Greta without her script

She’s traveled to 163 countries in her short life do you seriously think she’s walked to them all?
It was even publicised she went to America in 2019 on a yacht but without wind a yacht is totally useless it also has an engine that burns fuel.
A yacht has to use its engine to manoeuvre in and out of port so it’s not exactly totally green clean is it? So why bother?
Seriously I’ve nothing against this young lady but it’s impossible to live life totally green these days and not burn one gram of carbon but she really needs to go to Russia, China, India, (she’s done the USA) the real big polluters and tell them where’s it’s all going wrong.

There’s certainly points to be made about the demandingness of climate activism - but ‘it’s not perfectly carbon neutral so why bother’ doesn’t wash. Obviously the answer to that question is it’s better to try your best and explore alternatives than to just give up and shut up.

Not watched the clip but nobody should get a free ride from scrutiny when wanting to change the habits of every citizen on the globe and shape policies. Even those individuals with outwardly good intentions - or especially those with outwardly good intentions.

Saw a clip of Tony Blair the other day, hawking his idea for ID cards again. Nobody wanted them and it failed as a policy when he had an actual mandate, don't know what he's playing at now.

Why don't these individuals - like Greta, like TB - stand for political parties, or start their own?

Regarding digital ID - initially I was against it and then I had one while living in Singapore.

It generally made life so much easier especially with proof of identity.

I’ll give you an example when opening a bank account or any account for that matter - I put my digital id number in and my phone flashes up Face ID and then asks if I want to share my details with x organisation.

I click yes and 30 seconds later the account is fully open.

The problem is, whilst starting out with good intentions, they open the gates to a much more advanced system of control such as China's Social Credit System which some fear will lead to people being unable to escape from, and indeed accelerate, a life of destitution when a single error is made.

That all may be true but there'll be others who don't want it and have more regard for privacy. I'm already fully immersed in using my thumb print to open my phone and banking app, but there are others with legit concerns about these things who deserve to be heard too. I had to use a fake app to get into Bloomfield Rd last season for example - so this amount of monitoring and control is not always a simple matter of convenience for the end user.

But, I digress. These types of things deserve real scrutiny through the proper channels, the Parliamentary process and fourth estate. To bring it back on topic, Greta should've already by now have been given the Paxo/Hard Talk treatment. It's only right when a lot of people disagree with her. If her arguments hold up then all the better for everyone and we can move forward with something approaching a consensus - rather than driving through an unpopular policy which is actually a little bit psychopathic. eg 'I know what's best for you'.

If you don’t want it that should always be an option but personally I would snap your hand off for one - after seeing the benefits.

The reality is you don’t have to have a passport or driving license but we mostly have them.

Singpass is the Singapore version and it holds everything from my tax records to my medical history - I found it brilliant!

So what do you think powers lights on a zero emissions yacht?
A generator which uses liquid fuel the same liquid fuel that the main and back up engines use.
Like I said you just can’t escape using carbon/emissions no matter how hard you try even her.

It's not easy to get away from some sort of fuel but they will be using inverters with batteries charged by the wind.
The lighting and navigation instruments on a yacht are all 12 volts and all LED so very little load. A 1Kw inverter would easily power the lights and navigation gear etc

Don’t sail across the Atlantic and claim to be green when you have to fly the crew back annd other people out to sort the boat out.

Madness!

How do you know they didn't sail the yacht back? Did the yacht stay in US or return to it's home port?

The yacht is a Zero emissions boat. Probably 6 or 8 onboard saving all those air tickets and carbon emissions 😉

We’re talking about one trip to America here like I said earlier she’s visited 163 countries in her short life ask yourself how has she travelled to all those countries and if you can come up with she’s used solar power to get to them all then then she’s a brilliant individual.
It won’t be the case though will it? Planes, trains, buses, cars, boats, she’s used them all at some stage but she makes such a big song and dance about one trip to America.
As I’ve said before good on her for trying though hats off to her but once again you cannot live life without giving off some carbon emissions at some stage in your life.
Be interesting to know how she heats her house solar panels in winter in Sweden when covered in snow 3-4 months of the year? 🤔
Let’s not forget even driving an all electric car today is not carbon emission free like many think it is it’s still got to be charged and it’s usually charged via the mains as solar panels in winter even via an inverter just wouldn't charge it quickly enough it would take a week or so if at all.
Friend of mine recently bought a Tesla he had to spend about 2 grand on an adapter/inverter to up the Amps from his house electricity so it could charge it sufficiently overnight.

It was widely reported what happened. And more importantly not denied!

I'm with Greta 👍

Every little bit that helps the planet.

If she did fly to 163 countries she didn't charter a private plane just for her.
The flight still goes if she is on or not.

Agree with that sentiment, I don't really see a problem, the people against them are usually arguing their case using an ISP where anyone who wants to can locate their exact location and details.

£12.50 a day to enter the M25 area. How will that help white van man and make many vans worthless as not compliant.

There’s no evidence of climate change is there?

(Except every country in the world getting gang raped by Mother Nature with storms, floods, drought and hurricanes on a level never seen in our lifetimes)

All good!!
I don't think there's a huge denial of climate change, we'll from most anyway, but the question is speed and severity, also how much is natural and man made, hard to tell exactly, but no doubt pumping constant shite is adding to it.

We get bullshit articles spreading fear about Blackpool being under water in 25 years, which is total bollocks and went beyond what even the worst case models said and also assumed nothing would be done about it at risk areas.

Remember people were told the oil would run out decades ago. Never happened.

There's no doubt, like any situation, governments or whoever will use a situation to their advantage to push an agenda, even a good agenda.

As for Greta, is it beyond the realms that she would be an actor to push a message to affect change, not really, but I don't really care either way.

I'll do my bit where I can for the environment, but in reality the big countries need to do their bit or we're basically turning up at an earthquake with a dustpan and brush.
