Saying the policing after the game was a disgrace underplays it. Funneled all fans together to the bridge over the canal then all run around surprised at the fighting.

Shambolic.

Maybe so

But not as shambolic as the lack of self restraint and control in those who took advantage of the situation

I think it's important we place full responsibility of such actions on the fully grown independent minded people who chose to do them, rather than those who might not have babysitted them quite meticulously enough to prevent it

Before I retired I used to mix with quite a few people I didn’t get on with. I tended not to land them one that often. And when I did I didn’t blame the police for not stopping me.

Been trouble at that bridge for years. Can’t believe away fans are still taken that way back to the train station when it’s probably quicker via the main road

👏👏👏

The policing last year was absolutely atrocious. I saw several incidents where police officers simply assaulted supporters for no good reason.
One old boy got knocked over by officers in full right gear, and then, when his wife remonstrated with them, they threatened to arrest her
They had literally no clue

I was on the train home at this point!

A couple of points though...

Why make the away fans go the long way round?

Why the massive police presence? We all know that Wigan fans will run off without the police escort. I'm not a hooligan but I've said boo to some of theirs before and watched them leg it!
I suspect the GMP just want to up their charges!

Strange. I crossed that canal bridge on my way back to the station, said hello to a couple of cops and got home without bother!
There again I wasn’t looking for a scrap!

As bad this year. They abandoned the kettling, just herded everyone together pushed it to a fight, then waded in in riot gear throwing punches.

So what do they do with other club’s supporters that prevents any brawling and why don’t they do the same for us.

Nor me. I’m 52 and with my boys, Doesn’t mean the policing wasn’t shocking.
Idiots wanting trouble is generally the reason the cops have to get involved. Sadly the same idiots don’t realise what techniques are required to apprehend and so shout and scream bad policing!

Don’t cause trouble and it’s very unlikely you’ll witness it or certainly become embroiled in it!

Have you watched the video to the end you clown? Most of the people trying to avoid the trouble are older fans and women. Just cos you sometimes get caught up in it doesn’t mean you’re looking for it

I've never gone looking for trouble but been caught up in it many times! I'm not saying that the police always caused it but they've caused it too many times for my liking!

The people walking past not causing any bother? They avoided it because they didn’t want to get involved, they weren’t rolling around the floor with the cops and the cops weren’t doing anything to them. They’re in the vicinity because they’re leaving the match, just like myself. You clown!

Strangely when the flags are Gaza ones and not football ones the police are pacifists and don't want to know, any thoughts why this is the case?
Probably because they’re not alcohol fuelled idiots that want to fight anyone that walks past. Politics and football have to be approached in totally different ways.

I’m not saying I agree with either at times, but that’s just fact.

How many are rolling around the floor out of the couple of hundred on the video…….2!!!

Thanks.

Does that excuse two of them pinning someone down while another gets a few free hits in?

That's a shocking video.

Before the game they tried to send us all the way round the ground past three sides of Wigan fans to pick up pre bought tickets, when it was literally at the other end of the away stand. Could not organise the proverbial drink in a brewery.

I remember years ago coming back from a home game on the train. Pulled into Wigan station and the police were beating up St Helens rugby fans. They were throwing them onto the floor and kicking them.
I ended up in court as a witness to help the defense of the rugby fans. The case was soon dropped as there was no evidence of the rugby fans having done anything wrong.
So Wigan police have had form in this for years

Striking tactics is what is happening there. Likely to the arm if they won’t release them. Sadly we don’t see all of the video, just the post melee.

A shocking video is the one of the cop kicking someone in the face in cuffs. This one isn’t a shocking video, if you know what you’re looking at!

All I’m saying is if people behaved, it wouldn’t happen. People go looking for it and then jump on here moaning when it backfires.

If people behaved you wouldn’t have a job.

Take your hat off and just be normal and say it was way over the top.

I opted out of the train option even though the journey for me would have been free ( well ok not quite as it costs me £10 a year to add it to my GMPTE OAP bus pass) because I’d have to change trains 3 times and wouldn’t have been home until close to 7 30 and that was asuming I’d get to Wigan Wallgate in time which judging by events last season and what happened yesterday would actually seem highly unlikely. So I drove the 38 miles paid £5 for parking and was home just after 6😁.
However what struck me was when I arrived and walked to the ground from the designated away parking was every copper I passed towards and around the away end ( and there were lots of them) had their riot helmets with them which I can’t say I have ever witnessed anywhere previously. It seemed to me they were expecting and having seen the video above it would seem even hoping for trouble.
As for how they deal with getting away fans back to the railway station or even the town centre it seems they are clueless looking at both the videos including the Bolton one.
We often see posts re the policing by Lancashire Constabulary but GMP seem even more inept.Wonder if they”ll be as heavy handed at Old Trafford today.🤔with Liverpool having been allocated 9211 away tickets😂

I'm pretty sure I saw a lot of women and children on that video and also others just walking along after leaving the ground and being confronted by police dressed and behaving like they're Robocops, totally over the top for me pal. I'm also not sure why politics and football should be approached differently, if you commit a crime then you commit a crime and should be dealt with accordingly.

It was unbelievably bad last year. I was with my mate (Wigan fan) walking back. We both got manhandled, sworn at and threatened and to this day, I have no idea why.

When people say "it's all down to idiots looking for a fight" they should also reflect that some of those idiots looking for a fight are in uniform.

I noticed that on the way to the ground. I was stood next to 2 coppers who looked like thugs constantly turning and being aggressive to some young lads on the row behind. They were itching for it to kickoff. Then at half time the stewards weren't letting us go back up to were we came from so those two cops had to get involved and start pushing us back. The policing was poor yesterday.

The funny thing about your half time comment was pre match I went into the Marquee to sit down for a rest( I’d been walking for about an hour and am getting on a bit😂) as fans were being invited in.As I left to go into the ground they were telling everyone they’d be open at half time for drinks……then you say the stewards inside were not letting people get back to their seats….you couldn’t make it up😂

Mind you those who went to the Marquee might as well stayed there.🍺🍺

Went the other way yesterday so didn’t see anything, but was caught up in it last year and at Bolton this year.

Can safely say that GMP are a force of complete charlatans, can’t organise a thing and then want everything to kick off so they can get violent, it’s awful.

They’re the biggest firm in football, and they get away with their belligerent behaviour with no consequences. Just look at when the foreign fans come for UEFA games, they shit themselves

Walked past that marquee about 1230. Looked like it was shut, and had been for months.
Walked in to Whelans bar for the 2nd Yr running

I remember back to when the Police were man-handling old women, people in wheelchairs and other protestors at Preston New Road ‘Fracking Site’.

The attitude of many of the complainants on here was that the police should employ the water cannons. A similar attitude was on display in regard to the recent BAE protestor video.

Interesting how attitudes change depending upon who the victim of the Police brutality happens to be.

Do you think a 7/8 yr old boy or girl walking past that wouldn’t find it shocking ?

I suspect they would find it completely traumatising . I wouldn’t be surprised if it stayed with them forever

With respect mate we know what we are looking at .

We don’t know what led up to it but it’s got to be something pretty serious to justify that.

The video suggests that some members of the public present are concerned about the welfare of the lad on the floor .
