I've never understood why only the selected couple from that great team were knighted.

No, he`d had a groin injury some time earlier but he was fit before the WC started, and did play in one WC warm up game against Finland but had lost his place to Cohen who had become first choice by then and Jimmy was just past his best sadly. He did not play for England again.

He was voted as best right back in the world at the 1962 World Cup and also voted as the best right back in Europe between 1962 and 1964.

If anyone was worthy of having a statue of himself at his home club then surely few could be as worthy of that honour as Gentleman Jim.
