Those who know Steven & the circumstances will understand, 24th Feb he is 61, two weeks older than me, we always said as kids, that means he'd die first, strange things kids eh?

We grew up as neighbours, & despite (& its a big despite) the things he's done, I will always think of him, as my mate..

Just a post for all who know him, to spare a thought today.....

I'll spare a thought for the poor woman who he murdered, and her family .
Yes I know, & I alluded to that, but just human kindness for today, he's paying for his sins... & I can't imagine the loss he caused, but that's not what today is about? Just one day eh?

‘He went back into the bedroom, laid beside Tegeler and then, with her head resting on his arm, strangled her until she was dead. Tegeler tried to resist, and the two struggled for five to seven minutes during which time Tegeler fell off the bed. When appellant knew Tegeler was dead, he left to buy some beer. He told the police that he contemplated suicide by throwing himself in front of a train, but there were no trains.’

I prefer the US prison sentences to the UK ones 👍

If you take a life by choice you should never come out.

I know he did wrong but we can all snap. Especially in jealous moments fuelled by alcohol.
The guy did not hide his crime and pleaded guilty.
It was a crime of passion and she was an absolute bitch to him.
He has now served nearly 25 years and would have been released by now in U.K.

Yes he has done wrong but some heartless comments on here.

The thread was intended for those who know Steve to remember him for one day, & that only

I don't apologise for the thread, but understand the comments.

Aside from his family, I'm probably his oldest friend.

I'm not sure why you would post this on here! I sincerely hope Steve regrets his actions and the taking of his girlfriends life. He's paying for his crime against his partner and as flawed as the American justice system is, he knew what the repercussions of his actions would be. But more to the point is I'm not sure that Steve himself would appreciate you bringing his criminal past to the fore once again, also his own family, his sisters, brothers who probably do not welcome this attention to their lives once more, especially in a small town like Thornton. Posting this kind of message only brings about hurt to people and an opportunity for some to 'cast the first stone'. Personally, I try not to judge people who have made catastrophic mistakes in life because 'their but for the grace of God' but maybe you should think about posting such messages again and send him a personal message instead.

As I keep mentioning, I didn't bring up the past etc, just wished a friend in a far off land happy birthday?

An action I stand by

It's the other posters who brought up the detail

He's just my mate? I didn't bring up his past, just reminded the many people on here who know him that it's his birthday?

No, you brought up the subject as you well know with your comment of "Those who know Steven & the circumstances will understand". Posting such a message in my opinion is only done for one reason which is to illicit a reaction from the forum. You can't possibly think that this was going to bring about a positive response from this board!

Happy birthday Steve.
I know the story and how he lost it.
You mentioned nothing of circumstances.

I am sure if a parent found out a neighbour was fiddling with his kids they would take circumstances into their own hands. If they beat him to a pulp would they expect to be behind bars for natural life.

I didn't want a response & those who responded, they were the ones trying to illicit a response.

& that's my last thought on the matter...
