Gazette saying

I think that makes sense. He will go for a decent fee too. Yates and Madine are our main strikers and I wouldn't be surprised with at least one incoming, especially if Bowler goes (Please Josh, just put pen to paper here!!)

it will only be a loan Hert i would assume but yes it’s pure speculation at the mo.

He's scored a few decent goals and he was very good at picking people's pockets when pressing. Needs some game time, to regain some confidence and to sharpen back up. I'm not entirely sure his overall game is good enough for the Championship though TBH..

If he is leaving, I'd like to think this is because we have a player coming in. Relying on Madine/Yates would be madness. However, if I was to lose one of them it would be Lavery (well actually it would be Beesley but that is unlikely!).

As much as we love him and have a romantic memory of his goals at the start of last season, he looks non league at this point. The back end of last season was bad enough for him but his pre season has been a complete disaster.

Can never fault his effort and that’s part of the reason we like him but ultimately at this time his positional sense, first touch and most importantly shooting ability is seriously lacking.

It’s sad as he was in the form of his life before the Rovers game last year but on the other he looks to have come back a stone over weigh, never shifted it and has taken his eye off the ball professionally (hypotheses on my part) but I think it’d be best for him and us if we go our separate ways at this point. Either a loan or permanent as even a loan is likely to lead to a sale next year.

It frees ups space for one stellar permanent signing that we spend a little bit of money on up front. A George Hirst or Morgan Rodgers for example.

Not so sure it was his injury, more the way Critchley set us up in the second half of the season. It impacted on Jerry too. Both lost their confidence, they seemed unsure how they fitted in. The whole team seemed unsure of the plan at times. Thank god he’s gone!

Jerry is a quality all round player. Lavery’s strength is primarily his pace, which is probably not enough at this level. I wouldn’t write him off, he can develop his game, but perhaps a loan would be beneficial. I don’t see him ahead of Beesley once he’s fit.

If that frees up a space for Appleton's choice of striker, so be it. Maybe a loan until January would work, somewhere like Barnsley in Lg1, to help get him fit and firing again.

The Lavery now (put through last weekend and couldn’t burst away and got tackled) compared to the one at the start of last season is completely different.

Looks like the dreaded hamstring injury has lost him a bit of that explosive burst of speed away.

Also don’t think he was helped by the rotating last season, scored v Millwall I think and then didn’t get a kick in the next two games. Pointless rotation that didn’t get the best out of our forwards.

Think a loan deal is a decent shout.

Or could open the door for Rogers to arrive, Lavery has been off colour recently so a loan could be the perfect choice for him

We have one place in the formation for an out and out striker, I don't think any of the ones we've got are what's needed so makes sense to move one out and Lavery needs a change to get back on track.
I would see this as a positive if Dale and Lavery leave and Hirst and Rogers arrive!

You argumentative old fucker! Because he needs to be in a top end Championship club, he’s too good for a small time club like, erm….. Oxford! 😂
Ok. Thanks for the polite answer.

Peopld are saying he's hopeless and overweight at the minute. He might end up in the bench going nowhere.

Been playing on the Left, I don’t see that working for him this season so I won’t be surprised if he goes out to a L1 side.

Your touch can’t be as loose as his and your passing as poor as his is unless you score a boatload. He doesn’t do that and when you add that the ball never sticks up top when he plays then I don’t see how you accommodate him. Would like to see him get a loan to see what happens but I just don’t see him adding the quality of touch and passing that is necessary to his game.

Yep looks a stone overweight does Johnny Lager, give him a loan in Lg 1 or Scottish Lg and let him get fit
I add agree he does look a ‘unit’ as they say and not in a good way. I just can’t see what type of striker his is. The ball never sticks when played up to him, can’t win a header though does have a decent leap, first touch is terrible and never looks like scoring - just runs around like a headless chicken. Since he did his hamstring ageist rovers he looks a totally different player and not in a good way - no were near good enough for this level on current form I’m afraid.

I really don't know if it's his lifestyle or what but if he'd played like he has recently when he arrived he'd have gone by now. I honestly thought we'd unearthed a gem. Come on Shayne you can do better.

Hasn't scored in his last 14 appearances for us which is poor for a striker, albeit many of those appearances may have been limited time off the bench. Maybe some regular starts elsewhere will help him rediscover his mojo.

It's a tough game but you've gotta be ruthless to progress and he's likely on a decent wage, if he goes and bangs in 20 goals in league one we can either get a million or two for him or give him another go.

That being said, gotta be contingent on bringing a replacement striker in, surely.

What has the Gazette said exactly? I've seen nothing online. I'm guessing Scrafton has said Lavery may go out on loan or something? Just an opinion?
