Just watched a clip on You Tube of their Birmingham concert this week. Oh dear how the mighty have fallen. Phil Collins sat in a chair struggling to sing. They should never have done it😔😖

I am going to see them in Leeds on Monday. Collins was always going to sit to sing, because of the nerve damage to his back.He also had a couple of backing singers. I have spoken to a few that went to see them and they said the concert was good and covered some of their early stuff as well. This will be their last tour.
Steve Hackett is also on tour with his Genesis Revisted Seconds Out and More. I am going to see that next Thursday. Grab these concerts while you still can

Saw a clip on the news the other week and they sounded ok? Phil Collins son on drums. Collins matches Jeff Lynne for charisma though and I'm an ELO fan.

I lost interest after Peter Gabriel left. BTW, love your user name! Jeff Lynne, Mr. Melody!
When I see them on Monday, it will be only the second time I have seen them live. The first time was in 1973 when Gabriel was lead singer and they did a gig at Lancaster uni. Prefer their earlier stuff and they will do some of that in their playlist.
One of the reasons I am also going to see Hackett next Thursday is that he covers the earlier stuff from Seconds Out and other early 70s albums. He has a great supporting group including a great vocalist. Well worth seeing. I saw him 2 years ago when he did the Selling England album and other earlier stuff. Superb.

Was that at the Bridgewater Pete 2 years ago? It was excellent.

Funnily enough, I saw Gabriel on his own at Lancaster Univ about that time, or maybe a bit later.

Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest song writers of our time. The Out of The Blue album is just genius. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves but he is a very private man, so probably is happy the way it is.
Totally agree. Great song writer. Pity he's a bluenose!

I saw Gabriel solo at Lancs Uni after his split with Genesis, great gig and what a brilliant venue the Uni was, some of the best nights of my life spent at gigs there 👍

A tribute band worth seeing is The Musical Box. They are a Canadian band, originally established in the 1990s, and who focus purely on Genesis early material. Both Gabriel and Genesis have said they are the most accurate tribute band they have heard. Gabriel even took his family to see them to show them what he did in his younger days (most early Genesis gigs were never filmed). The Musical Box were even given some of Gabriel's props (such as the Fox's Head and red dress used on Foxtrot). I saw them in January 2020 in St Albans of all places ( hopefully Cat wasn't there). They are due to go back on tour in the UK in 2022 and intend to cover the Lamb Lies Down album.

Don't get your hopes up for earlier stuff Pete, they do the odd verse or instrumental section, cinema show for example, the rest is the 80s pop stuff. Still good but bit disappointing for us old progers. I'm off to see Steve Hacket tomorrow, really looking forward to it.

They're doing The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour

I saw three or four clips and he was struggling in all of them. Such a shame. I reckon he's not got long.
Trick of the Tail remains in my all time top 10 albums.

ELO…I always liked the Time album. Great concept record. Stripping out the more indulgent violin stuff

As for Genesis, I don’t see why Phil Collins having a disability should stop him from working. He can still sing, he hasn’t really played drums for a long long time love anyway, and I don’t think people go and see Genesis to see Phil Collins prancing around anyways. I think his guts in going out there in the face of the inevitable “he should give it up” crowd is admirable.

Huge Genesis fan who I first saw at the Finsbury Park Rainbow in 1973.
Everything changed when they went pop after Gabriel left.
2007 tour in Paris was wonderful but this is, sad to say, one step too far.
Oh and The Lamb is up there with Foxtrot as the best.

They did some good stuff post Gabriel, I think the demise started when Hacket left.

Personally I’m not a Genesis fan per se; however think Phil Collins and Genesis are members of a group of musical heavyweights who are sadly currently taking their final bows, and without these people music will hold little interest for me. The stones, Genesis, Elton John, Brian May/Roger Taylor, Aerosmith, Ozzy - not all my taste but all defining modern music IMO, real giants of the art.

I was reading an article about music writers standing up to today’s “big” artists who demand a cut of royalties before they will record their songs. Pah! If you don’t write your music you’re karaoke IMO!!

If Phil says the end is coming in the air tonight and he wants a last bow, I say he should go do it, giants don’t answer to mortals! 😉

Phil Collins has already said this will be their last tour. He said that the ? was added to the title The Last Domino by Tony Banks to add a bit of added intrigue and interest. It is a chance to say goodbye from one of the iconic groups of the music world. One that produced a range of innovative music over 50 years. That is the main reason I am going to see them. Despite PC's limitations, Genesis will ensure it is a decent quality and spectacle.
I think it will be Steve Hackett and his Genesis Revisited group and also The Musical Box that will continue to maintain the legacy of the unique and innovative early Genesis work and to a high standard. If you Google and watch the 28 minute YouTube video of the former's performance of Supper's Ready with the Heart of England orchestra, then you are in for a real treat. A superb performance, equal to anything available with Peter Gabriel and with some extended guitar elements.

Huge Genesis fan but never seen them live so bought tickets knowing this will be the last shows. It's worth the money just to hear the first notes of Behind the Lines. It's sad seeing Phil the way he is. He reminds me if my Uncle in early stages of dementia with the weight loss etc. I think it'll be quite emotional for me finally seeing them knowing this is it. Really looking forward to it.

He is not very well, very sad.
The band are not really my thing but it is a shame.

First time I saw Genesis perform live they were the support act to Lindisfarne at the guildhall in Preston 🤪. Good night except for having to go to Preston.

People forget that Gabriel went pop too…because he had to…to stay relevant. I thought they were as good as three fellas in their 70s had a right to be tonight. Stuermer does Hacketts’ stuff justice as he’s a fantastic player, and Collins son has a touch of the old fellas skills. Enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed the show; I’d have loved to see them bow out. Collins career as solo artist and with Genesis is beyond question. The worst anyone can say is not to their taste IMO.

Genesis as a group a bit before my time.

Gabriel's Solsbury Hill is one of my all time favourite songs.

I am allowed to say that I actually liked Phil Collins on his jacks - and on Buster ?

Couldn't agree more re seeing him on stage in a chair now, very sad.

I know it must be hard for him with those horrible Tories taking a score a week from his benefits but surely somebody should stop him going through all this.

They actually went to pot when Hackett left, he and Gabriel were the creative forces and Hackets tours are much more Genesis than the reinvented and then there were 3 brigade, who were frankly a jaded pop band.

So, my advice, go and see Hackett if you want the best Genesis experience. I have seen Musical Box too and have a ticket for the lldob tour in February. Selling England is my all time favourite prog album.
