Got our Car nicked off our Drive

What it’s taught me…..

The Police are an utter waste of time and are not interested one bit….you get a crime reference number over the phone and that’s it.

Modern cars with keyless ignitions are easy to nick

Insurance Companies are very very slow with a high value claim and do not provide a courtesy car as standard… we have been lucky enough to borrow my Mum‘s 24 years old Astra and it’s been a privilege to be able to do so otherwise we’d be hiring at £200 or so a week

My main recommendation would be to go old school and get a steering wheel lock and put it on every night …..they obvs staked our car out, as it were….I‘be got the footage of it being nicked from our security camera and the lad is down the road straight to our drive then in the car and away within 30 seconds (with his hood up of course)

My other main point is to expect nothing at all from the Police because you’ll get nowt

Sorry to hear that and not a bit surprised by your experience with the old bill. Was it a "desirable" car?

Insurance companies are the worst they pretend to cover you then wriggle out on a technicality. Cops are too entrenched in paperwork to do anything worthwhile these days. Sorry to hear about your dilemma. Oh & car locks don’t seem to have improved either.

Supporting OCG's, terrorists and petty criminals in buying illegal TV equipment and fake England tops off TC 😫 and you have the nerve to come on here for sympathy. Lets hope you think twice in future for further purchases.

I’ve had three cars nicked over the years, fortunately none in the last twenty years. Yes the police are useless and insurance companies do everything they can to avoid paying out. Feel for you mate, I’ll look at steering wheel locks now

Landrover Discovery mate….3 nicked from local streets in last 3/4 weeks. Best car I‘ve ever had..loved it
It will probably be in a container by now, off overseas. Don’t suppose the Police got any ANPR pings?
No I’m guessing (wouldn’t know as had no contact) but they probs didn’t even try mate

i would pal 👍

That's tough Blood. Hope you get it back or a proper insurance payout.

Electronic central locking is simple to crack these days as thieves can get a decoder that copies the signal when you lock up and they can use that to unlock the car later. Seems like the more sophisticated the car's security system is the easier it is to break in.

Hope you get sorted soon mate, always worried about my caravan on the drive

Keep your keys a good distance from the front door and if you can be bothered buy one of those little ‘faraday cages’ / wallets to block the signal.

Normally people hang their keys near the door by the drive so you can clone the key unfortunately.

Awful feeling for you Blood.

We used a faraday Box already mate. See above, apparently they can copy it as you lock or unlock the car

Didn’t see that. Cheeky feckers.

You wouldn’t be looking around for some scrote with a flipper device would you? (We’ve used these in ethical hacking tests)

Is this people intentionally marketing products that can be used by criminals?

Or criminals using products for an unintended and unanticipated purpose?

I can smell a test case.

The second one but it’s basically the obvious use for it along with cloning of cards and nfc

Unfortunately it is very very easy to clone membership cards, bank cards and car keys.

Straight into a container and offshore maybe. What a pisser. Hope you didn't have anything of sentimental value in the vehicle Blood. My car was done on CCTV in a pub car park a few years ago here on Wirral. The police did nothing about it. I was even lied to by the officer supposedly investigating.

Well if it’s an obvious use then it shouldn’t really be unanticipated. And it’s an easy get out to claim “Oooh it never occurred to us it could be used for that purpose!”

The real test is, once the issue has been pointed out to them, is the product withdrawn from the market?

I did a demonstration of this to a global bank security system heads. They were a little surprised.

I was equally surprised when they told me that their secondary server back up location in case of an attack on Canary Wharf was actually 2 streets from Threadneedle Street.

Utter fuckwitry

😂 Yes. By and large Management haven’t got a clue.

“Well our other office is there so we’ll put it there then”.

“Sounds sensible to me boss 👍

Unless I'm going on a long journey I only ever put a tenner's worth in the tank. And you know how far that would get you with any car.

Sorry to hear this Andy. Best thing you can do is put a steering lock on and use a ‘Faraday’ pouch for the key - this blocks the signal, so the twats can’t nick it! we’re getting a new Golf GTi in a few weeks and this has keyless entry, so will be doing the above.
I know it doesn’t get your car back, but good to know for the next one.
The worlds full of tossers! Hope the scroats get what’s coming to them……! You can’t have fuck all these days!

Perhaps the manufactures need to make cars with a detachable vital component that you can take away, like a key perhaps. Failing that you could only take something off yourself. I remember people walking around with a wheel of their bikes. Really it's bollocks in this day an age that we can't get basic security right.

it's a product for ethical hackers to use during a physical pentest at an organisation. So as an example you could use the RFID bit to test whether employees are keeping their access cards secure and are vigilant. Sounds like Chunky lad is in cybersecurity.

They're targeting Discos? Bit weird, not exactly rare.

Many many years ago my mate's Dad had a Cossie and was told by the police it was being lined up to be nicked but there was nothing they could do about it, so at least they've always been pointless idiots.

A friend of mine who’s uncle has a bnb on the seafront bought a brand new Cosworth back in the day - drove it from the dealers, parked it up and went inside to insure it, by the time he came back out, it was gone. Ouch.

Andy, sorry to hear that.
I keep my car on the drive, hopefully it's so full of safety gadgets I would hope the alarm would go off.
I always put my steering lock on, tough metal, it would take ages to saw though it, and is a good deterrent.

Dunno if it's of use to anybody, but I've got a STOPLOK ELITE steering wheel lock that one of our fine Seasiders can have FREE of charge.
(I would appreciate a voluntary donation to give to Trinity Hospice, but if you can't afford it, then it's not a deal breaker!)

The steering wheel lock has been used by me in the past, but is in 'top notch nick', and comes with 2 x keys.
