Get WOKE go broke

“If you were to ask me for a word to ban it would be 'woke', originally a very positive concept… but now completely appropriated by the hard right, and used repeatedly as a general-purpose insult by people who don't really know what they mean." - Michael Rundell, a linguist and lexicographer

I‘ve just read that on the BBC website in an article by Susie dent on words and phrases that should be axed.

Haha. Hard-right. 🤣🤣
Standing up for common sense and not wanting kids being damaged by gender propaganda is hard right I’m sure.
Typical cancel culture against anyone who tries to speak up. But now you want to cancel the word which is associated with the push back against gender ideology brainwashing.
Adidas having a male model with his tackle, wearing a women’s swimsuit is indeed woke.
Sorry if you don’t like the word, but I suspect it’s more about the uncomfortable application of the word and its role in highlighting this new wave of weirdness which you and others really don’t like.
Well dear fellows, it’s not only our gender identity which is progressive, but dare I say our language is progressive too. Thankfully, unlike those that speak up against this craziness, and have their careers cancelled, language isn’t quite as easily eradicated.

Companies are being rated on a Diversity and Inclusion Index.
That rating is used to name and shame, annd it’s used by investors as one of the factors to influence investment decisions.

So there’s a scramble to be seen to be diverse and progressive and all inclusive. This is partly behind the actions of big corporations who are trying to be the most progressive and pioneering.

That’s all fine in theory, but it’s now become that organisations are pushing ideology that many of their customer base fundamentally disagree with. That’s turning off their customer base and these companies are therefore making huge missteps.

They’re in it for profit. But blinkered by the wokeism. Until it seems there’s a push back from their customers and they see their sales plummet.

Bud Light and Nike and now Adidas are trashing their customer base as they scramble to be progressive. Well it’s hitting them in the pocket hence the go woke go broke phrase.

They’re doing it thinking it will improve sales and profits and investment. But they’re throwing the baby out with the bath water and it’s coming back to bite them hard.
Where is this index published, or is it hidden from the MSM and only available to the select few?

Have you actually read my post. It’s a quote from an article on the B BC website. That woke y leftie broadcaster run by Tories

More than happy to boycott the woke BBC as well, while we’re at it.
Can‘t stop the license fee soon enough for me.
99% of it is absolute shîte.

Yes. I thought it was the basis for your viewpoint. If I’ve got that wrong then I apologise.

But the o/p wasn`t talking about any of that Malced, and neither was I.

The o/p was simply saying that alcohol sales of a certain brand have plummeted due to a specific advertising campaign, and was trying to imply that `wokeness` is the cause.

My point was simply that older people are more likely to be offended because it is the natural reaction of older people, and `twas ever thus.

Younger people are more likely to be open minded and receptive to `stuff`, and less likely to be clutching their pearls and having a fit of the vapours about an advertising campaign.

Therefore they don`t give a f*** about the advert.

And I don`t see an immediate link from a beer advert to "today`s generations having their heads messed with by opportunists and perverts".

Agree with Mex, you can`t have it both ways.

Finally, could someone explain exactly what `WOKE` is, and why it is now used mainly as a pejorative on here...

The o/p wasn’t talking about that specifically.
But it’s not like this thread has drifted off onto a completed unrelated topic like Brexit or the cost of living crisis.
Anything discussed has been directly pertinent and directly related to the o/p. Part of the same issue but from a wider perspective.

Sorry about that there are so many things pushing my buttons at the moment 🤬
