how philtroist has responded to just about every post on here apart from this one 🙄

I'm not sure holding up Rangers as an enlightened group of fans, particularly when discussing offensive chants is the best idea...

As a 50+ non Woke non liberal who finds the chant deeply offensive and one which should be consigned to history along with other homophobic, racist and sexist chants . . .

. . . I have to say I find your post ageist and therefore deeply offensive 😜 😂 🤣

P.S. I don't even like gammon
Unless you identify as a gammon it shouldn't have offended you my friend

Just to add my two penn'orth as a gay Blackpool fan..... I think I'd answer all these questions the same way. Except the first one maybe, depending on what "offend" means. It doesn't upset me - I guess my response is more one of cringing and eyerolling.

Sorry if that comes across as "trying to influence" anyone 🤷🏻‍♂️

Awful chant and very problematic right now. At the same time the club have done very little to support Jake. We don’t even have an official LGBT+ Supporters club. Even clubs like Tranmere are light years ahead of us on that front. It needs sorting
Wo donthave an OAP one either or a Kirkham one. The list can go on.
