Good win and start to 2024

It's an unusual league this season in that there are so many teams averaging around 2 points per game. It's usually just the automatic paces where teams have that ratio but it's right down to the final Play-Off spot this season.

Going to take a huge effort to close the gap or a big drop off from one or two of the teams in the Play-Off spots.

Sure.

But check the away record under Critchley's intransigent tactical genius.

Then leave your brain at the turnstiles.
Did I say Critchley was a tactical genius??

All I said was that a win is good, but there are many doubts still remaining and he's not gonna be sacked so we all need to back him.

Weirdo. 😂

A win is a win & 3 points pulls us closer to the play-offs.
It wasn't pretty or entertaining, but it's the result that matters.
The Florists will be a different challenge & we certainly don't want embarrassing

3 points is 3 points. That's what gets recorded in the books.

Thought we could have gone 1 down early doors, but then they showed they had little and the game became about what we would do.

They were bang average and I'd say we were that bit better than bang average. 2 weeks off, so see what happens. Reserves, or second XI at Forest.

Most relieved man tonight will be SS. A defeat and he'd have no choice but to ask himself and his staff questions.

Not an awesome performance but we were good in patches and much better than Lincoln and deserved the win.
Casey was very good as was Albie Morgan who sets a good speed for our play.
We seem to look better without Norburn and I think he needs to adapt and speed up his game to fit in with us otherwise I don't see him in our CM.
All in all a good 3 points.

A game pretty low in quality, but these are the games you need to "win ugly " to stand a chance of going up. Has to be said that a whistle happy (and inconsistent) ref didn't help the game flow either.

As posted in many threads already, some L1 Teams have figured out that sitting back and waiting for an opportunity has worked well against us, so I'm expecting a few more games like today before May.

Casey deserved m.o.m, a very solid defensive performance. Perhaps says much about the game when a CB gets mom. Dembele was a joy to watch at times though.

Now do the same away from home

It's always good to win but yet again it was a really poor performance to watch.

We seemed to pick up second half and had a bit more energy. Morgan and Dale put themselves about to great effect as did Virtue first half.

As usual the only real quality came from Dembele, I shudder to think what would happen if we lost both him and Rhodes.

Thought 1st half was duller than one of @paulco posts. They had the better of the play. Bizarrely our tactics appeared to involve hitting long diagonals to CJ.

2nd half was good. Created a few chances and restricted them. We need a few signings though. Matty Virtue isn’t going to be the answer for the 5th season of people saying he might be. Morgan was good today and nice to see one of our players fly into a challenge like he did 👏🏻

Midfield needs strengthening physically and technically as does defence. Would like another wide option, I think Apter could be the answer but we’d probably have him turning backwards. We’ll need another striker depending on how long the rest are out. Got Madine written all over it.

Spot on AK....

Virtue just didn't stamp any authority in the centre of the pitch and as I keep bleeting on, we need quality not quantity in terms of midfielders.

In saying that, I thought Dale and Morgan both put in strong shifts second half.

Some will drop off. Oxford have already started for starters.

Always difficult when a team plays with 5 defenders just look at one of the best teams in the world (City); Sheffield threw everyone behind the ball and restricted City to just 2 goals even though they had 84% possession.
We actually had less possession today but got the win so very welcome
Slight change of tactics in as much as we played the long ball far more today instead of the pussyfooting about passing sideways and backwards. Maybe Critch has finally realised that there are other ways to play the game.
Pleased for CJ because despite what some people think that lad always puts a shift in and must cover more mileage than anyone.

In large parts of that first half we were playing 5 defenders at times. Dale was like a left back. It was a horrible watch. Thankfully we improved.

Wiz, Oxford won away at Charlton today and are only 5 points off automatic promotion so I wouldn’t say they were dropping off at all.
However, as regards Charlton, I think they are certainly in decline thanks to good old Appleton.

Oxford were in the top two or thereabouts when the manager left.

There's always a team who comes up on the rails, like we have done previously. Get the away form sorted and we should be in the mix.

A wins a win. Was a dire watch though - the crowd reflected the game. No atmosphere until the 2nd goal went in. We're a mid table team at present with a very questionable and stubborn manager in charge
And likewise the fans

It is an important win, (Bristol RVs and Lincoln are fair teams and awkward but we’ve beaten both of them) and boy we needed that win today. The sooner we get get to 60 points the happier I’ll be and we’ll see where we might reach

I won’t go over the away results, they are pants, we need to be braver, harder and far more solid mentally and physically - to be frank, if we can get 5 away wins (we really must get that points conversion) until the end of the season and another 7 wins at home we’ll be thereabouts - hopefully some of those wins the right teams !

Best wishes
Cambers

A much better second half. Makes a change for us. Rhodes was imperious, we've been lucky to have him in the side. As others have said, strong performances from Morgan, Dale and Casey too. All to play for still, but we should not have lost nine games already in this division. Two points from every three remaining will definitely see us into the playoffs. Let's hope we can do it.

Oxfraud, Barnsleh, Pompey, Horwich all got to come to us

Love Jordan Rhodes what a top professional and credit to the game of football he is
You can see quite easily how he’s managed to make a decent career out of his ability. Such a shame he will most likely go back to being a bit part player at best. I’m sure he’s enjoyed being a key player.
