Genesis

I’d also say that Land of Confusion is an absolutely brilliant song that I bet Gabriel wishes he had on one of his albums. Hackett is obviously an amazing guitarist and the shows he does are great, but he does trade heavily on Genesis rather than his own solo stuff (as good as it is) and he was another that had to go a bit pop to sell records (Highly Strung).

I went to see them last night in Leeds and it was an excellent show by a class act. Phil Collins was never going to reach the levels of when he was in his 30s or 40s but he gave a very decent performance last night (better than I thought he would be) and far superior to those crappy You Tube videos posted from last week. Those don't give the live impact of the accoustics in the venue or the fantastic lights and video show. I also suspect that because he was now a number of shows into the tour his performance has improved. Did justice to the main Genesis songs, including a few of the oldies, finishing with an excellent rendition of The Carpet Crawlers at the end. And the audience was well behind him. Special mention to the acoustic session where they all sat at the front of the stage and the drumming of Nicholas Collins, who is definitely a chip of the old block. A fitting farewell tour, with one of the tracks featuring old video clips from albums and days gone by, including Gabriel and Hackett.

Wasn’t there myself, but a couple of close friends were at the Leeds gig & reported pretty much exactly the same.

Genesis as a group a bit before my time.

Gabriel's Solsbury Hill is one of my all time favourite songs.

I am allowed to say that I actually liked Phil Collins on his jacks - and on Buster ?

Couldn't agree more re seeing him on stage in a chair now, very sad.

I know it must be hard for him with those horrible Tories taking a score a week from his benefits but surely somebody should stop him going through all this.
I saw a few clips from them and thought it quite stilted and depressing to be honest. A sad sight to see Collins like that. I still think the best he ever did was produce John Martyn's classic album "Grace and Danger" in spite of his over produced drumming.
On a similar topic, Steve Hackett is receiving rave reviews of his latest live tour. Great guitarist.

I'm not much of a music man to be fair Charlie and you will have forgotten more about music than I'll ever know.

So I can't help you with the others you mention but Phil Collins has been performing for a few years now when clearly not in the best of health and I do find it rather sad.

I've always liked his solo stuff but I always thought it was something you were meant to keep to yourself.

It is sad, he's best remembered in his prime in my opinion.

Going to see Steve Hackett on Thursday 👍

Missed the tour, but have watched many of the on line videos taken at both Birmingham & Manchester, I agree with many on here, They shouldn't have done it, Banks & Rutherford can still do it, but Phil, looks a sad & pathetic old man, who can no longer sing or even keep time with the songs....

I was fortunate enough to see Genesis many times (I was at the ABC circa 1978/9?) & saw some excellent shows, brilliant drumming by PC & great light shows, but this is too far, if Phil was a horse or a cat, they'd put him down... sorry, love "& then there were three", & "Duke", as my favourite albums, but just no....

Saw Hackett last night on his Genesis Revisited tour 'Seconds Out and More'. Started with some of his own stuff before playing a good range of the early Genesis classics. Excellent

Not a Genesis fan, although some of the pop stuff they did was OK. However, I bought Face Value and thought/ think it is excellent.

Mixed emotions on this one. First saw them at The Rainbow around 1973. Last saw them in Paris 2017.
This was the farewell tour but seemed like milking it one more time.
Sad for Phil.
There's an angel standing in the sun.

Saw them on Thursday in Newcastle. For me, it was amazing. Quite emotional actually. Was Phil as good as 20 years ago? No. Was it still great? Yes.
Remember, we all live or come from HOME BY THE SEA.
