Harry Johnston

Nice guy.
Had a Paper shop om Central Drive opposite Palatine Rd.
There were quite of lot of Pool players who had shops and stuff. Dennis Wann had the newsagents on Alex. Dr. St Annes. Can't remember who had the shop (Cigar/tobacco?) near to the Tivoli and which cricketer from the bodyline series had a newsagents on Whitegate Dr.

I'm sure there are loads more.

The great Harold Larwood was the bodyline bowler. He played league cricket for Blackpool in 1939 after leaving Notts the previous year.

I always remember my Dad (Lifelong Seasider, who attended all the ‘48 to ‘53 Cup Finals etc, etc) insisted on always buying his Gazette/Green from Harry Johnston’s shop, which would have been late 60’s, and was far from being our local newsagent (We were Norbreck Rd).

It was explained to me quite who he was & obviously, always ‘Mr Johnston’ to me - and always ‘Mr Johnston’ to my Dad, such were those days.
