Guardian reading, tofu eating wokerati

This is how Suella Braverman described protesters blocking roads as she defended the public order bill. She certainly has a turn of phrase.

1966 and El Burro fit her description but are too lazy to get their fat arses down to the protests.

Why soup? And why do they wear Wham! style t-shirts with depressing slogans on? George Michael would be rolling in his grave.

Whatever your views on net zero and fossil fuels, these appear to be very puddled young adults.

She also called the opposition parties in the Commons 'the coalition of chaos'. 😂

Yvette Cooper, in reponding, duly scored the open goal.
She's merely holding a mirror up to her own party. And yes I do read the guardian in fact I even pay a subscription mainly because aside from them and the mirror they are the only ones calling out this shower of shit for what they are.
I have been known to eat tofu but find it pretty boring.
I'm not too inclined to glue myself to a road or bridge although I would probably pay admission to see suella glued to one. Perhaps the middle of tufton Street might be a good location.
Everytime you think this so-called government couldn't get any worse they confound expectations.
The sooner this lot all consigned to history s bin the better .

I support and cherish the right to peaceful protest.
But I don’t support people causing chaos.
There’s ways and means of effecting change. These people keep comparing themselves to the suffragettes. Well the suffragettes didn’t have the vote. These folk do. But instead they want to circumvent any form of democracy and impose their beliefs on others.
Most of them do indeed appear to be a breed of over privileged toffs - or at least their spokespersons do.
Quite frankly I do understand their causes but I don’t agree with how they’re going about it. Nor do I agree with their rank hypocrisy in that they want to stop pollution yet they want to hold onto their modern day polluting items such as their iPhones.
I like straight talking politicians and I like suella braverman or whatever her name is. She connects with the public more so than many others will ever be able to do eg Starmer and Truss - who both appear as dull as dishwater and merely espouse the usual expected political platitudes with all the charisma of a punch drunk slug.

I think you need professional help. 🤔
Do you think someone who said it is their dream to send people off to Rwanda. Not their wish but their DREAM. Anyway she's a fake. And worse than that she was an incompetent attorney general and is already repeating the performance as home secretary. Justwatch all her wishlist priorities fall by the wayside, all she is is a bunch of dog whistle sound bites.
Won't be long before she's gone as well.

Still here then ,employee of Quadrilla. tosspot.

She's good at calling people names, I'll give her that.
But a serious, green-up politician, Yvette Cooper wiped the floor with her in the commons in that exchange.
The dog whistles are meant to distract us from her obvious short-comings.
Yes Yvette cooper tore her to shreds. Now there is a proper politician, intelligent incisive and actually understands politics. She's also had a good grounding by having to wipe the floor with Priti Vacant regularly

Thing is you’re entitled to your opinion, as am I. Your silly put downs and name calling says more about you than they do about me. Have a lovely day and try to be nice to someone.

Unfortunately no such professional exists. 🤣

You’re getting a bit hung up on one word. I think the Rwanda policy needs to be given a chance to bed in to see if it can become a disincentive.
No one has an answer to the immigration problem. Most of them are coming from Albania and getting straight into organised crime in the UK. I’m all for stopping this - and if that needs a drastic measure then so be it.

I’m not sure if anyone can call the last few weeks democratic, I’d be interested to see someone argue that.

I wouldn’t be glueing myself to anything but I can see why it’s happening and I think there’ll be anarchy unless a democratic vote is brought forward.

There’s a big demonstration in London on 5th November and I think there’ll be unrest. People are angry and I don’t think you can blame them.

Why would i be nice to someone who supports fossil fuel energy, climate change
is for real, if you are happy to gamble with our children and grand children future,
so be it ,you have a nice day, and i hope your conscience does not bother you, take your arse licking to Francis Egan, and co ,and do not bother replying on here.
goodbye Nobber.(you are no on ignore).

Both sides are at it in honesty. Stella Creasey was very personal and unkind during PMQs today.

I haven't called you any names and you are just repeating un truth the statistics don't hold up about albanians. And the simple fact is that ever since they announced the Rwanda policy so-called illegal immigrants have increased so it's really working isn't it.
Anyway I think the fact that you think that is is a policy worth trying and that braverman (whose own family came here as immigrants but wouldn't get in under her policies) commands any respect from anyone with any humanity. I'm afraid says more about you. I'm all for human decency and respect and I also welcome refugees. And I've been known to eat tofu, but I prefer toffee 😄

What was it? oh yes, "eg Starmer and Truss - who both appear as dull as dishwater and merely espouse the usual expected political platitudes with all the charisma of a punch drunk slug."

Creasey had a point to her sarcasm, the PM should have been in the HoC on Monday to answer questions about the change of direction that her own government has made. Instead she hid from scrutiny.
Nah, SC was taking the piss out of a likely MH breakdown imo.

Not a good look I agree but the PM should have answered questions on Monday about her sacking of the chancellor and the astonishing changing of direction. If she isn't very well then she has to resign and get out of the firing line, this is not about Truss but about the country.

