Graham Carr

Hadn't realised that Graham Carr managed Blackpool (well before my time) - watching the Allan Carr comedy at the moment - was he really that crap!

He was sacked from Northampton in May 1990 after their relegation back to the Fourth Division, taking over at Blackpool, who had been relegated along with Northampton, the following month. He had a torrid time at Blackpool, where he was never popular with the home fans, who took to spitting on the dugout during home games, especially after letting the previous season's player of the year, Colin Methven, sign for Walsall, saying he was neither good enough nor quick enough for Fourth Division football.[2] He was sacked on 30 November after Blackpool were beaten 4–0 away to Tranmere Rovers in the Football League Trophy three days earlier. He was, until Michael Appleton in 2012, Blackpool's shortest-serving manager, with just sixteen Football League matches in charge.

Allan Carr and comedy do they belong in the same sentence?

To answer your question it's very similar to the above but in football....

I remember the game at Chesterfield..Carr had completely lost it during the match..red faced and hurling terrible abuse at the players...not surprised that he lost the dressing room and was sacked..

Nah…terracing behind the dugouts back in the day you could move all the way along the stands. Billy moved the home dug out over to the other side of the pitch from memory.
Billy liked the walk across the pitch to get the fans going

Carr was as good at managing Blackpool as his son is at comedy. I remember going to his first League game for us, the season opener, at Scunthorpe. We were absolutely hopeless and it was clear we’d struggle under him. We never lose to Scunnie, normally, but we did well to lose only 2-0 that day.

No he didn't .. it was Graham Carr
Jimmy Mullen brought in Billy Ayre after assistant manager Len Ashurst left to manage Cardiff. Mullen was sacked and Director Tom White took over with Billy as his assistant to the end of the season.
Graham Carr was then appointed manager close season with Billy Ayre being kept on as assistant.

He had previously got Northampton promoted as Champions with a huge points total but played a long ball game so unless you were winning, it was never going to be a tolerable watch.
He was very successful in recruiting players from non-league. Perhaps that was the attraction to our board.

I remember the first time I saw him was at a pre-season friendly at Fleetwood, sure he was wearing a sheepskin coat. I only really remember it because I went with my late father, he only went to mid-week games. We both stood leaning on a barrier to watch the match and when the inevitable substitutions were made, my father said quite loudly I hope he doesn't pat the player's backsides like the last manager. He didn't recognize that the man standing next to him was Jimmy Mullen, and I quickly had to change the conversation to a different topic before he said anything more about his man management techniques. :)

He was chite! Seem to remember a crap Gazette Headline after one game showing a picture of Graham Carr shouting and pointing and the headline being “What a noisy Carr” 🙄

I remember the day well.
Did you have to remind me.
Didn't we find a gem that day with little Alan Wright making his debut?

Graham Carr wasn't very good at Pool but he was an excellent manager for Northampton previously when they walked Div 4 as clear Champions scoring goals for fun.
It shows that just because you can be a great manager at one club it doesn't mean that the same will happen at the next club.
There have been several managers who did not enhance their career prospects when managing Pool and, sadly, he was one of them.

Am I correct in remembering he was unveiled in the Tangerine Club by OO before one of England’s first round games of the 1990 World Cup or have I dreamt it?

I can remember Carr having a Q&A session at the Tangerine Club and reveling that Colin Methven was to slow to be kept on,much to the derision of the audience.
It was around the 1990 World Cup time though.