Agree. Don't know what the answer is tbh. The economy is a mess and I don't know how it gets turned around from here. Certainly not by chucking soup at paintings, that's for sure.

There needs to be an honest discussion with the country - about what the government can and can't do for people with what we've got - because I think it's going to be all hands to the pump for a bit with quite a few in hardship for some time to come. GE needed really.

But Truss is a fighter not a quitter. She said so herself at PMQs. She didn't turn up to answer Labour's UQ because she was holed up in her office with Sir Graham Brady doing the arithmetic on her level of support on the Tory benches. Creasy knew this when she was goading Truss at PMQs.

So you’re taking a critique of politicians who have put themselves at the forefront of the UK public and world eye, a critique which which they won’t see - and you’re equating it with some poster who has made a petty personal attack on me. I’m sure you can justify that and justify supporting such posts which go against the usage policy. Good one. 👍

Did I say I you called me names?
I’m not sure why you think there’s no humanity to moving someone who’s illegally entered our country with no justification, when they were already in a safe country, to Rwanda who are more than willing to give them a safe life away from whatever they were fleeing (in France).

You clearly don’t have the emotional intelligence and/or maturity to cope with the awful realisation that not everyone has the same opinions as you.

If my opinions upset you so much I suggest this message board is not the right place for you.

We can disagree on fracking but how does that justify calling me a nobber? Very peculiar when we’re all BFC fans on here.

Don't put words into my mouth. If you join in the Politics Forum these things are going to happen. It was fairly inviting though, juxtaposing your slug comment with your plea for people to be nice to others.

Starmer and Truss ( and by the way the latter has been crucified on here for weeks with much worse than slug comparisons🤣🤣) indeed don’t have much charisma. I posted that out with expressive language. Come on that’s hardly being personally nasty.

By the way, with respect I didn’t put words in your mouth. You’ve jumped on an exchange between me and another poster where I was defending myself against personal name calling etc., and you’ve deflected away and appeared to support the other person or somehow justify or forgive their comments. If I’ve misconstrued that then I apologise - but that’s how it appears. He’s just called me a nobber on his latest post. I found that amusing tbh. 🤣

Sounds like you two are slugging it out.

You're overthinking this. I haven't supported, justified or forgiven someone else's comments. I was just giving you a lighthearted ribbing. Mind you, now I know your football affiliations, perhaps I will be less lighthearted in future.

Maybe just giving back some of the shit she's had to put up with for years from right wing idiots

You can’t justify that type of behaviour. When the labour MP Jo Cox was stabbed and murdered there was much reflection in the Commons about the toxicity that had built up in UK politics.
MPs on all sides made long speeches about the need to reset behaviours to be more respectful and to dial down the rhetoric. That new respectful adversarial political way was to be part of Jo Cox’s legacy.

We also have more focus than ever on mental health. Yet when it’s a politician we don’t agree with it’s justifiable to have a go in such a cruel and public way?

No - I’m sorry - this isn’t about party lines - it’s about decency. We all should expect and demand better.

Ok. My bad. Let’s forget all that.
Anyway, nothing is gonna upset me today cos I’m still buzzing from the 0-1 win at Huddersfield. 😆

I’m sat in a hospital car park... quite entertained by this little exchange... dam ... looks like they’ve kissed an made up.....😁
Hope you and your good lady are good, mate 👍

Been thinking about this for a while, so might as well add it here.

Our political process needs an overhaul, and I would hope, if Labour do get a large majority, they use it to good effect. I am talking modernisation.

Get rid to all the "Honourable, right honourable" nonsense. Get rid of massive expenses for MPs, buy a couple of hotels , do em up to a decent standard, and that's where they stay. Change the catering at the HoC to normal food, and let them pay properly. If they want specialist food, there are a million and one restaurants in the area.

Change hours of sitting to allow more family people to sit as MPs, it is still way too close to a Gentleman's Club. Get rid of the insanely long holidays.

Set up a ways and means committee to work on ways to make debates less us v them, and more constructive. Committees at the HoC can actually achieve this already, yet when it comes back to the floor, it is all yah, boo.

Get rid of the Whips ( what an appalling ex fox hunting name), let MPs vote according to their constituents wishes (this fracking 3 line whip is a new low for even the Tories).

For all its giving more power to smaller parties, change to PR, so no one party, Labour or Tory, can ever again get such a big majority that it can totally ignore the electorate for 5 years.

If Manifesto commitments are broken, make it a free vote in the House.

Overhaul the Pension system for failed ministers and Prime Ministers.

Remove the right of MPs to lie in the House, with no fear of legal retribution. I realise this will give difficulty for whistleblowers, that would need to be allowed for.

Encourage the education of the Political Process ( not politics) to improve electorate participation ( how many times do you hear ; me voting makes no difference, with FPTP, they are right).

And in the second week .............😂

Here Here... I commend this to the house... 😁👍

Put them all the in same hotel? I don't imagine husband and wives would be up for that, it would resemble an 18-30s!
